The authors provide a robust framework for using rhetorical foundations to teach multimodality in technical communication, describing a pedagogical approach wherein students consider the rhetorical canons—invention, arrangement, style, delivery, and memory—when developing texts beyond print. Students learn to assess their own work, reflecting on how each canon contributed to the rhetorical effectiveness of their multimodal projects. College preparation programs are ubiquitous among secondary schools, ranging from bridge programs and summer camps to STEM competitions. High school students have many options in preparing for the academic pressures of higher education. However, an area often neglected in college preparation programs is the teaching of interpersonal customs and norms of university life. High school students, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds, may enter college with little to no understanding of the social and organizational expectations of being a college student. This study tests a college preparation approach that utilizes college-themed media as a way to educate students on college life that is unintimidating and enjoyable. Six high school students were presented with various forms of fictional college story plotlines, including a movie, two television shows, and a novel. Through observational data and semi-structured interviews, findings showed that the students identified some valuable personal lessons about what it means to be a college student after consuming the media. The findings suggest that incorporating college media into college preparation programs in high school may provide a more holistic college preparation experience by demystifying college stereotypes and relieving some of the pressures that high school students face about what is waiting for them in college.  相似文献

当代课堂改革可圈可点,在中国课改史上占有一席之地。在历史发展中,其贡献的三个重要课改经验是:教学模式去留应因地制宜,课改重点要准确定位,教学形态形成宜遵循内在生成的机理。当代课堂改革的理念贡献是启迪课改实践者去深刻反省课改的本质,据此寻求未来课改的新思路。可以预见,未来我国课堂改革的走势是:推进教、学、研的紧密融合,积极构建量身定制的教学样态,实施课改合力的聚力工程,藉此构筑一种低重心、可持续、能深入的课改新样态。  相似文献

Most college students experience stress and an increasing number also experience anxiety. This stress and anxiety has negative impacts on academic performance, as well as psychological well-being. In the K–12 setting, social-emotional learning (SEL) interventions have been consistently associated with improvements in outcomes related to stress and anxiety. However, little to no research has been conducted on effective ways for college instructors to help students in this area utilizing SEL. We developed a semester-long SEL program as an easy-to-implement and scientifically driven program to address this striking void. In statistics courses at two separate institutions (N?=?46), students completed weekly activities that fostered SEL-based skills and mindsets conducive to alleviating anxiety and appraising stressors in a productive manner. In our exploratory analyses, we empirically assessed the efficacy of our program utilizing a number of pre- and post- measures, including stress appraisal and various dimensions of anxiety. Significant improvements were noted in students’ ability to appraise stressors as positive challenges, rather than threats. Noteworthy improvements were also seen in students’ ability to recognize the resources available to help them cope with stressors, as well as decreases in math anxiety. These preliminary findings demonstrate that SEL programs implemented in a college setting have the potential to impact students’ psychological well-being and, in turn, their academics.  相似文献

High-need urban districts face many challenges in their efforts to overcome the large gaps in achievement demonstrated by their students. This study focuses on a strategy to overcome these challenges by better preparing future teachers for service in urban schools through quality field experiences at these sites. Teacher educators and urban school teachers who host teacher candidates during field experiences completed a questionnaire regarding their views about placements in high-need urban districts. A thematic analysis of their responses summarizes their beliefs about the most and least beneficial forms of field experiences, the most prevalent challenges in establishing quality field experiences, and the most successful strategies that facilitate the development of quality field experiences. The discussion compares the views of teacher educators with practicing teachers and recommends strategies to enhance field experiences in high-need, urban schools.  相似文献

Research exploring preservice postsecondary students’ experiences participating in an international field placement is a relatively new area of study in the domains of Early Childhood Education (ECE) and Early Childhood Leadership (ECL). While there is a growing body of literature offering merit to the profound transformations that can occur for students who engage in an international field experience, most notably in nursing and school-age teaching vocations, a significant research gap exists in this area of study within the early childhood field. This qualitative research study explores the international field experience of Canadian Early Childhood Education Diploma and Early Childhood Leadership Degree students who engaged in a 4-week placement to Liberia, Costa Rica in the winter of 2013. Applied thematic analysis was utilized to examine ECE and ECL self-reflective journals, interviews, and e-mail correspondences. Researcher field notes were additionally included in the data analysis. Personal and professional transformations proved to be a prevailing outcome of the Costa Rica international field placement. The merit of a solidified international placement pedagogical approach was an additional finding of this research study.  相似文献

为了探讨学业自我概念和学业成绩的纵向关系,以及该纵向关系在城市与流动儿童之间的差异,本研究使用问卷调查法对653名城市儿童和686名流动儿童进行连续五次追踪。交叉滞后结构方程模型分析发现:(1)虽然总体上学业自我概念和学业成绩的纵向关系支持了交互影响模型,但儿童类型具有显著调节作用,城市儿童支持了发展观,而流动儿童则支持了交互影响模型;(2)在七年级上学期到八年级下学期期间,流动儿童先前的学业成绩对后来的学业自我概念的影响显著大于城市儿童。未来教育实践中要注重群体差异,因材施教,努力培养流动儿童的积极学业心理品质。  相似文献
