Journal writing and mathematics instruction   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3  
In this article we discuss the educational value of engaging mathematics students in a specific form of writing to learn—the keeping of a journal throughout a mathematics course. As the result of an analysis which comprises both conceptual and empirical components, we suggest that journals have the potential to contribute to mathematics instruction in several ways. As the students write the journals, they can be encouraged to express and reflect upon their feelings, knowledge, processes and beliefs about mathematics, and consequently grow along each of these dimensions. By reading their students' journals, teachers may receive a wealth of information about their students and the course, and consequently improve their teaching. Finally, journals can create a new form of dialogue between the teacher and each student, thus allowing for more individualized instruction and a supportive classroom atmosphere.  相似文献

双语教学是世界一体化下我国高等学校教学改革的一个方向。它的出现有其深刻的时代背景,一方面,教育国际化趋势客观上推动了双语教学的发展:另一方面,中国加入世贸组织对双语教学也产生积极的影响。由于采用英文版教材,对学生和教师都提高了新的要求。学生必须具备一定的专业知识以及较高的英语水平,否则可以能听不懂教师的授课内容;而教师也需具备较高的英语水平以及课程开发能力。同时,对教学改革与教学管理都会带来一定程度的影响。  相似文献

In this study I have investigated how alternative ways of teaching mathematics influence and affect Early Childhood Education (ECE) students’ attitudes towards maths and how they understand their own subjectivities as more or less mathematical during a 10‐week alternative maths course. The investigated course adopts a feminist post‐structural approach based on critical pedagogy and deconstructive theory and includes an interdisciplinary approach to investigative mathematics. The data used include the memory/narrative writings and process‐writings of 75 female teacher‐education students, collected from three different cohorts, in which the students describe their learning processes throughout the maths course. The study shows that, in the main, the students became much more positively inclined to the subject of mathematics after the maths course and agreed that this course had changed their understanding of their own mathematical subjectivity, albeit in different and varying ways.  相似文献

The task-based approach has been gaining more and more popularity in recent years. Unlike the traditional language teaching approach, which puts much emphasis on the teaching and learning of language forms and skills, it regards the language process as one of learning through doing, emphasizes the central role of meaning in language use and insists that students should learn more effectively if they are fully engaged in a language task. However, due to the lack of an appropriate language environment and limited time for English study, Chinese students may not make as much progress as expected in the unconscious internalization of authentic language by focusing primarily on meaning. In fact the meaning of a language can not be separated from its form. The accurate expression of meaning depends on the proper use of language form. Therefore, in the application of the taskbased approach, we should not neglect the study of language form. This paper analyses the causes for Chinese students' low spoken English proficiency, describes the theoretical foundation and actual practice of the task-based approach, discusses its implications for teaching oral English and makes some proposals for its appropriate application.  相似文献

基于“首要教学原理”在“大学语文”中的应用研究,流行语渗入大学语文教学有必要性和可行性。流行语包含着丰富的当下文化因素,可以弥补大学语文课程语言学教学的缺位,是学生积累词汇量、提高母语语言素养的途径之一,恰当使用有利于营造课堂创意氛围。指导学生积累流行语,分析掌握流行语词的构成理据和文化信息等,有助于使用和改造流行语创新自己的语言。  相似文献

In this paper we focus on the issue of how academic staff experience the understanding of their subject matter and the relationship of this understanding to their experience of teaching. In recent years there has been a substantial amount of research into how academic staff conceive of teaching and learning, how they approach their teaching, and how their approaches to teaching relate to how their students approach their learning. In our present project this research is being extended by looking at the way 31 academics from four broad fields of study experience their understanding of their subject matter and how this relates to the way they experience their teaching. Using a phenomenographic approach we show that academics who experience their subject matter in atomistic and less integrated ways experience their teaching in more information transmission and teacher-focused ways, while those with a more integrated and holistic experience of understanding their subject experience their teaching in more conceptual change and student-focused ways.in final form: 9 September 2004  相似文献

The paper reports a study for determining a suitable process for converting traditional surface science courses into case‐based learning ones in two universities in Hong Kong. In this preparative study, a set of baseline data was collected on the current level of students’ conceptual understanding and also students’ perceptions about the traditional courses. The student data (from 38 students) came from examination results, the Study Process Questionnaire, a course‐end survey and a focus group meeting; teachers also kept reflective journals. This set of baseline data revealed factors that both support and inhibit case‐based learning. On the one hand, students demonstrate a motivation to be able to solve practical problems in this field; on the other hand, they show an unwillingness to take up a personal responsibility for learning. This finding strengthens our resolve to take into account students’ expectations and beliefs in the implementation of case‐based teaching and learning.  相似文献

近年来,多种教学方法层出不穷,如:合作学习、对分课堂、发生教学法、混合式教学、参与式教学等,这些不同的教学法有不同的理论依据和侧重点。我们在多年教学实践中基于各方法的优势,对团队承担的《普通昆虫学》课程进行了改革和重新设计:将班级学生分为4—5人学习战队,形成合作学习共同体,每次课程分为5个步骤:讨论互助、对战、总结、讲授和内化吸收。该课程设计基于对分课堂的“课堂时间对分”和“讲授与讨论时间错开,学生自主学习内化吸收”,同时利用了合作学习的“生生互动,形成团队,相互帮助”,混合式教学的“对在线数字媒体的利用”,发生教学法的“依照知识的产生和发展进行讲解”,参与式教学的“积极参与”。新的教学设计核心理念是结合在线教育、讲授式课堂和讨论式课堂的优势,教师作为引导者,同一学习战队成员间形成利益捆绑体,学生主观能动性得到调动,积极参与教学活动,课后一周时间学生内化吸收,对抗遗忘。  相似文献
