The problem of presenting advanced project work in distance teaching is discussed and criteria established for its success. An evaluation of empirical research projects involved in an advanced course on research methods in education and social science is described and some principles put forward for sound project design in distance teaching. Finally, three models suggesting different combinations of distance teaching and conventional institution-based teaching are proposed which incorporate advanced project work. It is suggested that conventional teaching institutions working in isolation can all benefit from a distance teaching element in their programmes.  相似文献

This case study focuses on the relationship between evaluation and needs assessment and how both processes were integrated in one project. The project involved evaluating a 10‐year‐old ergonomics course. The course was one component of a broader organizational change initiative, aimed to reduce or eliminate on‐the‐job injuries. The success of the change initiative depended on applying knowledge from the course as well as other workplace variables, such as management commitment, plant communications, and the relationship between management and union labor. Robert Stake's (1967) countenance framework was modified to consider both instructional and performance issues in the research design. Data collection included observing the course, conducting focus groups with past course attendees who were ergonomic committee members, interviewing ergonomic teams in manufacturing plants, and reviewing course materials and other related documents. The findings illustrate the overlap between the needs assessment and evaluation processes. The discussion addresses how these labels can limit perception of the system of interest, the importance of adapting the research design to take advantage of naturally occurring organizational events, the value of integrating both needs assessment and evaluation perspectives, and the importance of differentiating evaluation and needs assessment recommendations.  相似文献

This article offers a case study of the evaluation of a redesigned and redeveloped laboratory-based cell biology course. The course was a compulsory element of the biology program, but the laboratory had become outdated and was inadequately equipped. With the support of a faculty-based teaching improvement project, the teaching team redesigned the course and re-equipped the laboratory, using a more learner-centered, constructivist approach. The focus of the article is on the project-supported evaluation of the redesign rather than the redesign per se. The evaluation involved aspects well beyond standard course assessments, including the gathering of self-reported data from the students concerning both the laboratory component and the technical skills associated with the course. The comparison of pre- and postdata gave valuable information to the teaching team on course design issues and skill acquisition. It is argued that the evaluation process was an effective use of the scarce resources of the teaching improvement project.  相似文献

In 1996, USC switched its core two-semester software engineering course from a hypothetical-project, homework-and-exam course based on the Bloom taxonomy of educational objectives (knowledge, comprehension, application, analysis, synthesis, and evaluation). The revised course is a real-client team-project course based on the CRESST model of learning objectives (content understanding, problem solving, collaboration, communication, and self-regulation). We used the CRESST cognitive demands analysis to determine the necessary student skills required for software risk management and the other major project activities, and have been refining the approach over the last 5 years of experience, including revised versions for one-semester undergraduate and graduate project course at Columbia. This paper summarizes our experiences in evolving the risk management aspects of the project course. These have helped us mature more general techniques such as risk-driven specifications, domain-specific simplifier and complicator lists, and the schedule as an independent variable (SAIV) process model. The largely positive results in terms of review of pass / fail rates, client evaluations, product adoption rates, and hiring manager feedback are summarized as well.  相似文献

程序设计实践课程是高校计算机学科部分相关专业的必修课程之一,该课程对于高校学生的逻辑思维能力和动手实践操作能力要求较高。然而,在高校程序设计实践课程中学生对待课程的"畏难"心理、学校对于程序设计实践的重视度不够、高校教师考核方式的不科学等都是阻碍高校学生编程能力提高的障碍。结合时代发展及我国教育信息化规划,本文提出以项目教学为驱动的程序设计实践课程的"翻转课堂"+SPOC教学模式。根据项目驱动教学特点,基于"翻转课堂"+SPOC的网络在线教学平台,笔者结合具体Java教学实例从课前准备、课中教学和课后评价三个方面对程序设计实践课程展开了教学研究,为高校计算机程序设计实践课程提供一定的参考。  相似文献

在沟通类课程的教学过程中,由于该课程本身存在实践及应用性强的特点,对教学实施及效果评价造成了一定的困难。通过在教学设计、实施、评价环节引入“话剧项目教学法”,使学习不简单局限于识记,而是在对课程内容解构后,重新编排,根据不同的沟通理论技巧,选择不同的话剧项目节段,将理论学习融入话剧项目。再通过话剧形式让学生将所学理论展示出来,教师与其他学生作为话剧观众,构成“沟通观察共同体”,对不同学生在沟通中存在的问题提出改进意见,从而帮助学生将理论学习融入应用,并进行教学效果测评。  相似文献

针对电气工程制图课程教学中存在的问题,以电气工程应用岗位的典型工作任务为依据,按照项目化教学要求对课程教学内容进行重新选择与序化,实施项目化教学、过程评价和结果评价相结合的课程改革。通过教学实践表明,实施项目化教学改革的班级平均成绩要比采用传统教学法的班级的平均成绩提高十几分.学生对电气工程制图课程的重要性认识、学习兴趣、教学效果等都有了较大的提高。  相似文献

Using as a case study a major project he directed which evaluated student services in Australian higher education, the author discusses the approach and the methodology adopted. Some difficulties and inadequacies are identified and explained, and the criticisms made by some Victims' of the evaluation are presented. Finally, the paper discusses some issues emerging from the experience of this project in such areas as the politics and climate of evaluation, consultation with and education of the evaluated, the credibility of evaluators, self‐evaluation and the use of external evaluators; and points to some lessons which might be learned.  相似文献

This article examines the contribution of older adults as co-researchers to the evaluation of a gerontological social work course. The evaluation was conducted at an Israeli college as part of a collaborative project with a United Kingdom university. Here, we follow the older adults who are service users through their transition to the role of co-researchers and reflect on their experiences in the process. Insights gained by the different stakeholders from the co-researching experience are discussed, and the growing interest in service-user contributions to social work education in various fields such as aging and disabilities is recognized.  相似文献
