Li Boqian： Ambitious but Down-to-earth in Archaeology

Like many other eminent professors of Peking University, Li Boqian looks humble and kind, bearing the precise and earnest nature as a scholar. He is plainly dressed and modestly behaved, but once on the rostrum, he is so full of passion that you can hardly believe he is already 75 years old. On the occasion of the 90th anniversary of the ArchaeoLogy Department of Peking University, Li received the interview by PKU News.     

Dare to Trust First China-Germany Leadors Forum Held in Beijing

＂Dare to Trust--the First China-Germany Leaders forum＂, co-organized by the Ministry of Culture of China, the German Bertelsmann Foundation and the German Studies Center of PKU, recently opened at Peking University. Chinese Minister of Culture Cai Wu, vice president of the German Bertelsmann Foundation Liz Mohn, and Party Secretary of Peking University Zhu Shanlu addressed the opening ceremony.Thirty leading figures in politics, economy, culture, sports, education and academic circles from both countries attended the forum, including German ambassador to China Michael Clauss, former Chinese ambassador to Germany Ma Canrong, Chinese writer Li Er, and former German Minister of Justice Gmelin.     

Rong Tie and His Paintings

Rong Tie was educated in the Central Academy of Fine Arts, majoring in calligraphy, in 1996, he began his postgraduate study in calligraphy at Capital Normal University. He studied in the “elite class” at China Institution of Arts Studies in 2002 and became a visiting scholar at Peking University in 2003. His titles include: National First-Class Artist, academician of the China Artists Association, deputy secretarygeneral of the Traveling and Friendship Center of the China Artist Association,

Embroidery Innovation Draws Inspirations from Artists and Scientists

In 2004 a forum on the innovation of Suzhou-style embroidery was held in the city of Suzhou, attracting some 50 celebrated artists, scientists and scholars from home and abroad. Nobel Laureate and famous physicist Tsung-Dao Lee delivered an important presentation as the forum＇s honorary president, noting that ＂Culture will not sustain without innovation. Nanjing Fascinated by Arabic Charms

On June 27, 2006, the Arabic Arts Festival （Nanjing leg）, jointly sponsored by the Ministry of Culture of China, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China, Jiangsu Provincial Culture Department and Nanjing Municipal Government, was launched in Nanjing Culture and Arts Center. The Arabic Arts Festival, the first of its kind jointly presented by 22 Arab nations in China, was a significant cultural event following the establishment of China-Arab Cooperation Forum in 2004. Major activities of the festival were presented in Beijing and as the only leg besides Beijing, Nanjing host several large-scale performances of Arabic singing and dancing arts.     

Ceramic Artist Gao Feng：In Pursuit of Glory of Life

In the beginning of his career, Gao Feng served as an apprentice in a ceramic workshop, doing errands for his masters. With several months of practicing and training, he acquainted himself with every process of ceramic making and developed interest in this profession dealing with clay and fire, One year later, he was transferred to the ceramic studio of the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing. At that time, except Jingdezhen and a few other ceramic sites in frontier areas, the technique of ceramic throwing had been generally replaced by machine molding and infilling.

CAO NIAN＇S PAINTING

Cao Nian graduated from the Department of Painting, Sichuan Academy of Fine Arts in 1976 and received quidance from art educators Wei Chuanyi, Huang Yuan and Zhang Shenxian, In 1984 he graduated with BA degree from the Department of Chinese Language and Literature, Southwest Normal University. In 1994 he completed an advanced graduate program on art theories from China Arts Academy.

Beauty of Ice and Snow on Canvas

Late September 2006, at the invitation of the Cultural Ministry of Belarus, a four-person delegation from northeast China＇s Heilongjiang Province visited Minsk, capital city of Belarus, to present China Ice and Snow Painting Exhibition at Belarus National Museum of History and Culture as part of China Culture Day co- sponsored by the cultural ministries of the two countries. The exhibition displayed 54 painting masterpieces by Yu Zhixue, founder of ice and snow painting, and his students. All the maior media organizations in Belarus reported the exhibition and Belarus Culture Daily gave an exclusive interview of Yu Zhixue. The Deputy Cultural Minister of Belarus was so impressed by the painting styles of Yu that he shook Yu＇s hands excitingly and highly praised Yu＇s works. A renowned Belarus painter said that ＂Trees with Crystal-White ice＂, donated by Yu to Belarus National Museum of History and Culture, would become an everlasting memory of the city of Minsk.     

Li Xiaojie：A Popular Flute Performer in the Army

Li Xiaojie is a young Chinese flute performer and now serves as the Chinese flute solo performer in the Song and Dance ! Ensemble of the General Political Department of People＇s Liberation Army. She was born in Inner Mongolia and had followed her father Li Zhen, a famous Chinese flute performer to learn flute performance since her childhood. In 1983, she was admitted to the middle school affiliated to China Conservatory of Music and received an all-round training of sldlls and styles of northern schools of Chinese flute from Prof. Ma Baoshan. In 1986. Li and her schoolmate Zeng Zhaobin performed a flute duet at the Fourth North China Music Festival, which was known as the first ever bamboo flute performance by female performers in China and widely recognized by the professional circle.     

Symphony Concert Held at Snow Mountain

On August 15, 2010, a symphony concert, entitled “Holy Snow Mountain： Dedicated to the Greatest Mountain of East”, was held at the foot of Peak Yuzhu of the Kunlun Mountain Range in Ge＇ermu, Qinghai Province. John Leighton Stuart：the Closest Stranger

John Leighton Stuart was born in Hangzhou in June,1876.His parents were among the earliest American missionaries to China.He lived with his parents in Hangzhou.Although an American by nationality,Stuart considered himself"a Chinese more than an American".At the age of 11,he was sent to school in Virginia,where he was teased by classmates for his ignorance of the language.During his college years,influenced by the Student Volunteer Movement for Foreign Missions,he made his decision for missionary service.In 1904,after his marriage,he returned to Hangzhou with his wife as a missionary.     

Ethnic Artist Hazi Aimaite Shares Homeland with the World

In October 2002, at the age of 67, Hazi Aimaite retired from the position as chairman of the Literature Association of Xinjiang. He pledged to devote his time and energy to his painting, so that more people in the world could better understand the scenery and culture of the autonomous region, and also see for themselves how fine art is flowering among the Uygur people of China's far west.
