It is when people celebrate the coming of summer with lots of different customs that are expressions of joy and hope after a long winter.

Politeness Principle and the Choice of Address Forms in Intercultural Communication

This paper makes a tentative study of the politeness strategies stressed in the choice of address forms in Chinese,American and Japanese culture under the guidance of Politeness Principle by Brown and Levinson.Through a comprehensive analysis,It is concluded that the major function of English address forms is to indicate solidarity and realize positive politeness,In contrast,both Chinese and Japanese address forms emphasize deference and help achieve negative politeness;It is the author’s hope that a better understanding of these addressing rules in different cultures will benefit effective use of these languages and help avoid miscommunication in intercultural communication.

An Analysis of the Unreliable Narrator in The Tell-Tale Heart

The Tell-Tale Heart is a short story by Edgar Allan Poe. The story is first-person narrative of a narrator who murdered an old man with a clouded eye. This paper aims at identifying the speaker"I"as an unreliable narrator through analyzing the motivation, process and confession of the crime. It is found out that the narrator symbolizes man of evil, while, the old man’s vulture eye symbolizes virtue. It’s a story about the conflict between evil and virtue.     

Study of Translation in Premier Wen Jiabao' s Speeches in Press Conferences

It is considerably well known that the Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao is a learned and refined man and use a lot quotes of ancient Chinese prose in his speech to enrich the meaning of his words.The same situation can also be applied to his speech in external news conferences during which words of wisdom sparkles.It is believed that those quotes of Premier Wen and his interpreter's concise translation contributes a lot to convey national Chinese culture as well as set up a significant international image of China,which plays a considerable part in enhancing the soft power of China.Since China has enjoyed a rapid and comprehensive development of economy and technology in recent decades and has had an increasing impact upon international affairs,the issue concerning setting a powerful and reasonable self image is getting more and more important \ urgent.To improve a country's soft power is certainly an aspect of national image which will lead China towards a powerful country that is helpful for the peace and development of the whole world.     

Dynamic Behavior of a New Hydraulic Steel Gate

A new style of hydraulic steel gate based on the principle of bionics is proposed in this paper. It has a fish-like shape and consists of right arches, invert arches, connection components and a face plate. It would be first applied in the project of Caoe River Sluice, used as both tidal barrage and flood gate. Compared with conventional hydraulic steel gate of beam grids, this new style of hydraulic steel gate can save up to 30%-50% of steel consumption. The dynamic behavior of the new gate under the impact load of tidal bore is investigated. The impact load of tidal bore is considered by a load spectrum obtained by field observation over a long period of time. Then a numerical analysis of the gate under the load spectrum is carried out by finite element method. The fluid-structure interaction is considered in the analysis. And a comparison between the response of the gate under the impact load and the response of the gate under the corresponding static load is conducted and indicates that the gate has a dynamic magnification factor of 1.2.

Stabilization of Delayed Networks with Different Nodes

In this paper,the control of complex delayed networks with different nodes is proposed.Firstly,the stabilization of coupled networks with time delay is investigated.By constructing a Lyapunov function,a linear feedback controller design procedure for the networks is converted to the problem of solving a set of linear matrix inequalities.Then the results are extended to networks with both delayed dynamical nodes and delayed couplings.It is shown that the stabilization of complex networks is determined by the dynamics of each uncoupled node,coupling matrix and feedback gain matrix of networks.Two examples are simulated.In the first example,a network with 10 nodes consisting of Lorenz systems and systems proposed by Zhang in 2009 is given.It is found that the network states are divergent without control,and convergent under designed linear feedback controllers.In the second example,a larger network with 100 nodes consisting of delayed Chen systems and delayed Lorenz systems is given.The proposed method is also effective for large scale networks.
