Do you like Beijing Opera? Beijing Opera-Peking Opera has existed for over 200 years. It is widely regarded as the highest expression of the Chinese culture. It is known as one of the three main theatrical systems in the world. Artistically, Beijing Opera is perhaps the most refined form of opera in the world. It has deeply influenced the hearts of the Chinese people. Although it is called Beijing Opera, its origins are not in Beijing but in the Chinese provinces of Anhui and Hubei. Beijing Opera got its two main melodies, Xi_Pi and Er_Huang, from Anhui and Hubei operas. It then absorbed music and arias from other operas and musical arts in China.

Video segmentation using Maximum Entropy Model

Detecting objects of interest from a video sequence is a fundamental and critical task in automated visual surveillance. Most current approaches only focus on discriminating moving objects by background subtraction whether or not the objects of interest can be moving or stationary. In this paper, we propose layers segmentation to detect both moving and stationary target objects from surveillance video. We extend the Maximum Entropy （ME） statistical model to segment layers with features, which are collected by constructing a codebook with a set ofcodewords for each pixel. We also indicate how the training models are used for the discrimination of target objects in surveillance video. Our experimental results are presented in terms of the success rate and the segmenting precision.

Research and industrial application of a novel compound permanent magnet synchronous machine

We propose a novel kind of compound permanent magnet synchronous machine （CPMSM）, which is applicable in low-speed and high-torque situations. We first explain the structure of the CPMSM. Based on theoretically deducing the calculation formulae of the CPMSM electromagnetic parameters, we analyze the operating characteristics of the CPMSM, and obtain the power-angle curves and working curves. The no-load magnetic field distribution and the cogging torque are analyzed by applying the finite element method of three-dimensional （3D） magnetic fields, to determine the no-load leakage coefficient and the waveform of the cogging torque. Furthermore, the optimal parameters of the permanent magnet for reducing the cogging torque are determined. An important application target of the CPMSM is in direct-drive pumping units. We have installed and tested a directdrive pumping unit in an existing oil well. Test results show that the power consUmption of the direct-drive pumping unit driven by CPMSM is 61.1% of that of the beam-pumping unit, and that the floor space and weight are only 50% of those of a beam-pumping unit. The noise output does not exceed 58 dB in a range of 1 m around the machine when the machine is 1.5 m from the ground.     

Location optimization for the tuned mass damper system on a long-span floor

The L4 roof of Beijing Olympic International Conference Center is a long-span floor with a tuned mass damper system. The locations of dampers in the layout are not optimal theoretically. This paper is about the location optimization of the 74 sets of dampers on the floor. The main content includes the establishment of a 2D dot-matrix model for the structure, the optimal location combination searched by a genetic algorithm, and the optimal results for five working conditions by calculating the total weight.
