Investigating university students’ adoption of video lessons

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study was to examine the undergraduate students’ adoption of video lessons. The data were collected from 313 undergraduate students from Education, Health Sciences, and Letters Faculties within a large university in Turkey using a questionnaire with six constructs: ease of use, usefulness, enjoyment, intention, computer self-efficacy and relative advantage. The Technology Acceptance Model and Diffusion of Innovation Theory were used as the research framework for the study, and the data were analysed by Structural Equation Modeling. The results showed that ease of use and computer self-efficacy had a significant influence on usefulness of video lessons. Computer self-efficacy had a significant influence on ease of use regarding video lessons and usefulness of a video lesson had a significant influence on relative advantage. In addition, relative advantage and enjoyment had a significant effect on student intention to use a video lesson. Interestingly, it was found that perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness, and computer self-efficacy had no effect on the intention to use video lessons. Consequently, five constructs account for 38% of the variance intention to use video lessons. The research model was found to have a good fit.     

强化应用意识 激发学习兴趣——《高等代数》教学札记

《高等代数》是师范数学专业的基础课程,而师专生往往不能充分认识到这一点,总以为学好它对今后的教学无多大用处,缺乏学习主动性,本文初步探导了学习高代与今后教学的联系,因而强调在教学中应加强学生的应用意识教育,充分调动他们的学习积极性。

Student and Instructor Perspectives of ITV Instruction

ABSTRACT

This mixed-methods grounded theory study examined student and faculty perceptions of engagement in Interactive Television (ITV) courses. Survey participants from two regional higher learning institutions consisted of students (n = 442) and faculty (n = 99) with previous ITV experience. Data were analyzed using principal factor analysis, Independent T-test, and ANOVA. Qualitative data consisted of focus groups and student (n = 22) and faculty (n = 10) personal interviews. Factor analysis of survey data identified three engagement themes: dialogic, autonomous, and interpersonal. Significant differences were noted between student and faculty perceptions on all three factors. Faculty rated levels of dialogic and autonomous interaction lower than students, while students reported lower levels of interpersonal interaction. Qualitative coding revealed that students attribute lower dialogic and autonomous interactions to reduced interpersonal interactions. What initially emerged as a simple three-factor model of student engagement in quantitative analysis, became a model of three factors driven by one prominent factor – interpersonal interaction.     

The impact of video exposure on students entering school psychology

School psychology is experiencing a shortages crisis. Within this two‐part study, the Social Cognitive Career Theory was used to examine the impact of video interventions on students' choice and application to school psychology programs. A sub‐sample of participants were followed across 4 years. Findings suggest that, when measured immediately before and after, a short video intervention had a significant impact on participants' perceived knowledge and intentions to apply to a school psychology training program. However, when measured across several years, the video was not found to have a significant impact on actual application to a school psychology training program. Nevertheless, exposure to school psychology from multiple sources was still found to be the best predictor of actually applying to a school psychology program. Study results highlight the importance of concerted efforts throughout the career development pipeline to expose students to the profession of school psychology.

教学中心理活动起到很大作用,本文根据心理学和声乐学习的联系,浅析良好的歌唱心理在声乐学习中的重要性,在教学过程中,调整学生学习情绪和培养学生良好的歌唱心理和控制能力,能激发学生对声乐学习的兴趣,使学生自觉地保持高涨的情绪来学习声乐知识,从而达到理想的教学效果。
