正2016年9月,二十国集团领导人将相聚在杭州这座美丽的东方名城。为让各国宾客领略杭州历史文化的独特韵味,展示中国传统艺术的悠远魅力,"天下第一名社"西泠印社分别于6月和8月在北京和杭州举办系列活动。百余年岁月来,西泠印社跨越国别、地域,一直肩负着守护和传承传统文化艺术的历史使命,这是几代印人共同的信念。"在今天社会文化急速转型的背景下,如何把西泠印社这份‘坚守’和‘传承’告诉大众,是我们这一代社员

试论社会、族群与文化

社会一词 ,原不见于中文。日本学者将中国传统的“会”结“社” ,合为一词 ,表达英文ｓｏｃｉｅｔｙ及德文 ｇｅｓｅｌｌｓｃｈａｆｔ的定义。中文由日文借回“社会” ,至今约定俗成 ,已将英文中的“集会”(ａｓｓｏｃｉａｔｉｏｎ)的意义隐去 ,只剩了相当于日文“共同体”的意义。而且 ,此词指涉的人群 ,大致有共同的传统 ,包括信仰、价值观等理念部分 ,艺术、音乐等感性部分 ,及饮食起居等实质的生活部分。于是大致言之 ,社会与文化 ,实为一体的表里两面。然而 ,本文后面仍将讨论 ,二者涵盖的范围边界 ,又并不完全相同。“社会”是一个共…

儒家的发生与中国社会的非宗教化

儒家是中国传统文化发展的必然产物。从巫文化的神治逐渐发展到人治 ,再到礼治的升华 ,为儒家的产生奠定了基础。巫文化与礼治文化传播的不平衡性 ,决定了儒家只能发生于鲁国。鲁国浓厚的礼治传统 ,造就了道德型文化 ,对孔子创立儒家学说产生了重要影响。儒家的发生 ,使中国走向了礼治化、世俗化社会 ,避免了中国文化、中国社会的宗教化。

正4月8日,"西泠印社创社四君子暨历任社长书画篆刻作品展"在香港中央图书馆开幕。香港特别行政区候任行政长官林郑月娥,中央政府驻港联络办副主任杨健,浙江省委常委、宣传部长葛慧君等出席开幕式,100周岁的西泠印社现任社长、学界泰斗饶宗颐先生现场为"西泠学堂"题字揭牌。这是西泠印社文物首次在香港举行大型展出,共由"印学重镇志同结社——创社四君子""西泠巨擘一代宗

Digital media shape intercultural communication by (1) producing new public fora capable of (2) hosting rich, multimodal “spaces” of contact on (3) a scale of many-to-many communication that (4) challenges traditional modes of representation.

Maintaining Discipline in the Kaiser Wilhelm Society during the National Socialist Regime

In responding to incidents of internal ‘indiscipline’, the Kaiser Wilhelm Society many times asserted its authority, sometimes in cooperation with agencies of the Nazi regime. Following the Second World War, however, the KWS represented itself as having been intrinsically anti-Nazi. This essay describes the assumptions inherent in this view, and points to its wider implications for post-war German science.     

Expulsion, compensation, and the legacy of the Kaiser Wilhelm Society

This article examines the treatment accorded by the Max Planck Society to scientists who were dismissed from the Kaiser Wilhelm Society during the years of National Socialism, 1933–1945. Legal claims for compensation reveal a lack of understanding between the majority of German scientists and their persecuted colleagues after 1945. In respect to the Max Planck Society, they also reveal a lack of willingness to accept moral responsibility.     

Regimes of Knowledge Production in Society: Towards a More Political and Social Reading

The `co-productions' of science and society have undergone dramatic changes in recent decades. However, contrasts between `Mode 1' and `Mode 2' are not compelling inhistorical terms. This essay will argue that, in fact, they offer too naturalistic and a-political a picture.     

Humanities–Industry Partnerships and the ‘Knowledge Society’: The Australian Experience

National research policies are today driven by the concept of the ‘knowledge society’, in which development is deemed to follow the application of new ideas. Australia, like other countries, has encouraged partnerships between the universities and industry. This essay examines how Australian scholars in the humanities have responded to the Australian Research Council’s Linkage Projects. Their experience underlines the importance of viewing collaboration as social practice, and the need to find a satisfactory synthesis between academic and industry perspectives.
