Shanghai Museum

Shanghai Museum was founded in 1952 and originally housed in the former horseracing club in Nanjing West Road. In 1996, the museum moved into the current site in People＇s Square in the heart of the city and reopened to public. The unique architectural form of the new building, featuring a round top and a square foundation and symbolizing the traditional Chinese philosophical concept that the square earth is under the round sky, is an outstanding combination of tradition and modernity and presents an extraordinary visual effect.

The Oriental Ceramic Society, an international organization dedicated to the study of Asian ceramics and other artworks, recently awarded Beijing＇s Palace Museum researcher Geng Baochang with the l lth Hills Gold Medal. Waxworks of China National Museum

The National Waxworks Museum of China, as part of China National Museum, showcases 126 life like wax figures of celebrity from China and the rest of the world which feature exquisite craftsmanship, vivid portraits and unique scenes. Since its opening in 2004, the waxworks on display have attracted numerous visitors and media coverage. A press article used the caption ＂On the opening day, the real guardian even frightened an old woman＂ to describe how lifelike these waxworks are.

Shexiang Museum on Yi Culture

Shexiang Tomb ＆ Museum of Yi Ethnic Group, or briefly called “Shexiang Museum” is an important museum on folk and ethnic culture of Yi people in Guizhou Province.Shexiang （1361-1396） was a celebrated woman chieftain of Yi ethnic group. During her rule, she organized the construction of nine post houses and ten bridges within her territory, making outstanding contribution to consolidating boundaries of southwest China, safeguarding national unification and ethnic unity and developing local economy and culture. After she died, she was conferred the title of “Shunde Lady” by the court of the Ming Empire.     

Chinese Art in the Cernuschi Museum

After the three and half years of facelift, the Cemuschi Museum ,was finally reopened one year ago.Guided by Mr. Gilles Beguin, director of the museum, we visited the museum which has the second largest collection of Asian art in France, only next to Museum Guimet.[第一段]

When we think about the city Tianjin, the ideas immediately striking our minds are commonly ＂Go Believe＂ restaurant,cross-talking art and the European style buildings which lie along the city streets. Tianjin, once as the semi-colonial dominion of France, USA, Germany, Italy, Japan and Russia, is now becoming a ＂World City Museum＂. There then comes one guy, Zhang Lianzhi, who was a local citizen spending 7 years building up a splendid porcelain house showing off non-surpassing emittance among all alien constructions in the downtown area of Tianjin.

Beijing Palace Museum not only boasts a collection of more than 1.5 million piecessets of cultural relics, but also preserves many traditional Chinese techniques used for conserving and restoring cultural relics. Such techniques include framing ancient paintings and calligraphy, restoring and replicating bronze works, restoring ancient clocks, replicating ancient paintings and calligraphy, sculpting and enchasing of gems and jades, restoring ancient lacquer wares and wooden furniture, etc. With centuries of history, these techniques were passed down from genera- tion to generation. After continuous improvement and development, each traditional technique has formed a complete process. Laboratories for analytical testing and scientific research were also set up in the museum to provide the best methods for restoration and conservation so that the longevity of cultural relics can be guaranteed. In recent years, restoration experts have de- veloped and improved the flle of restoration. This provides a solid and detailed basis for future＇s research, conservation and restoration of cultural relics.

Exhibition on Chinese Archaeology Held in Capital Museum

The Exhibition on Chinese Archaeology, co-organized by the Institute of Archaeology under the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and the Capital Museum, was recently held in the Capital Museum. In celebration of the 60th anniversary of the Institute of Archaeology, this exhibition exhibits major achievements that hundreds of Chinese archaeologists have scored over decades. It is also the largest archaeologica exhibition ever held in China.
