The widespread use of English is viewed as a unique phenomenon of our times. Today, English, as an international language and with different varieties around the world, is also termed"World Englishes". As a result, the models of English teaching in different countries are diversified.

Concerning this subject, the paper elaborates the following seven aspects: the concept and features of English as an international language, emergence of new varieties of Englishes, emergence of new varieties of Englishes, the impact of economic globalization on the scope of the English language, the controversy of English standardization and localization, English localization in China and the revelation of English globalization to English teaching.

英语的传播与发展,导致了各种英语变体的形成,“世界英语”的发展,则导致了“标准英语”与英语变体的区分以及内圈英语、外圈英语、扩展圈英语等概念的提出。从世界英语的发展来看,英语教学必须对各种英语变体都加以重视,这就要求我国高校的英语教学既要在输出方面重视“标准英语”,又要在输入方面重视对各种英语变体的接触。     

Towards a More Appropriate University English Curriculum in China in the Context of English as an International Language

The rapid and wide spread of English has given rise to its lingua franca status, which in turn, changes the nature of English and English teaching at the tertiary level. This paper, based on a survey, discusses some of the problems with the current English curriculum used in Chinese universities and proceeds to offer some suggestions for a more appropriate university English curriculum in China in the context of English as an international language.

First I will present the theoretical background on the global spread of English,then comes its general implications to Chinese EFL teaching, including the discussion of what type of English should be taught. 反思本族语言范式与英语教学

随着全球一体化和英语成为世界语（EIL）或通用语（ELF）新形势的到来,学界认为对英语的态度、实证研究的重心、以及英语教学实践都应有新的变革。针对这些新主张,中国英语教育应从教师聘任制度、教师培训制度以及英语教学大纲等三方面进行改革;力求打破非本族英语教师面临的聘任歧视,提升教师对自己角色变化的认知,培养教师对多种文化的敏感度,增强教师对亚种类英语的了解,并从教学目标、教学内容、教学方法、考核制度等方面对教学大纲进行完善。
