ICEM General Assembly And Conference 1979

The ICEM General Assembly and Conference were held in Geneva from 23 September to 6 October 1979. The General Assembly, which preceded the Conference, was under the presidency of Ronnie Macluskie. During the Assembly ICEM members drew up new working plans for the sub-committees in charge of equipment, innovation and development and production and exchange. Members were able to attend the first showing of the film ‘Man and Energy’ which has been financed by a number of member countries and which will soon be available for use in education. At the conclusion of the General Assembly Hans Greetfeld was unanimously elected President.

With respect to films, OFRATEME cooperates with FWU without any true coproduction. For example so far as 16mm films are concerned, the films produced all come within the scope of the free-exchange agreement made either at Council of Europe level or ICEM level. For example for 8mm films, all the producting countries, including France and West Germany, wish to retain ownership of their films, and negotiate the transfer of utilisation rights within the framework of the distribution system.     

Conclusions Drawn from the ICEM Conference

It is very difficult to sum up a conference of this kind. Even if the focus was centred upon ‘audiovisual media’ and ‘language teaching’, a great many considerations have to be taken into account. We have a large number of different media and their possible combinations. Language teaching comprises both foreign language teaching for nationals and the teaching of a mother tongue to immigrants. Through its members ICEM represents many different countries, and we were interested in receiving various points of view from the respective cultures.     

21st Annual General Meeting of ICEM

The 21st Annual Meeting of the International Council for Educational Media was held in Montreal, Canada from 6 to 11 October 1971. The organisation of the Annual Meeting and World Conference was in the hands of the Canadian full member of ICEM representing the National Film Board of Canada.

General Review of Introduction to Government and Binding Theory

The book Introduction to Government and Binding Theory written by Liliane Haegeman has made a systematic introduction to the primary achievements of syntactic research during several decades before 1990s.GB Theory include seven important sub-theories:1) Theta Theory,2) X-bar Theory,3) Case Theory,4) Binding Theory,5) Control Theory,6) Government Theory and 7) Bounding Theory,which are applied together with some important principles to analyzing and illustrating syntactic structures.In doing that,sometimes only one of the sub-theories is enough and sometimes several sub-theories should be needed together.Although the theories proposed in this book are sometimes too limit and mechanical to make a full analyze and illustration about some syntactic phenomena,the book is still a dramatically useful introductory instrument which is helpful for the beginners to have fundamental understanding of basic syntactic theories and can lay good foundations for further study and research on syntactics.
