Taking advantage of professional development opportunities is imperative for new academic librarians. Even if not a position requirement, continuing education and professional involvement have the potential to inspire and improve job performance. While online resources should not replace traditional professional development experiences such as conferences, they can certainly provide additional ways to develop skills and expertise. Connecting with other librarians electronically through listservs, virtual conferences, and other online opportunities can make such involvement more accessible for new professionals.  相似文献

A progenitor article for this work can be found in Public Library Quarterly 27, no. 4. This study is the first to report on the types of contents in children's web pages and the characteristics of Web-OPACs for children in public library websites in Japan. This study reveals that children's web pages, in general, place more emphasis on providing guidance on library services and on the use of information resources for reference services, rather than on helping children with regular learning or providing research assistance to adults on children's services. In 2013, the librarians at a small academic health sciences library reevaluated their mission, vision, and strategic plan to expand their roles. The school was transitioning to a new pedagogical culture and a new building designed to emphasize interprofessional education and active learning methodologies. Subsequent efforts to implement the new strategic plan resulted in the librarians joining curriculum committees and other institutional initiatives, such as an Active Learning Task Force, and participating in faculty development workshops. This participation has increased visibility and led to new roles and opportunities for librarians.  相似文献

Summary

The structure of ready reference Web sites in American public and academic libraries reflects answers to consistently encountered design questions. A survey of 100 Web sites shows widespread agreement about naming these resources, using subject categories, and relying on free unlicensed Web sources for content. Opinions are divided about the optimum number of listed sources and the best ways to organize hot links. Guides and explanations rarely are provided for users. Librarians have not built these sites around commercial products, although advanced search features could make the purchase of ready reference tools more appealing. Further study of user behavior would help librarians meet the needs of their clientele.  相似文献

Institutions of higher education are among the most prominent proponents of portals. A group of resident librarians at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) has targeted a larger audience by creating a customized Web portal to be used by library patrons throughout the Chicago area, whether they are academic, public, school or special library users. User-centered design is a principle stating that electronic resources, like library Web sites, should be built around the needs of the users. This article interviews Web developers of library and non-library-related Web sites, determining how they assess user needs and how they decide to adapt certain technologies for users. According to the panel, to understand these issues, Web services librarians should (a) give patrons a way to provide feedback on library sites; (b) observe and contemplate technology in a group setting; (c) only adapt technology that addresses a specific patron need; and (d) consider the library Web site as a part of the library, not a replacement for it.  相似文献

基于关键字匹配的搜索引擎排序网页时仅仅考虑评价网页的重要性,而忽视分类;基于分类目录的搜索引擎很难动态分析Web信息。本文在分析它们不足的前提下,提出利用模糊聚类的方法对搜索引擎的检索结果进行动态分类,依据超链分析算法PageRank和Web文档隶属度相结合进行分类排序,并给出具有调节值的结合公式。实验证明,该算法能够更有效地满足用户的需要,提高检索效率。  相似文献

Web使用挖掘研究用户访问行为所体现的行为特征,Web站点结构分析对于Web使用挖掘具有重要意义.本文讨论如何结合Web站点内页面间的超链结构和关键页面分析技术实现对Web站点的链接结构分析,得到清晰的站点拓扑结构和页面层次分类,进而以此为Web页面进行层次编码,和Web用户行为向量的建立方法,为准确表述用户的访问行为提供数据支持;用一种新的方式进一步有效的挖掘用户的行为特征.最后,把它同一些重要的页面分类方法,从算法的计算效率和页面分类的准确率上进行了比较,试验数据的分析表明,该方法在效率和准确率上有一定提高.  相似文献
