＂The Chinese Fever＂ in the British History

Porcelain wares were the most elegant present that China gave to Europe so that they are even called ＂China＂ in English. In the early 17th century when the Dutch people attacked Portuguese vessels and moved Chinese goods on the vessels to Amsterdam, the European women were so amazed by the elegance of the porcelain wares that they even did not dare to touch them. The production method of porcelain wares also has different versions in the West. Bacon （1561-1626） mentioned how the Chinese made porcelain in his book ＂The New Atlantis＂ （1624）. Thomas Brown （1605-1682） also pointed out two other ways of producing porcelain in the 17th century： to bury eggshells, lobster shells and plaster under the ground for 80 years; or to put the mud under the sunshine for 40 years. All these tales and legends made the porcelain wares even more sacred and precious.

Stories Behind National Treasures

"Panorama of the Capital City" (Qing Ming Shang He Tu) of the Song Dynasty. "Five Ox" of the Tang Dynasties... So many invaluable and world famous paintings that have been often heard of but never seen now come close to the general public. From later last year to early this year, 72 painting masterpieces that are considered national treasures were selected from the Forbidden City, Shanghai Museum and Liaoning Museum to appear at an exhibition held in Shanghai Museum. Those exhibits attract visitors not only with their incalculable artistic value but also with incredible stories behind them.     

Beauty of Ice and Snow on Canvas

Late September 2006, at the invitation of the Cultural Ministry of Belarus, a four-person delegation from northeast China＇s Heilongjiang Province visited Minsk, capital city of Belarus, to present China Ice and Snow Painting Exhibition at Belarus National Museum of History and Culture as part of China Culture Day co- sponsored by the cultural ministries of the two countries. The exhibition displayed 54 painting masterpieces by Yu Zhixue, founder of ice and snow painting, and his students. A renowned Belarus painter said that ＂Trees with Crystal-White ice＂, donated by Yu to Belarus National Museum of History and Culture, would become an everlasting memory of the city of Minsk.
