A microcomputer laboratory for juniors majoring in computer science was developed. It enables them to observe fundamental behavior of a computer by directly giving instructions to the CPU using a programmable diode array. The laboratory also includes experiments to synthesize a small microcomputer, with which advanced subjects such as interrupt processing and queue data structure usage are studied. As an application, a primitive interrupt‐driven graphics editor has been designed and implemented. Various circuit components were mounted on three panels, which facilitate for the students to construct required circuits. A personal computer has been used for software development.  相似文献

To what needs and purposes should the primary curriculum be chiefly directed in the coming decades? In a first step towards revising the primary curriculum, the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NCCA) invited responses to an open online call to ‘have your say’ on priorities for primary education. Respondents were asked to share their views in 100 words or less. Six priorities for primary education were identified across the 960 responses. These focused on developing children's life-skills; communication skills; well-being; literacy and numeracy skills; motivation and engagement; and their sense of identity and belonging. Across the priorities, there is recognition that skills learned in the primary years are related to one another and the extent to which children develop these is likely to have wide-ranging effects on their future experience as learners. Findings call for a revision of traditional, content-based curriculum subjects towards a better alignment with the needs of today's primary school children beginning with a more explicit focus on life-skills, and children's social and emotional development. Finally, we note the common ground across early childhood, primary and post-primary sectors and highlight the potential to align our values and vision for children and young people's education from the earliest years through adulthood.  相似文献

Neoliberal agendas have acted to limit the agency of groups and of individuals through both the imposition of boundaries and through setting up rigorous systems of accountability which together act to codify behaviours. Such systems do not so much remove freedom as influence conceptions about the alternatives available. In this article we outline the English educational policy context and the pressures placed upon first primary schools and then Higher Education establishments, considering the extent to which accountability and an emphasis on the needs of the individual impact on leadership behaviours in schools and upon academic freedoms in Higher Education. Boundaries to individual or group agency are explored drawing together lessons about the limits on professionals in these two situations.  相似文献

Tao Te Ching is chosen as the object of this study due to its everlasting charm and profound thoughts within 5000 characters.The thesis chooses versions translated by Arthur Waley(1889~1966),James Legge(1815~1897),Lin Yutang(1895~1976) and Gu Zheng kun(1951~) as the study cases on the account of their different cultural background and historical context,and also of their respective pur poses and interpretations.The translation products of these four translators are selected to analyze the subjectivity played by each of them and to explore to which extent the style and characteristics of the translators could influence the translation versions.  相似文献

Faculty renewal can be better understood and implemented when the resonant meanings of the term renewal are more fully appreciated. The essay integrates an etymological history of that word with several concrete programs that a Chair and Department can undertake to increase the production of quality faculty research. The shifting and multiple definitions of this term since the time of Chaucer suggest its dynamic, varied applicability today in any practical attempt to increase our colleagues' productivity. The essay also describes four archetypal examples of faculty in need of research renewal, and each example is related to the development of literary history, to various psychologies of success and failure, and to the unusual workings of a research committee.Peter Balbert received his graduate degrees from Cornell University. He is currently professor of English and chair of the English Department at Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas. The author of three books on D.H. From ‘ritual’ to ‘mindfulness’: policy and pedagogic positioning   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
Schools and professionals respond to statute in different ways. However, professional activity is more than mediated response to policy. Versions of pedagogy are not simply envisaged on high and enacted in the workplace. This paper examines how professional views formulate policy imperatives. It proposes that to understand pedagogy requires an understanding of the ways in which professional selves are realised in relation to the policy formation process. To do this, positioning theory is used to describe how practice produces policy. Accordingly, the paper examines the dynamic interplay between: first, the story lines unfolding within and outside school; second, the positions adopted by individuals in the course of pedagogic decision-making. Third, the illocutionary (that achieved in saying something) and perlocutionary (that achieved by saying something) effects of language. Following this ‘positioning triad’, the paper proposes ‘pedagogy as ritual’ and ‘pedagogy as mindfulness’ and how these are representative, respectively, of limiting and delimiting pedagogic discourses.  相似文献

A preoccupation with technology has helped bury the philosophical question: What is the point of education? I attempt to answer this question. Various answers to the question are surveyed and it is shown that they depend upon different conceptions of the self. For example, the devotional‐self of the 12th century (which was about becoming master of the self) gave way to the liberal‐self (which was to facilitate social change). Education can only be satisfactorily justified, I argue, by appeal to transcendent values such as mastery of the self, which is incipient in liberal education.  相似文献

Student evaluation questionnaires are used to measure academics’ performance in most English universities. Academics are assumed to respond professionally to student feedback, making appropriate improvements to their teaching. This paper describes a small-scale study into lecturers’ responses to student feedback. The evidence from semi-structured interviews suggests that the process is complex and is influenced by lecturers’ perceptions, beliefs and feelings. A typology of lecturers’ responses is developed, linked to concepts of performativity and professionalism, and consisting of four possible reactions: shame, blame, tame (the students) and reframe (the negative as something positive).  相似文献

Institutions of higher education world‐wide are in a state of flux; whether in developed countries where there is unease on the part of the community and politicians as to the value of such education for the resources expended, or in newly emergent nations where the institutions are often valued for the contribution they can make to nation‐building, but where the elitism they foster can lead to the imposition of a new social stratum on formerly agrarian societies.

Against this background this paper calls for an alert, active response to the task of leadership and management in our institutions. It is postulated that to meet the situation most institutions of higher education (IHEs) may have to move from the traditional “Oxbridge” community of scholars stance, to a more market‐oriented approach in patterns of governance and in their relationship with the societies they serve.  相似文献
