Exploration on Translation of Chinese Ancient Poetry:Taking The River-Merchant’s Wife:A Letter as Example

Based on social linguistics and semiotics,sociosemiotics is a renewed perspective to clarify meaning and function of certain signs in a specified social situation and identify correspondence in another culture through the creation and interpretation of texts as "encoding" and "decoding".This study attempts to make a comparative analysis of the similarities and dissimilarities of the realization of the sentimental resources of the ancient poem "The River-Merchant’s Wife:A Letter" and its English version,from the perspective of sociosemiotics and Appraisal Theory from systemic functional linguistics.     

The Distinctive Feature of Nashe＇s Poetry Spring——A Study of Spring

Thomas Nashe‘s Spring is a lyric poem extracted from his comedy “Will Summer‘s Testament”. It is a poem of iambic pentameter. The whole poem is made up of three stanzas. Simple and plain as its language is , it is the language of common speech of his own time, ingeniously chosen, refined, modified and heightened. The author‘s use of a combination of alliteration, mediate and end rhyme in its rhyme scheme makes the poem read as smoothly and briskly as singing a song. Among the sundry studies in China on John Donne’s The Flea,there has been none done from the perspective of Reader-Oriented Theory to probe into the readers’ roles in the construction of meaning.The present article under Wolfgang Iser’s theories,in a further pursuit of the expansion of the gestalt of such studies on the poem,aims at exploring the readers’ active roles in complementing,completing and recreating the textual meaning,and differentiating the implied reader and the actual reader through the poem as well as attempting to fulfill the construction of the reading cognitive model through the interpretation of the conceit the flea.
