A Life of Red Sandalwood

If you drive along the Chang＇an Avenue eastward in Beijing and pass through skyscrapers in CBD, you will soon encounter a complex of ancient buildings of Ming and Qing styles - China Red Sandalwood Museum. Behind the immense door lies an ancient art palace. This is the world＇s largest museum of red sandalwood architectures and carvings and also the only private museum in China that has ＂China＂ in its name, which receives the most heads of states and foreign government officials.     

Passion and Greatness： Miao Mo＇s Traditional Chinese Painting

Miao Mo is an accomplished painter nurtured in the time-honored artistic, tradition of Xi＇an, an ancient capital which witnessed heydays of the Chinese civilization. He showed strong interest in painting in his childhood and received academic training in fine arts in his teen years. In 1962, Miao pursued further training in the advanced course offered by the studio of traditional Chinese painting under the Artists Association of Shaanxi Province. In this three-year training program, Miao made remarkable progress in painting skills and deepened his understanding of the traditions and principles of Chinese painting, thanks to the mentorship of master Zhao Wangyun, founder of Chang＇an School of Painting, as well as the guidance of other prestigious artists like Shi Lu, He Haixia and Fang Jizhong.     

A Road of Peace and Exchange --Silk Road Successfully Listed as World Cultural Heritage

Pioneered over 2,000years ago, the Silk Roads started at Chang＇an, capital of the Western Han Dynasty, stretched through Hexi Corridor; the Pamirs, Central Asia and Western Asia, and eventually reached Africa and Europe. Over the sweep of history, the Silk Roads served as an artery of transportation, cultural exchange and trade contact between East and West, bearing the spirit of peace, cooperation, openness, inclusiveness, mutual learning and mutual benefit.     

NEW CAPITAL MUSEUM

The Capital Museum, founded in 1981, was originally seated in Beijing Confucius Temple which is a key heritage site under the state-level protection. In 2005 the museum moved into the new building located on the west end of Chang＇an Avenue. From the old, quiet temple to the modem structure with advanced facilities, the Capital Museum witnessed a thorough transformation.

Beauty of Ice and Snow on Canvas

Late September 2006, at the invitation of the Cultural Ministry of Belarus, a four-person delegation from northeast China＇s Heilongjiang Province visited Minsk, capital city of Belarus, to present China Ice and Snow Painting Exhibition at Belarus National Museum of History and Culture as part of China Culture Day co- sponsored by the cultural ministries of the two countries. The exhibition displayed 54 painting masterpieces by Yu Zhixue, founder of ice and snow painting, and his students. All the maior media organizations in Belarus reported the exhibition and Belarus Culture Daily gave an exclusive interview of Yu Zhixue. The Deputy Cultural Minister of Belarus was so impressed by the painting styles of Yu that he shook Yu＇s hands excitingly and highly praised Yu＇s works. Bird＇s Nest：The National Stadiumor the 2008 Olympics

The National Stadium, a major sports venue for the Beijing Olympic Games in 2008, stands on the southern tip of the central section of the Olympic Green. As a landmark of the Olympic Green, this multi-function stadium is the city＇s largest and most advanced sports facility. The National Stadium was co-designed by Herzog ＆ Menron, Arup and China Architecture Design ＆. Research Group. The whole structure covers an area of 258,000 sq. km. Its exterior resembles a bird＇s nest. The steel nest, looking like gray mineral, is covered by transparent coating. Inside the nest is a bowl-like bleacher in earthen red. The stadium＇s design reminds viewers of the red palaces within the gray walls of the Forbidden City. The National Stadium is a perfect blend of traditional Chinese aesthetics and culture, contemporary art and the Olympic spirit. The whole building is fnll of dynamics. Even human activities on the stadium＇s staircases constitute integral elements of the building＇s exterior. While it is amazingly innovative creation, the stadium is characterized by a simplistic and elegant style.     

60 Years of Qu Opera

A Qu Opera season was recently launched in Beijiing Chang＇an Theatre to celebrate the 60th anniversary of , the founding of the People＇s Republic of China. Ten QuOpera programs were staged within a 20-day season, presenting a grand arts gala to Beijing＇s opera lovers.
