THE POSSIBILITY OF PUBLIC EDUCATION IN AN INSTRUMENTALIST AGE

In our increasingly instrumentalist culture, debates over the privatization of schooling may be beside the point. Whether we hatch some new plan for chartering or funding schools, or retain the traditional model of government‐run schools, the ongoing instrumentalization of education threatens the very possibility of public education. Indeed, in the culture of performativity, not only the public school but public life itself is hollowed out and debased. Qualities are recast as quantities, judgments replaced by rubrics, teaching and learning turned into exchange values. Schools should be central to public life: key locations for the regeneration of values, the cultivation of judgment, and the creation of the conditions for positive freedom. In this article Chris Higgins, drawing on Hannah Arendt and Alasdair MacIntyre, goes beyond typical treatments of the schools as equalizer of individual opportunity to explore three aspects of educational publicity: the school as an object of communal concern, schooling as preparation for public life, and the classroom as public space.     

INTERNATIONAL CO‐OPERATION IN HIGHER EDUCATION: THE GLOBALIZATION OF UNIVERSITIES

This article begins by posing some fundamental questions about global co‐operation and why co‐operation among nations is necessary. Co‐operation in higher education can foster global understanding and bridge cultural gaps. What is therefore called for is the globalization of universities. For positive international co‐operation in education to occur, the following initiatives are required: global perspectives in the curriculum, foreign students as learning resources, the globalization of universities and colleges, and the disengagement of educational policy from foreign policy.

PERSONAL REFLECTIONS ON THE ROLE OF ART IN JEWISH EDUCATION

There are two components to this presentation — one deals with sociological analysis, whether based on research data or on armchair speculation; the other is outright prognostication. Only a very thin line divides prognostication from prophecy, and I am keenly aware of the dangers to which I am exposing myself since, as our sages taught us after the destruction of the Temple, only children and fools possess prophetic faculties. This danger is compounded by the very nature of our professional work. We cannot merely speculate about the future; our métier requires that we propose policy or, if you prefer, assist and guide our lay leadership in making policy.

本文主旨是探讨全球化话语与教育的关联性。首先藉由主要文献的整理探讨“全球化”一词所指涉的现象、涵义和论辩,了解全球化是一个涉及权力、多重声音和多元实际的复杂谜题或抗争历程,厘清全球化与全球资本主义的密切关联;其次探讨全球化话语与教育的关系,借用詹妮弗·陈-提伯肯恩的架构,归纳出目前全球化话语中四种不同研究取向的主要关怀、提问焦点,包括社会重建、教育制度主义、教育多边主义以及全球社会正义等,说明其不同的价值取向,其中涉及竞争求胜或社会正义的论辩和抗争,尤其针对“全球社会正义”研究取向,说明批判教育学学者对于全球资本主义的教育批判;然后以高等教育为主,说明资本主义对于高等教育的影响,尤其以台湾地区高等教育学术评鉴为倒说明;最后是结语和反思。     

网络时代思想道德教育探索

当前社会,互联网正以空前的广度和深度渗透到人们生活当中.互联网给人们带来文明进步的同时,也有相当的负面效应黄毒泛滥、版权侵犯、计算机病毒传播、垃圾邮件、黑客骚扰等一系列极端不道德的网络犯罪行为不一而足.提倡网络道德,加强道德自律,应成为当前德育工作的重要内容.     

ENGAGING DEMOCRATIC EDUCATION IN THE NEOLIBERAL AGE

A bstract .  For the democratic tradition to return to a vanguard position in education requires a thorough exploration of the problems of democratization in education and an inventory of possible new forms. In this essay, Simon Marginson reviews five books concerned with democracy and education: Michael Apple's Educating the "Right" Way , Denis Carlson's Leaving Safe Harbors , A. Belden Fields and Walter Feinberg's Education and Democratic Theory , Trevor Gale and Kathleen Densmore's Engaging Teachers , and Klas Roth's Democracy, Education and Citizenship . While these authors imagine democracy in somewhat different ways, they have a common interest in the role of public schooling in the formation of democratic agents and practices. The books do not offer a definitive account of the problems of democratization, nor do they embody a major breakthrough in democratic educational thinking, but they all provide helpful explorations of these issues. Marginson concludes with some thoughts on commodification and neoliberal economism in education, a contemporary focus of discussion in democratic educational circles.

新型公办本科院校(下文简称"新公本院校")历史底蕴不足、基础差、底子薄,其开设动画专业的比重大,而连续几年全国高校动画专业出现了失业率高就业率低的红色警示信号,在新公本院校面临向应用型大学转型的时局时,新公本院校的动画艺术教育需从生源、师资、人才培养方案与课程体系、校企合作四方面现状提出思考.
