A Study on the Translator’s Subjectivity of Wolf Totem

The translator, as the main body of a translation, has been in an invisible and ignored state for a long time. The position of the translator has been improved and the role of the translator has begun to be recognized since the field of translation studies multifaceted and deepened. In order to analyze the translator’s subjectivity better, the thesis states comprehensive definitions of the translator’s subjectivity and uses Wolf Totem as a case study, whose author is Jiang Rong and the translator is Howard Goldblatt, to show that how the translator Howard Goldblatt utilizes his subjectivity in the translation process.

Confucianism in Walden—A Comparative Study of Walden and the Four Books

As is known to everyone, Henry David Thoreau was an outstanding American writer in the 19th century. However, he did not attract much attention at that time. In fact, Thoreau did not have a profound influence on American culture until the 20th century. It is generally acknowledged that his masterpiece Walden is one of the most outstanding literary works, in which the richness of thoughts contributes greatly to the spread of Thoreau's philosophy. Thanks to it, Thoreau's philosophy has attracted more and more attention. It is pleasantly surprised for a Chinese reader to find Confucianism in an American classical work of the 19th century. Many scholars have studied Confucianism in Walden in order to analyze how Confucianism influences Thoreau. However, these studies more or less overstate or understate the influence of Confucianism. Therefore, such a research does have great practical significance, that is, to objectively analyze how Confucianism influences an American writer and how it is repre?sented in his representative work.     

Comparisons between Liang Shiqiu’s and Zhu Shenghao’s Hamlet from the Perspective of Translator’s Subjectivity

For the Chinese versions of Hamlet, Liang Shiqiu’s and Zhu Shenghao’s translations can be called the classic. Because the two great translators have their own choices, their versions differ a lot. Guarding the Pure Land of the Heart—A Comparison of Outlooks on Life in Walden and Zhuangzi

Zhuangzi is the masterpiece of Zhuangzi, and Walden is the masterpiece of Henry David Thoreau. This paper intends to study the similarities of Zhuangzi’s and Thoreau’s outlooks on life by analyzing Thoreau’s origin with Taoism and the absorption from Taoism in Walden. By making a large amount of analysis and comparison of the texts in these two works, the paper comes to such a conclusion: both Thoreau and Zhuangzi advocate to simplify people’s material life and to seek voluntary poverty; they are willing to enjoy the solitude and pursue the spiritual independence and freedom; they prefer to return to nature, live harmoniously with nature and therefore reach the realm of"unity of heaven and humanity". They pay more attention to human existence and their spiritual state. In the complicated modern society, people devote themselves to seeking a materially rich life. However, they do not attach enough importance to spiritual richness. As a result, the whole human society is facing a serious spiritual crisis in modern times. Thoreau’s and Zhuangzi’s outlooks on life can lead people to go through various difficulties of life and guard the pure land of the heart.
