Determinants of retention among Chicano college students: A structural model

This study tested a modified version of Tinto's student attrition model on a Chicano student population in two-year colleges. Structural equation modeling and LISREL VI were used to examine the parameter estimates of the structural and measurement models of the hypothesized causal model. Measures of goodness of fit were examined to provide indices for the overall fit of the causal model in the study. The measurement and structural models were found to represent a plausible causal model of student retention among Chicano students. Although the measures used in assessing the fit of the model reflected the overall strength of the hypothesized model, the present study was not entirely supportive of Tinto's model. The findings were only minimally supportive of the hypothesized relationship between measures of academic integration and retention. The results indicated that the hypothesized relationship between measures of social integration could not be substantiated. Moreover, measures of initial commitments were found to have a significantly large direct effect on the dependent variable, retention.     

Using word study instruction with developmental college students

This study investigates the effect of word study instruction on the orthographic knowledge of college students enrolled in a developmental reading course. Results revealed significantly greater improvement in orthographic knowledge in students who received word study instruction when compared with those in a control group, suggesting that the word study approach was effective for these students. Because of the influence of orthographic knowledge on spelling, writing and reading, additional research is merited to examine how word study intervention impacts the reading behaviours and academic achievement of college students enrolled in developmental education courses.

Using texting to nudge urban public school students to and through college

Abstract

This study investigates how a network of New York City public schools use texting to increase enrollment and persistence in college. Text messages include tips and reminders to fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid as well as college tips. Our multiple regression results suggest that although when the texting began did not appear to matter, the texting program increased enrollment and persistence in college. In addition, response rates were positively associated with enrollment and persistence. Finally, we find that the content of the messages themselves as well as individual characteristics affected response rates.     

90后大学生感恩现状调查

近几年来90后大学生感恩意识的缺失,引起了社会各界的广泛关注。如何切实有效地开展大学生感恩教育,已成为当前大学生思想政治教育工作中的一个重要课题。笔者从实证研究的角度,调查当代大学生的感恩现状,并提出了开展90后大学生感恩教育的切入点。     

维吾尔族大学生汉语元音听辨实验研究

本次声学实验研究了维吾尔族学习者对汉语元音的听辨。结果显示,在听辨汉语发音人产出的元音时,汉语水平较高的维族学习者的准确度和反应时间都要明显优于低水平学习者。所有维族学习者在听辨元音//,/i/和/ε/时偏误最多。本实验结果印证了Speech Learning Model,Perceptional Assimilation Model以及本族语口音优势假说。此外,本实验结果还显示出二语习得收到受到学习者母语语音系统的制约。

当代大学生体育兴趣的研究

研究旨在系统了解当代大学生体育兴趣现状并发现存在的主要问题,为进一步深化学校体育改革提供依据.研究表明,有82%的大学生对体育活动抱有兴趣,健身、调节心理与娱乐是大学生参加体育活动的主要价值取向;场地器材短缺、体育课不能使学生获得良好的心理生理体验,是影响学生体育兴趣的主要因素.建议增加学校场地、器材设施的建设,改革体育教学,加强学生课外体育活动组织建设,培养和激发学生的体育兴趣.

近期调查发现,在校大学生自杀死亡现象呈逐年上升趋势。因此,探寻大学生自杀倾向的原因显得尤为必要与紧迫。文章从大学生自身、家庭、学校以及社会大环境诸方面分析了目前在校大学生自杀倾向的成因,为应对策略提供有力的支持,以期控制和杜绝大学生自杀惨剧的发生。     

当代大学生道德状况分析与研究对策

随着社会主义市场经济发展和改革开放的逐步深入，当代大学生与以往大学生相比在思想道德方面有了很大的变化，面对新情况，要进行了实事求是的分析，了解当代大学生的实际思想道德状况，针对大学生道德品质的不同层次，既要肯定先进层次，也不可忽视落后层次的存在。     

Twenty years of research on college students: Lessons for future research

Based on a comprehensive review of the last twenty years of research on the influences of college on students, this article discusses conceptual and methodological recommendations for enhancing future assessment and college impact studies. The recommendations deal with isolating net college effects, studying the timing of change, estimating college effect sizes, examining indirect and conditional effects, and the potential benefits of qualitative approaches. Areas for future inquiry are also identified.Presented at the Annual Forum of the Association for Institutional Research, Louisville, KY, May 13–16, 1990.     

对一般本科类院校大学生就业难问题的思考

高职生与本科生人格特质的比较研究

本研究采用Y－G人格测验量表，通过对高职生与本科生的比较研究，对商职生的人格特质进行了初步的探讨。结果发现，高职生与本科生具有许多共同的良好的人格特质，他们之间差异主要表现在高职生具有较差的合作精神和较差的社交能力上。在人格类型高职生中稳定适应型－－C型与C′型的人数明显少于本科生。

高职艺术专业学生英语学习动机与策略调查的启示

本文采用定量研究的方法,调查研究了高职艺术专业学生英语学习动机与学习策略运用的特点。得出以下结论：高职艺术专业学生的学习功利性外在动机较强,内在动机较弱;各项学习策略中学生的母语策略使用最频繁;记忆策略和认知策略与学生的英语成绩呈正相关,但这两项策略的使用频率却偏低等。为此,本文最后就高职艺术专业学生英语教学提出几点建议。     

女大学生身体形态、素质及机能的调研分析与对策研究

[方法]通过教学实验法、文献资料法、数据统计分析法,对大连大学2001级223名女大学生身体形态、机能、运动能力进行测试分析.[结果]有氧耐力素质差,下肢力量差,女生腰腹肌力量有较大提高.[结论]主观上是意志品质问题,客观上是高考应试的结果,身体素质方面是心肺功能缺乏锻炼.
