This article reports the results of a statewide survey of health status, behaviors, and concerns of 446 randomly selected early childhood professionals (78 group child care center directors, 236 teachers, and 132 family child care providers). More than 85% of each professional group rated their health as either good or excellent; 87% have worked when ill. Twenty-five percent of the sample (33% directors, 15% staff, 36% family providers) have become pregnant since working in child care. Respondents reported being “overweight” at levels more than twice state adult frequencies. Dramatic changes were reported in perceived frequency of various symptoms and becoming ill since working in child care. Significant differences between the groups were found for number of absences due to illness, nutrition, stressfulness of working in child care, and ergonomics and physical demands of the job.  相似文献

Video is increasingly used to support in-service teacher professional development (TPD). Advances in affordability and usability of technology mean that interest is set to develop further. Studies in this area are diverse in terms of scale, methodology and context. This places limitations on undertaking a systematic review; therefore the authors use a scoping review approach. Their analysis involves 82 studies from which they thematise subtopics and assess research characteristics. This provides a much-needed analysis to inform researchers and practitioners. Additionally, the authors identify robust studies that consider the effect of video on teacher cognition and classroom practice. A consistent finding is that video is effective when used as part of TPD. Since studies largely use thematic qualitative analysis, however, this consensus needs further examination. Further qualitative and quantitative research is needed to identify how the use of video impacts on classroom practices.  相似文献

Due to complex individual, interpersonal, and systemic factors, deaf and hard of hearing (d/hoh) individuals often receive inadequate, inappropriate, and unethical health care. This article begins with a review of the relevant socioeconomic and legal issues and the health status of d/hoh individuals. I then review health care starting with the patient's knowledge base, personal experiences, and understanding of health care relationships. I discuss the Deaf community's perspectives, providers' views about disability, communication between providers and deaf patients, and barriers encountered in health care delivery. The article concludes by assessing these factors' effects on health care delivery to d/hoh people, reviewing the ethical implications, and making recommendations for change.  相似文献

A survey was conducted in a public, research university located in a large and diverse metropolitan area in the southeastern part of the USA. The purpose of the survey was to determine both the positive and negative personal, educational, social, and work related consequences of playing video games. Nearly two‐thirds of the 203 participants in this study were of Hispanic heritage. A majority of the sample of participants was derived using a school intercept, as opposed to mall intercept, strategy. The remaining participants were obtained using snowball, and convenience sampling techniques. Statistically significant differences between males and females were found in the areas of communication, decision making in daily lives, leadership skills, collaborating, functioning in a team, and giving directions to others. The authors had the task of evaluating an innovative style of exhibition in the Royal Museums of Scotland. Believing in the principle (established by the Gothenberg Group) that learning must be studied from the viewpoint of the learner, the authors sought a practicable technique of formative evaluation which would give illuminative insights into experience. Retaining the tools of questionnaire and interview to provide baseline data on reported experience and opinion, they applied Kagan's technique of Interpersonal Process Recall (structured video recall) to gain direct insight into the experience of visitors to the exhibition. This account explains how the technique suited this purpose, and describes the modifications found necessary to classic IPR for this context.  相似文献

Although video clubs have been used to support (student) teachers' learning through reflection upon practice, less attention has been paid to their potential use for supporting changes in participants' practice over a period of time. Prior work has also largely treated (student) teachers as an undifferentiated whole that benefits in similar ways from video clubs. In this study, we problematize this assumption by drawing on three cases of student teachers to exemplify three different learning paths while participating in a video club during field placement. Reflecting on these findings, we discuss implications for differentiating the video-club approach to address different student teachers.  相似文献
