LOM元数据应用探讨星地一体教育资源素材库的组织

本文在简要介绍教育资源元数据标准的基础上，进一步介绍了LOM元数据在媒体素材库中的应用。同时，还就网络信息组织中的应用做了分析，并且提出若干建议。

Website creation and resource management: developing collaborative strategies for asynchronous interaction with library users

Objective: To make electronic resources available to library users while effectively harnessing intellectual capital within the library, ultimately fostering the library’s use of technology to interact asynchronously with its patrons (users). Methods: The methods used in the project included: (1) developing a new library website to facilitate the creation, management, accessibility, maintenance and dissemination of library resources; and (2) establishing ownership by those who participated in the project, while creating effective work allocation strategies through the implementation of a content management system that allowed the library to manage cost, complexity and interoperability. Results: Preliminary results indicate that contributors to the system benefit from an increased understanding of the library’s resources and add content valuable to library patrons. These strategies have helped promote the manageable creation and maintenance of electronic content in accomplishing the library’s goal of interacting with its patrons. Conclusions: Establishment of a contributive system for adding to the library’s electronic resources and electronic content has been successful. Further work will look at improving asynchronous interaction, particularly highlighting accessibility of electronic content and resources.

本文介绍了元数据的定义,分析了都柏林核心元数据的发展历程、基本元素与修饰词,介绍了我国目前几个应用到都柏林核心元数据的数字图书馆项目,并简单论述了中文元数据需解决的问题.     

A metadata initiative for global information discovery

The Global Information Locator Service (GILS) encompasses a global vision framed by the fundamental values of open societies. Societal values such as a free flow of information impose certain requirements on the society’s information infrastructure. These requirements in turn shape the various laws, policies, standards, and technologies that determine the infrastructure design. A particular focus of GILS is the requirement to provide the means for people to discover sources of data and information. Information discovery in the GILS vision is designed to be decentralized yet coherent, and globally comprehensive yet useful for detailed data. This article introduces basic concepts and design issues, with emphasis on the techniques by which GILS supports interoperability. It explains the practical implications of GILS for the common roles of organizations involved in handling information, from content provider through system engineer and intermediary to searcher. The article provides examples of GILS initiatives in various types of communities: bibliographic, geographic, environmental, and government.     

关于制定中文元数据标准的思考

作者认为,中文元数据标准应以DC为基本框架,并完全遵循和保留DC的结构、特点及扩展方式等,坚决防止CNMARC化倾向;中文元数据标准应形成一个完整的体系,对所涉及的相关的中文标准、规则、方案等,按照通用性、易用性等原则进行修改和制定;这一标准体系应成为全球各类中文信息资源著录和检索的标准.     

Recordkeeping metadata and archival description: a revisit

Metadata go through an evolutionary process from creation to archival preservation. During this process, some metadata are re-used (inheritance), other metadata are eliminated (extinction) and still others are updated or newly generated (mutation). Unlike other literature that focuses on metadata inheritance and mutation, this evolutionary view highlights the extinction of metadata. As such, it might raise awareness about the appraisal and selection of metadata in digital curation practice.     

Darwin and MARC: a voyage of metadata discovery

Awash with discipline driven metadata, information providers are seeking ways to bridge formats. This paper provides an overview of major schemes in vogue related to natural history, and discusses a project that enhanced MARC metadata to provide taxonomic and geospatial fields. These enhancements permit simultaneous searching of museum specimen records and scientific citations. Potential GIS applications are described.     

数字图书馆的跨文化可用性初探

数字图书馆的建设者和使用者往往来自不同的文化背景,文化差异在数字资源的传播中通过可用性影响过程的顺利实施。文化包含多个层面和多种元素,不同层面和元素对数字图书馆可用性有不同的影响。其中,语言、文化隐喻与文化心理是文化的核心要素,在跨文化可用性建设中具有重要作用。文化心理差异对于数字资源的传播过程具有显著的影响,国际化是数字图书馆跨文化可用性建设的重点。
