随着信息技术和网络技术的发展，如何防止信息不被非法截获和破坏，即有效维护网络信息的安全性，已成为众人关注的焦点。作为新一代的操作系统Windows 2000，可通过多种技术和手段来控制用户对资源的访问，提高网络的安全性。其中包括与活动目录服务的集成、支持认证Windows 2000用户的Kerberos v5认证协议、提供了公钥基础设施PKI支持，用公钥证书对外部用户进行认证、使用加密文件系统EFS（Encrypting File System）保护本地数据以、使用Interner协议安全IPSec（Intrnet Protocol security）来保证通过公有网络的通信的安全性，以及基于Windows 2000的安全应用开发的可扩展性等等。     

论移动／无线环境下的数字图书馆建设

论文论述了移动计算技术对数字图书馆建设的重要性，分析了当前主要的几种移动计算技术及其标准，包括IEEE 802．11家族、HyperLAN2、IrDA、HomeRF和Bluetooth，以及WAP协议，阐述了移动计算技术应用于数字图书馆所具有的优越性。最后则展望一个应移动计算技术的全新数字图书馆的应用体验。

Acquisitions in the nineties: Surviving the fragmenting future

Articles forecasting the effects of automation on libraries have only recently begun to recognize the impact technologies external to the library will have on the acquisition function and librarians in all parts of academic libraries. Although the technologies appear to be fragmenting the acquisitions process within and external to the library, these technologies offer options that will dramatically change how libraries serve their clientele. At this time, these options may preclude traditional organizational design. Acquisitions librarians and their peers in all library departments must explore and learn about these technologies and the information they can provide, and actively participate in the design of new services.     

Measuring patrons' technology habits: an evidence-based approach to tailoring library services

Librarians continually integrate new technologies into library services for health sciences students. Recently published data are lacking about student ownership of technological devices, awareness of new technologies, and interest in using devices and technologies to interact with the library. A survey was implemented at seven health sciences libraries to help answer these questions. Results show that librarian assumptions about awareness of technologies are not supported, and student interest in using new technologies to interact with the library varies widely. Collecting this evidence provides useful information for successfully integrating technologies into library services.

Video as a format in health information

Video is a medium that has passed through a progression of technical advances including the invention of videotape, the incremental refinements to laser videodisc technologies, and the arrival of digital imaging technologies such as CD-ROM, DVD, and the Web's video streaming. Today, video is firmly established as a convenient and effective medium for conveying medical information. One result of these developments is that medical reference librarians can expect to encounter information requests and professional tasks that will require an understanding of these wide-ranging and differing video technologies.

分析CtoC电子商务平台中的用户行为特征,提出在此类站点中实施Web个性化推荐技术的基本原则和特点,并指出该种技术的三个明显特点。最后,结合Web个性化推荐技术的三种主要流程,对CtoC电子商务平台实施Web个性化推荐技术的方法作详细说明。     

Museum professionals and the relevance of LIS expertise

This article presents results from a survey designed to assess the relevance of library and information science (LIS) expertise—here defined as those topics typically, but not exclusively, taught in LIS programs—for museum professionals. The topics covered in this article are information representation, information organization and access, information management, computer technologies, digitization technologies, interactive technologies, information policy, evaluation methods, and collaboration initiatives. An online survey assessed the degree to which museum professionals possess skills in these topics, perform work in these topics, and consider these topics important for future study. The article examines the relative value of each topic for museum professionals and discusses the importance of strengthening relationships between LIS and museum studies by better understanding the relevance of LIS expertise in museums.

What are the expectations and strategies of journal publishers in dealing with the changing technology? What special issues do these devices present regardimng licensing?     

Educating the cataloguer—An international survey

This paper discusses free online and Internet tools that can be adapted by librarians for use with library instruction and information literacy training, with a focus on social media and Web 2.0 technologies, including social networking websites Facebook and Twitter, blogs, RSS, wikis, and video sharing. Many students already use these technologies and are readily engaged with the library when the technologies are incorporated into library websites and classes. There are challenges in using these technologies, especially in countries with oppressive governments. This paper is based, in part, on a presentation the authors gave at the UNESCO Training the Trainers in Information Literacy Workshop at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina in Alexandria, Egypt in November 2008.
