《1848年至1850年的法兰西阶级斗争》(通常简称为《法兰西阶级斗争》) “是马克思用他的唯物主义观点从一定经济状况出发来说明一段现代历史的初次尝试”。这部著作写于1850年1月至11月。它最初的总标题为《从1848至1849年》,是专为《新莱茵报·政治经济评论》写的专文。1895年《法兰西阶级斗争》以单行本出版。恩格斯为之写了导言,并增添了第四章,即《1850年普选权的废除》,使这部书成为完整的著作。

《包法利夫人》是法国文学史上一个里程碑式的作品,它和塞万提斯的《唐·吉诃德》有异曲同工之妙,如果说塞万提斯的《唐·吉诃德》是对骑士小说的批判的话,那么福楼拜的《包法利夫人》就是对浪漫主义小说的讽刺。
