He also analyzes the impact of declining enrollments in higher education and the growing competition that the video industry (and its concentration) poses to book publishing. In this article we will provide a general overview of the situation of the digital publishing in Europe starting from the insights provided by the Editech conference, the international day of advanced study organized by the Italian Publishers Association and focused on the trends, perspectives and applications of technological innovation in publishing at an international level. It is the main Italian event dedicated to book publishing with the aim of helping publishers define their short- and medium-term digital strategies, while being aware of the opportunities and risks involved in the conversion to digital of their business model. The Editech 2010 main focus had been: the market and the national and international situation of digital publishing, the new buying and reading behaviors of consumers, e-books and content for e-readers and mobile devices, new production processes (XML, ePub, digital printing) and the distribution scenario and the diffusion of digital content.  相似文献

The computer offers extensive advantages over even the most advanced printing and information distribution technologies. Most important, it brings into the public compendium quantities of information too vast to be embodied in print. The computer has increased the power of societies, just as the printing press did. It also has the capacity to change our basic conception of reality and alter the power of the word. Because of its capacity to alter society, basic issues of access and privacy must be resolved as a new information infrastructure is created, comparable to that existing for print. Abstract

Publishing and printing in Montenegro are very much connected to the history of Montenegro and its people. The author discusses publishing in the territory until 1990, and then from 1991 to the present. Approximately 40 new, private publishers have emerged in the past decade. She discusses current major publishers, old and new, along with their profiles and recent notable titles. She then lists important periodicals. The article concludes with the hope that Montenegro will soon break out of its isolation and become a more integral part of the East European market for the printed word.  相似文献

With the presence of online, digital content and new services for manipulating and searching it, printing and publishing firms may experience technological uncertainty and risk and diminishing profitability. Mergers and acquisitions are approaches for dealing with the current technology and market changes that are underway in the printing and publishing industry. Using an event study methodology and a sample of 60 U.S. printing and publishing firms, this study investigates the value creation of acquiring information technology (IT) services firms. The study's findings reveal that printing and publishing firms experience significant increases in their market values as a result of acquiring IT services firms. In fact, non-newspaper firms realize the largest increases in market value. The study's findings should help academicians and practitioners understand the kinds of strategic acquisitions from which printing and publishing firms are most likely to benefit.  相似文献

To understand modern publishing, detailed historical studies must be undertaken of individual publishing houses, their leading figures, and their relationships with authors. Such studies, the authors argue, will permit us to understand how a publishing house establishes its identity. They describe in detail a research program based on these principles that is investigating literary publishing in Quebec. 活字印刷在古代中国没有像古代朝鲜和中世纪末期欧洲那样成为文献复制方式的主流,与其自身的特点以及中国封建社会的经济、社会、文化和学术环境相关。活字技术适合一次性印刷大批量书籍,不如雕版技术适合长线印刷。中国地域广袤,除中央机构刻印书籍外,地方印书业也比较发达,官府、书院、私人等都刻印或覆刻书籍,一次性印量有限,多采用雕版技术长线印刷。古代朝鲜在学习了中国的活字印刷技术之后,与其社会特点与需要相结合,得到了广泛应用。古代朝鲜中央设立书籍院,铸造活字,统一负责图书印刷并发放至地方,活字技术正好适合大批量图书的印刷。与同时期中国封建社会环境不同的是,15世纪中叶德国人谷腾堡发明铅合金活字时,正值欧洲宗教改革和工业革命的前夜,活字印刷适应了文艺复兴和宗教改革运动对文献印刷和传播的需要,社会结构、工商业环境、资本市场的变化以及出版企业化等因素,推动了活字印刷在欧洲的广泛应用和迅速发展。活字印刷术虽然在中国古代并未成为图书出版的主流,但它仍在传播文化领域发挥了重要的作用,与雕版印刷术一道,构成了中华民族对全人类最伟大的贡献之一。参考文献22。  相似文献

This article discusses changes in technology, internationalization, organization, and context, along with implications for the purpose of publishing education, its objectives, and scope. What are the conditions of the sales and purchases of translation rights in the Italian Market? The article summarizes and compares the results of two research studies conducted, respectively in 2003 and 2008 by the Italian Trade Commission as part of the initiatives planned in the Sector agreement stipulated among the Italian Ministry for Productive Activity, the Italian Publishing Association and the Italian Trade Commission. The objective is to optimize synergies between public and private activities in Italy in order to increase the export activity of the publishing industry sector. Both years the survey has been conducted by DOXA, a major Italian statistic research company. The researches focused on three fundamental variables: the geographical area in which a sales-purchases relationship is established, the genre of the books and the size of the companies involved by the phenomenon.  相似文献

‘It's important that we remember the past is not just dry facts and statistics but also the detailed lives of real people. SAPPHIRE aims to give a voice to these lives.’ The Scottish Archive of Print and Publishing History Records (SAPPHIRE), an initiative with Napier University as lead and Queen Margaret University College as main collaborative partner, is an oral history project which aims to record the social, economic and cultural heritage of the Scottish printing and publishing industry in the 20th century. Undertaken in partnership with a number of Scottish organizations, its results are providing a better understanding of an important and overlooked part of Scotland's heritage. Outcomes of the project include a permanent oral history archive stored at the Edward Clark Collection at Napier University, and exhibitions and publications on the history of the printing and publishing industry. True European integration cannot occur without developing a common cultural base that preserves diversity. An analysis of the present European publishing market and the involvement to date of the European Community in publishing sheds light on the likely impact of European unity on the industry. The book is the main force of European culture, and European publishing is healthy. To protect and enhance this vitality, the European Community must promote coordination with regard to author/publisher relations, adaptation of book distribution channels, book pricing, taxation, libraries, promotion of reading, foreign trade, control of illicit reprography, and development of information and research relevant to publishing and the book. Germán Sánchez Ruipérez is founder, chairman and CEO of Grupo Anaya and CEO of America Publishing Group.
