Memetics is originally a theory for interpreting cultural evolution. Memes, coined to disclose a strong analogy with genes, are ideas that spread through human cultures and across the generation. As cultural replicators, memes are propagated and transmitted through imitation; language, as part of culture, produces under the influence of memes. This paper discusses the relationship between language and culture and that between language and memes. In addition, the classification of linguistic memes and the survival law residing in the memes are also expounded. Code-switching is a socio-linguistic term,which refers to the switching from one language to another.This paper attempts to show that code-switching can be used as a teaching strategy for second language teaching by illustrating the possible reasons for the switching.It also explores the possibility of viewing code-switching as language interferenve from a teaching perspective.In accordance with these analysis this paper makes a conclusion that when code-switching is to compensate for a language cifficulty it may be viewed as interfernce and when it is used as a socio-linguistic tool it becomes a strategy.  相似文献

The traditional theory of metaphor holds that as a rhetorical means, metaphor is mainly employed in literary works, while the theory of cognitive metaphor holds that metaphor is pervasive in our thought, action and language. The paper will discuss and analyze the characteristics of metaphors in headlines by analyzing a large number of English news examples. This paper argues for the need of the reappraisal of the formulaic aspect of language in second language acquisition by drawing insights from recent development in applied linguistics, psycholinguistics and corpus linguistics. This library study begins by reviewing the dual-nature view of language in relation to formulaic aspect of language. Then, a brief survey of evidence from corpus linguistics is provided to demonstrate the formulaicity of language. What follows is the discussion of rehearsal and implicit learning vis-a-vis memory from the perspective of psycholinguistics. After that, the role of formulaic language in second language acquisition is examined by taking stock of empirical findings that have accumulated in this area. Finally, by way of conclusion, how the formulaicity of language can shed light on second/foreign language teaching theory is illustrated.  相似文献

This paper reviews the theory of language attrition,which refers to the loss or degradation of second language skills due to lack of using the second language for a certain period of time.Although our country attaches great importance to English language teaching,most of college English majors use English far less frequently than that of Chinese in real life,which makes them easily influenced by language attrition.Therefore,it is of great significance for college English majors to improve the efficiency of English vocabulary memory from the perspective of language attrition combined with Forgetting.This thesis consists of three parts.Chapter one is an analysis the concept of language attrition and Forgetting.Chapter two describes and analyzes the existing problems in current vocabulary memory among the college English majors via a questionnaire survey.The final chapter puts forward some corresponding countermeasures to help college English majors get rid of the influence of language attrition on vocabulary learning.  相似文献

The main purpose of this article is to give some clarity to the use of the term "communicative" in describing approaches to foreign or second language teaching. It is suggested that a distinction be drawn between "informal" communicative approaches which promote second language "acquisition", and "formal" communicative approaches which promote "learning". This distinction between "acquisition" and "learning", which is taken from the work of Stephen Krashen, is carefully explained and the conditions for achieving both in the classroom considered. In addition it is suggested that there is a need actively to teach pupils how to make use of conscious "learnt" knowledge in order to "monitor" their performance in a second language appropriately.  相似文献

Jef Verschueren is the representative of European Continental pragmatic thought.He puts forward a new theory that pragmatics is a perspective on language and he uses the theory of adaptation to analyze pragmatics."The general concern for the study of linguistic pragmatics is to understand the meaningful functioning of a language as a dynamic process operating on context-structure relationships at various levels of salience"(Verschuren 2000:69).The focal points in contexts are the utterer and the interpreter,for the physical,social and mental aspects of contexts are activated by language users’cognitive processes.Verschueren divided interpreter’s roles into five types:addressee,side participant,bystander,listener-in and eavesdropper,which can explain the adaptation of context and language choices.This is also applicable in college English classroom as the English class is also a context.At present students taught at the same time by the same teacher do not master the knowledge at the same level.One of the reason is that students are not engaged in the class at the same level.According to the Verschueren’s theory,the best English teaching class is one that each student in the addressee of teachers.Addressee is a metaphor which means everyone should follow the teachers’explanation carefully and take part in the teaching activities.It has something to do with interaction theory,which considers students as active individuals but not passive receivers.One of the common interaction patterns is questioning.In this thesis,the question how to make students addresses through adoption of questioning approach in college English class will be researched.  相似文献

An attempt was made to evaluate what is tested and how it is tested in the IELTS academic test from a thinking-based perspective. The analysis framework is an incorporation of Bloom’s taxonomy of educational objectives and Bachman’s classification of language knowledge. It is found that the IELTS test exemplifies an assessment of test-takers’ language knowledge and cognitive processes.  相似文献
