There is a legitimate place for genuine religious education within publicly supported schools in western pluralist democracies. The idea of the single common school is dead or dying in the densely populated parts of the western, English-speaking democracies. Once choice of school is conceded, then the religious school should be a central offering.Religion has a traditional place in most western democracies, eitherde jure orde facto. Further, there is evidence that religious adolescents make at least as good, and probably better, citizens than do those without religion.Finally, the idea of a consensually acceptable secular alternative based on high moral values is no longer tenable. Anything approaching a common school must be bound by minimal values not a high-level set, because there is simply no large set that is universally acceptable and agreed upon. In practice, urban, public schools serving heterogeneous clients rely heavily on exactly such a minimal set.  相似文献

It is increasingly acknowledged that for individuals to participate in a pluralistic and democratic society, they must understand religious conviction and difference. In educational literature, the discussion surrounding education and religion focuses on the implications for students. It is important to consider what this may mean to the teachers, as teachers directly influence student learning. This article uses literature on religion, multiculturalism, teacher identity, and popular culture to connect teachers' private religious identifications to their professional identities in public school classrooms. It supports future research in this area and provides a theoretical framework for subsequent studies.  相似文献

Teacher learning about religion has remained an under-researched topic in spite of the professional accountability placed on teachers to teach about religion in a constitutionally permissible and pedagogically sound way. Using data collected from interviews, the purpose of this study is to describe and examine how and what an experienced Non-Muslim teacher of the world’s religions learned about Islam in today’s climate of accountability and negative imagery of Islam. The findings of this study suggest that informal learning through independent reading and interaction with a local Muslim community can be a means to enculturate teachers of world religions into ways of learning about Islam.  相似文献

学术界对湘西宗教的关注较早,在20世纪40-50年代,石启贵、凌纯声等苗族学者系统地整理了湘西宗教的相关资料。经过"文革"时期的沉寂,20世纪80年代涌现出一大批研究成果,主要集中在对宗教仪式环节中的符号分析、对宗教仪式变迁及其功能的考察、对宗教现象的艺术学研究等方面。尽管成果颇丰,还存在不足,在研究对象上多局限于宗教仪式、宗教现象等方面,忽略了宗教文化外化的物质实体——坛庙宫观寺院等宗教建筑;在研究方法上以田野调查、符号分析、历史考证等抽象描述为主,很少使用科学的量化分析研究。因此,有待加强运用量化分析的方法对坛庙宫观寺院等宗教建筑进行研究。  相似文献
