Alice Walker is one of the prominent American writers in American women’s literature and black literature in 1950s-1960s. Everyday Use is regarded as Alice Walker’s best-written short story. The prevailing opinion among the critics about this story is that Dee is the traitor of black American’s cultural heritage, and the mother and Maggie are the hope of true value of the African Americans’ tradition and heritage; however, after considering the historical and cultural background of the story, we may safely come to the conclusion that Dee actually took the first step toward the awakening of self-consciousness of the African Americans women.  相似文献

As narratives are composed of the content encoded and the medium giving concrete shape to them, narratives are inseparably intertwined with temporalities, those of story time and narrative time.In the poem When We Two Parted, there is the co-existence of story time and narrative time. The story time covers three sections depicting separately the past events, the present and the future. They are boiled down into the poem in thirty two lines in total, which gives rise to the variance between duration of story time and duration of narrative time. The durations endow the poem with distinguishable narrative effects.  相似文献

Robert Frost is one of the famous poets of the 20th century American literature who won the Pulitzer Prize for four times. The reason for his popularity is partially because he employs traditional verse form and iambic pentameter pattern in poem writing, but the most important reason for the reputation of his poems lies in the thematic concern of something universal, such as death and life, love and hate, war and peace, the good and the evil, the wisdom of human life and etc. . A brief analysis will be given in the following text about the wisdoms of human life embodied in Robert Frost’s poems from three aspects: 1. Relaxation and responsibility of man. 2. The decisions in life.  相似文献

A Doll’s House and Macbeth obviously belong to different categories in content. However, the two heroines in these two plays, Nora Helmer and Lady Macbeth, demonstrate similar feminist qualities. By staging an overall contrastive analysis on the personality and tragic life of two protagonists from the perspective of feminism, it is founded that both of them are victims oppressed by the patriarchal system and they all have feminine consciousness against this system. Nevertheless, their distinctive complex personalities and different story settings make the reasons for their rebellion differ in many ways and they end up with different endings.  相似文献

In today's China, there exists a self-contradictory fact——on the one hand, China is in short of educational resources, and the average educational level of the total population is fairly low; on the other hand, many graduates are facing difficulties in finding positions or are taking positions requiring lower degree employees, which leads to so-called over-education and intellectual unemployment phenomenon in China. The paper analyzes the nature and causes of the over-education phenomenon. It argues that the present over-education phenomenon in China does not mean the surplus of the total educational amount, but is actually the result of "structural in-equilibrium" of higher education. The underlying reasons can be traced back to the influence of Chinese traditional culture, the existence of binary economic structure, administrative-led educational system, and inflexible market-information transferring system.  相似文献

John Steinbeck(1902-1968) is a famous American novelist. The Chrysanthemums was considered to be one of his finest short stories which has become progressively more influential in gender studies during the following decades. As the protagonist, Elisa unfolds herself in front of the readers about her rebellion and submission to the reigning patriarchal ideology. In the paper, I try to present Elisa’s mind journey in a male-dominating society, using gender studies analysis. The theme of this story is to describe women’s position in a male-centered and controlled culture. In order to give a most justifiable analysis of the theme of this short story, I base my study of Elisa’s mind journey on the prospective of gender studies.  相似文献
