A general approach to knowledge elicitation in interactive learning systems is presented which both improves a knowledge base by removing inconsistencies and extends the representation space for learning. This approach addresses the problem of learning "new terms" with interactive learning systems. Two methods that illustrate this approach are implemented in the learning apprentice system NeoDISCIPLE, using a concept-based representation that is very appropriate for learning. At the same time, the representation facilitates knowledge elicitation associated with human-oriented representations like, for instance, repertory grids. Both methods are consistency-driven in that they elicit knowledge from a human expert in order to remove inconsistencies in the knowledge pieces learned by NeoDISCIPLE. The input to these methods is an inconsistent rule learned by NeoDISCIPLE, together with the examples from which the rule has been learned. The elicitation process is characterized by a guided interaction with the human expert, who is asked to make relevant distinctions pertaining to concepts appearing in the positive and negative examples of the rule. The first method elicits concept properties through a goal-driven property transfer from one concept to another, and the second one elicits concepts using a goal-driven conceptual clustering. In both cases the elicited knowledge is used to improve the inconsistent rule while simultaneously extending the representation space for learning.  相似文献

A wealth of opportunities lie ahead for those willing to apply information handling skillsto general practice. To study the explicit organizational knowledge pattern of an education and research institute is a tedious process as it deals with multiple subjects. Also, many qualitative and quantitative indicators such as peer review process, awards and honors received by the constitute members of the institute, national and international grants, and different types of publications can be considered to study the pattern followed in different disciplines over a period of time. Not all of these indicators will be giving the same message, and the choice of which one to select will depend on the type of research being evaluated. In this study to analyze explicit organizational knowledge, publications of Indian Institute of Science (IISc) in different disciplines over a span of 10 years from 1996 to 2005 are considered as given in the multidisciplinary database SCOPUS using correspondence analysis and cluster analysis.

According to correspondence analysis, the study indicated that publication productivity of IISc is on the rise during the study period and research in Engineering, Agriculture & Biological science, Chemistry and Life sciences is high. Although a cluster analysis is carried out to find out demarcations between row elements and column elements, no useful interpretation could be drawn.

However, this analysis has to be carried out further, by factoring indicators from research input as well as other socio-economic political, and cultural factors affecting the explicit organizational knowledge. Correspondence analysis and cluster analysis highlights what is interesting, and indicates the direction in which further inquiry should be done.  相似文献

Organizational awareness has been viewed as a critical factor in facilitating collaboration and knowledge sharing, particularly among dispersed workers. Drawing on the findings of three studies, we disentangle the complex nature of organizational awareness, with a focus on its role in distributed knowledge sharing. First, we developed and validated an organizational awareness scale to investigate organizational awareness as a multidimensional construct that consists of availability awareness, task awareness, and social awareness. Second, employing the scale, we examined the relationships among organizational awareness, the use of enterprise social media (ESM), and knowledge acquisition in a global organization. The results of structural equation modeling demonstrated that ESM use was positively linked to distributed workers’ task awareness, which subsequently enhanced knowledge acquisition. Lastly, interview findings revealed how task awareness was cultivated by ESM use. Synthesizing the findings, we offer detailed accounts of organizational awareness and its relationships with dispersed workers’ knowledge sharing practice.  相似文献

This study focuses and extends the academic literature on spirituality in organizations. Although spirituality has gained attention in organizational scholarship during the past decade, there has been little systematic development. Current literature on spirituality in organizations is characterized by divergent approaches to spirituality and a number of organizational foci. The present study, based on qualitative field research in a nursing home, advances understanding of spirituality in organizations by identifying three central characteristics of organizational spirituality: value alignment, personal spirituality, and relationship‐based organizing. These central characteristics, supported by the field research and current literature on spirituality in organizations, lead to issues for further research. The study concludes with an invitation for dialogue on the emergent topic of organizational spirituality.  相似文献

It does not seem too risky or bold—at the start of the new century—to assert that digital radio has an uncertain future. The present article analyzes the causes of the failure of DAB (Digital Audio Broadcasting) in Spain using particular current and historical features of the Spanish radio industry to do so (note that Spanish radio falls halfway between the North American commercial model and the European public service model). The opinions of different telecommunications experts, comparisons with other European countries, as well as the defining characteristics of the standard chosen, Eureka 147, better known as DAB, are presented.  相似文献

The contemporary academic library increasingly provides one or more public access computer labs. Students use these labs for word processing, Internet browsing, creating spreadsheets, and other related applications. Providing these types of computer labs in academic libraries is a relatively new development and requires effective management techniques. The purpose of this article is to examine some of the current management concepts, including background, funding, design and implementation, staffing, equipment, software, security and control, and patron relations. Effective management relies on a combination of physical and internal measures as well as a knowledgeable support staff. With the advancement of the Internet and other emerging technologies, the library must strive to maintain its position as a leader in the university environment. This essay is a response to a growing body of literature that is critical of tradition conceptualizations of organizational socialization (Bullis, 1993; Clair, 1996; Smith & Turner, 1995). First, it examines how these critics have failed to adequately appreciate conceptual distinctions made by contemporary socialization and assimilation researchers. While recognizing that these scholars have made contributions, it then points to problems in their critiques. Finally, we argue that the study of organizational assimilation would be enhanced by the use of multiple research perspectives rather than by evaluating one perspective as more appropriate than another.  相似文献
