Japan has long led the trend towards privatization of Research andDevelopment (R&D). With the recent establishment of corporate R&Dfacilities overseas, this has become more international in character. Therelative impoverishment of Japanese academic science has only recently begunto be addressed by the government. Despite the neglect, there appears to bea gradual increase in Japanese academic research, but international researchcollaborations are still quite limited in number. There are growing tieswith industry, but industry has been slow to recognize the value of graduateschool training. Stronger links may promote greater research activity, butwithout reforms to the structure of the education system and Ministry ofEducation policies, Japan will not be prepared to meet the challenge of the21st century, and the need for a highly-skilled, innovative workforce.  相似文献

The aim of this paper is to illustrate the phenomenon of corporate universities from the perspective of the evaluation of their performance. Corporate universities have a hybrid nature that can be referred to both as a business unit and as a higher education institution. Having reviewed the literature on corporate universities and performance evaluation of these kind of entities, we present the results of a survey on Italian corporate universities. Results shows that an appropriate framework for the evaluation of corporate university performance need to distinguish among the different types of corporate universities that are actually in place according to their mission and degree of openness to the external environment.  相似文献

我国教师绩效评估存在着评估内容窄化、对绩效形成机制缺乏深入的归因分析、忽视教师本人的权利救济等问题.不完善的教师绩效评估会产生负面影响:引发教师的不公平感,影响工作热情;诱发教师的失范行为;造成教育资源的浪费;影响受教育者的健康成长.教师绩效评估内容应当兼顾行为和结果,并对绩效结果进行深入的归因分析,同时要保证教师的全程和深度参与.  相似文献

The non-completion rate of university students differs substantially between UK universities. This paper provides estimates of non-completion rates for the 1979 and 1980 entry cohorts into each university and suggests a number of reasons which may have contributed to these inter-university differences. Statistical analysis indicates that a large proportion of the inter-university variation in the non-completion rate can be explained by three main factors: the scholastic ability of each university's new entrants (as reflected by A-level score), the subject mix of each university, and the proportion of each university's students accommodated in a hall of residence. The main conclusion is that inter-university comparisons in the non-completion rate are of little value unless account is taken of differences in the scholastic ability of each university's intake of students.The authors are grateful to the Nuffield Foundation for supporting this research project under its Small Grants Scheme and to the Universities Statistical Record for supplying the data. This article explores the role of gendered academic networks in the context of research evaluation, and women’s lived experiences of UK universities. Gendered power is conceptualised as an important aspect of inequality regimes, providing insight into how men maintain power and how power dynamics and informal networks function, characterised in this article as ‘the hustle’. A case study comprising 80 in-depth, semi-structured qualitative interviews was completed in a UK university. Acker’s theory of inequality regimes informed the central analytical framework, and Bradley’s resource-based theory of power was used to explore the power dynamics in the case study. The findings have resulted in the creation of a conceptual framework which theorises the hybridised nature of inequality, gendered power and organisational lived experience, in which inequality regimes and gendered power interact and are mutually reinforced through informal processes. This article argues, from the findings of the empirical research, that in the context of the neoliberal university, inequality regimes and gendered power interact, and are mutually reinforced through informal processes and networks—‘the hustle’.  相似文献

Evidence of variability in degree results in UK universities from 1973 to1993 is presented for eight subjects. This variability is not random. Thereis a clear tendency in all subjects for certain universities to awardpercentages of Good degrees (i.e. Firsts and Upper Seconds) consistentlyabove or below the corresponding national average. These differences maypartly reflect entry qualifications with universities acceptingbetter-qualified students awarding more Good degrees. Other plausibleexplanations may, however, be offered including institutional differences inteaching and assessment practices and in the definition of class boundaries.It is important, in the context of the current debate about 'standards', totest these explanations by conducting qualitative research within thedepartments responsible for the delivery of teaching and for the assessmentof students.  相似文献
