The Application of Pragmatics in College English Teaching

The teaching of pragmatic knowledge is as important as those grammatical rules.It is very critical for a successful communication.An increasingly large number of English language teachers who possess a special interest in pragmatics begin to adopt the pragmatic teaching which aims at promoting students’communicative competence.In order to improve students’ communicative ability,teachers must pay attention to the importance of pragmatics in teaching process.Only in this way can college students be trained to use language correctly and properly.     

Setting Questions in Class Based on the ＂Wisdom Class＂ Theory

In the process of classroom education, setting questions in class is an important teaching method, which is used in the whole teaching activity and acts as the link between the thoughts of teachers and students. Hence, creating a wisdom class and using according questions to aid the class are of great significance to both students and teachers. In this paper, 40 elementary students from the 9th grade and 10 of their teachers were studied and the result showed that learning requirements facing to the whole class and students＇ learning beliefs are essential principles, and questions should be set by having an exhaustive understanding of the textbook, giving previous homework, creating a thinking atmosphere, and setting a proper difficulty for the students. The proper time to set questions is when the old knowledge and new knowledge of the student conflict in the awareness of the student, when the teacher wants to spread thought, and when the teacher wants to make a conclusion.     

An Initial Study of Improving English Reading Efficiency

Reading,as an important medium for human beings to gain knowledge,also plays a major part in the teaching and learning of English.Nevertheless,in practical teaching,we find that the students are quite at a loss at what to do.This article will probe into how to improve the reading efficiency from two aspects:linguistic factors and non-linguistic factors.     

The Application of TBLT in Oral English Teaching for Children

A Study on English Reading Teaching With Cooperative Learning By Means of Task-Based Teaching in Higher Vocational Education

Higher Vocational Education(HVE) is an important component of higher education in our country.The English Curriculum Standard of HVE considers promoting the students’ reading comprehension as one of the most important goals in English teaching.Task-based CL emphasizes the importance of education as a vehicle for teaching citizens to live cooperatively in a social democracy and teachers are not the only sources of knowledge and students should be able to help each other and learn in an interdependent way.The heart of cooperative learning is student-centered.Therefore,task-based CL can overcome the shortcomings in traditional teaching models,and the goal of improving reading comprehension can be achieved for the teachers of reading by realizing the mental process of reading comprehension and how prior knowledge can enhance a reader’s interaction with the text through CL.This thesis consists of five parts.Part one,two and three briefly introduces the background and significance of the study,definitions and models of cooperative learning and reading comprehension.Part four and five are the key sections of the thesis,which introduces the hypotheses,subjects,instrument,procedure of the study and the analysis of the results of the study.Part five draws the conclusion of the study.     

Exploring Teachers’ Personal Practical Knowledge through Narrative Inquiry——A Case Study on a College English Teacher

Teachers play an important role in the successful implementation of the current curriculum innovation and their personal practi cal knowledge is a decisive factor in their teaching and that teachers’ knowledge affects every aspect of the teaching act.This paper tries to explore teachers’ personal practical knowledge of a college English teacher and her reading class.It shows how to present her teaching contents,design teaching methods and activities in order to accomplish her teaching tasks and teaching goals.The study combines narrative analysis of the reading design with a process inquiry about teaching and learning.Hopefully,the findings would shed some light on teach ers’ professional development.

University students＇ conceptions of good teaching across different faculties

Quality of teaching in higher education has been widely discussed. It clearly underlines the importance of undertaking a multidimensional view about the teaching/learning process as well as involving the main actors of university life according to a participative model, in order to elicit their opinions about important quality issues. Moreover, some studies suggested that the importance of differentiating between the various disciplinary contexts determines which aspects are specific and which are transversal to faculties. On the basis of these assumptions, the aim of this study is to involve the students of various faculties in the identification of what constitutes ＂good teaching＂. Furthermore, the concept of ＂good teaching＂ is strongly linked to teaching evaluation, for this reason, it was considered important to verify differences in the attribution of importance of the various dimensions by students from different faculties, in order to understand if teaching evaluation in the university can take place without distinctions, or whether it should provide methodologies and instruments covering commonalties and differences for each disciplinary area. The results legitimize a complex approach to the issue and a diversified framework of competencies when considering different teaching contexts.     

Implications of Output Hypothesis on College English Writing

With the reform of college English course,the objectives,philosophy and models of Chinese EFL teaching have been deeply changed.So college students are required to have higher language proficiency;it is also a challenge for the English teachers in our country.The traditional teaching mode should be changed.College English teaching is not only to input knowledge to students,but also to foster their skills on the application of knowledge,and excavate their potential in order to promote their language proficiency.Writing,as one of the efficient ways to measure students’comprehensive English ability,has attracted more attention in the field of English researches,which,however,got little improvement so far.What we can see from the requirements is that college students and teachers should put more attention on their output instead of input alone.Therefore,this paper intends to apply Swain’s "Output Hypothesis" to the college English teaching of non-English major students in China,and make some teaching suggestions based on the three functions of the "Output Hypothesis".
