Movie title is the name of a movie which to some extent determines the audience’s choice to watch the movie or not.English movie title,as a special kind of English language,reflects language and culture of the specific English country.To better understand and appreciate the movie,it is essential to understand the cultural elements of the English movie title.The thesis with start with the introduction of movie title and its naming approaches,then analyze the three cultural elements that is historical,religious and linguistic cultural elements in English movie title in the hope of providing helpful background knowledge for Chinese audience to better appreciate the English culture.     

On the Limit of Translatibility from the Perspective of Translation Aesthetics

The limit of translatability is closely related to translation aesthetics since faithful reproduction of the source text’s aes thetic elements in target text is by no means an easy task or even a laborious but fruitless task.Some aesthetic elements of the source text can not be represented in target language due to linguistic and cultural divergences or translator’s incompetence.In that case,there is limit of translatability from the perspective of translation aesthetics.

Preservice teachers＇ use of spatio-visual elements and their level of justification dealing with a geometrical construction problem

The main purpose of this research is to elements and mathematical properties when they are axiomatic structure of the Euclidian geometry forms a determine to what extent preservice teachers use visual dealing with a geometrical construction activity. The coherent field of objects and relations of a theoretical nature; and thus it constitutes a favorable ground for the learning of the reasoning and justification. In geometry, even if the reasoning is assisted by concrete elements such as drawings, it is not based on actions or spatio-visual elements. Arguments based on mathematical properties are required in geometrical reasoning. A successful teaching of the geometry directly depends on the subject knowledge of the teachers. Another purpose is to map out the different kinds of justifications implemented by teachers related to such an activity. Analyses of the responses indicate that a large proportion of preservice teachers use visual elements for their geometrical constructions and they are tended to use naive empiricism concerning their justifications.     

Negative Cultural Transfer in English Teaching and Its Alleviating Principles

Improved simulation method for soil-geogrid interaction of reinforced earth structure in FEM

The interaction between geogrid and soil is crucial for the stability of geogrid-reinforced earth structure. In finite element (FE) analysis, geogrids are usually assumed as beam or truss elements, and the interaction between geogrid and soil is considered as Coulomb friction resistance, which cannot reflect the true stress and displacement developed in the reinforcement. And the traditional Lagrangian elements used to simulate soil always become highly distorted and lose accuracy in high-stress blocks. An improved geogrid model that can produce shear resistance and passive resistance and a soil model using the Eulerian technique, in combination with the coupled Eulerian-Lagrangian (CEL) method, are used to analyze the interaction between geogrid and soil of reinforced foundation test in ABAQUS. The stress in the backfill, resistance of geogrid, and settlement of foundation were computed and the results of analysis agree well with the experimental results. This simulation method is of referential value for FE analysis of reinforced earth structure.     

A Comparative Study of the Origin and Structural Features of Chinese and English Idioms

Idiom is an expression in the usage of a language that is peculiar to itself either grammatically or in having a meaning that cannot be derived from the conjoined meanings of its elements(Merriam-Webster).Idioms are the sediment of their societies and culture.Concise is the main characteristic of idioms.Because of the loan of culture,idioms can express a large amount of meanings by a few words.Idioms come from all aspects of human life.The delicate and compact structure gives birth to the idioms which express the meaning beyond the literal one.Different types of life produce different types of cul-ture;in return,different cultures produce different idi-oms.     

On composite foundation with different vertical reinforcing elements under vertical loading: a physical model testing study

Aphysical model facility was designed, built, and setup for conducting model tests on a composite foundation in a soil ground. The model tests were carried out on a composite foundation with different combinations of vertical reinforcement elements in the same soil ground. Via the analysis of the collected data the characteristics of the composite foundation with different reinforcing elements were obtained, including the characteristics of load-settlement curves, column stresses, stresses of the intercolumn soil, pile-soil stress ratio, and load-sharing ratios of columns and soil. Results from the model tests reveal the mechanism of a composite foundation with different reinforcing elements quantitatively. It is concluded that both a composite foundation with a combination of steel pipe pile and sand column and that with a combination of concrete pile and lime column have a higher bearing capacity than the composite foundation with only sand columns with the same conditions of soil ground and loading. A composite foundation with lime column and sand column embodies no much better performance than that with sand colunms only.

The paper intends to explore the language futures of Chinese recipes from the perspective of Systemic Functional Grammar. Different from previous research made by others, it is written to explore the relationship between the writer and the putative readers. The Mood structure, Modality, the Theme choices, cohesive devices,and transitivity are presented systematically. The embodiment of the functions of the main elements from Systemic Functional Grammar is presented. The major objectives are to discover the Systemic Functional characteristics and help enthusiasts write Chinese recipes in English explicitly. The study finds that to keep the texts concise and easy to follow, Chinese recipes are written with few mood structure. The research finds that Halliday doesn’t count conjunction word or as a way of showing possibilities in category of Modality. Yet it is supposed to be put into this category as well.     

Surface-mounted bender elements for measuring horizontal shear wave velocity of soils

The bender element testing features its in-plane directivity, which allows using bender elements to measure the shear wave velocities in a wider range of in-plane configurations besides the standard tip-to-tip alignment. This paper proposed a novel bender element testing technique for measuring the horizontal shear wave velocity of soils, where the bender elements are surface- mounted and the axes of the source and receiver elements are parallel to each other. The preliminary tests performed on model ground of silica sand showed that, by properly determining the travel distance and time of the shear waves, the surface-mounted bender elements can perform as accurately as the conventional ＂tip-to-tip＂ configuration. Potentially, the present system provides a promising nondestructive tool for characterizing geomaterials and site conditions both in laboratory and in the fields.

And the assumption possesses the testable potential to study policy, assessment, implementation and other allied issues objectively. Many methods of social research and experimental designs are feasible for such study. A pilot study of a biography proves that the study of “similarity” in higher education for quality and assessment is viable and possesses the potential to produce better scholars, can enable the government to improve economy, can help to produce a strong next generation, can positively contribute to strengthen the social institutions and society and above all can bring a positive change in higher education that has been merely claimed for last many years. It is recommended that the proposed “similarity” may be studied in the field of higher education to help the government to formulate and execute policies based on social psychological evidence to enable the executors to best utilize their potential to help the recipients and learners to grow as per their full potential.

A Study of Code-Switching in Students’ Talk in College English Class

Code-switching between English and Chinese usually occurs in students’ talk when they are involved in taking communicative language activities in college English class. This paper studies the situations in which students are likely to use codeswitching and analyzes it from the perspective of the mental world in Verscheren’s Adaptation Theory. It shows that inadequate mastery of English language, cultural differences and the improper adjustment to context may lead to students’ using of codeswitching. It also shows that the use of code-switching in students’ talk adapts to students’ cognitive elements and emotive elements as well.
