The word"language"comes from the Latin(拉丁语)word"lingua",which means"tongue".The tongue is used in more sound combinations(结合)than any other organ(器官)of speech.A broader(概括性的)interpretation(解释)of"language"is that it is any form of expression.This includes(包括)writing,sign(手势)language,dance,music,painting,and mathematics.But the basic(基本的)form of language is speech.

CERTAIN NATIVE LANGUAGE INTERFERENCES IN SECOND LANGUAGE ACQUISITION

Here we refer the native language to Chinese and the second language to English especially college English. According to linguistic study, there are certain native language interferences in secondlanguage acquisition when one is learning the second language,i. e. when a Chinese is learningEnglish, due to the influence of mother tongue which is habitually applied in learning the second language, his pronounciation, his grammar and his vocabulary are quite likely influencedor interfered by his native language or his dialect. Unfortunately, we did find certain first language interferences in our English teaching and learning processes on various items or subjects.

论母语迁移对二语习得的影响

研究表明,母语迁移是影响二语习得的重要因素之一.它分为正迁移和负迁移.正迁移促进外语学习,负迁移则妨碍外语学习.本文通过英汉语对比,探讨了中国学生学习英语过程中母语在语音、语法、词汇、文化习俗等方面的负迁移对英语学习的影响,同时对母语的正迁移现象也做了一定的分析.在此基础上,还得出了母语迁移给外语教学所带来的一些启示.学习者们在今后的二语习得过程中应促进正迁移,避免负迁移,保证语言学习的有效性.     

母语习得的发展程序与外语学习之比较

从母语习得与发展的角度描述儿童习得母语的过程及特点,并对母语习得与外语学习在年龄、认知能力、心理因素、社会因素及母语干扰几方面的异同进行探讨,最后提出母语习得对外语教学的启示。     

STANDARDS FOR FOREIGN LANGUAGE LEARNING

Language and communication are at theheart of the human experience. The United States must educate students who are linguistically and culturally equipped to communicate suc cessfully in a pluralistic American society and abroad. This imperative envisions a future in which ALL students will develop and maintain proficiency in English and at least one other language, modern or classical Children who come to school from on-English backgrounds should also have opportunities to develop further proficiencies in their first language.     

THE BRIGHTON LANGUAGE TEACHING PROJECT

Research at the Language Teaching Research Unit of Brighton Polytechnic has focussed on two questions. The first is the use of CCTV as a catalyst for social interaction and the development of individual communication skills and the second has been the use and effectiveness of broadcast foreign language courses, both for adults and in schools. The first stage of the research of this second focus was a large‐scale national enquiry, backed up by tests, classroom observation and in‐depth interviews. This is now being followed up by two projects, one investigating a postulated need for a support strategy to consolidate the motivation of adult home‐learners, and the other exploring the role of the teacher's expectations and attitudes in his mediation of broadcast material in the school classroom
