Teachers and Teaching: A Contemporary Muslim Understanding

This article appreciates Muhammad () as an educator based on the primary sources of Islam with a view to establish teaching as a sunnah (practice) of Muhammad in particular and of other messengers in general. In so doing it advocates a reconceptualization for prospective and contemporary Muslim teachers. Consequently such a stance then becomes a possible strategy to further promote teaching among Muslims and establishes a model for Muslims to emulate and to internalize universal values he promoted.

The Art of Living and Positive Psychology in Dialogue

Abstract

The idea of happiness boomed in the public as well as in the academic domain over the last decade and has not reached its peak yet. However, the understanding of happiness (understood as eudaimonia) as being the utmost goal of human beings is hardly new. Philosophers have discussed this topic, under various terms, throughout history. One of the most recent philosophical concepts has been conducted by Wilhelm Schmid in his book Philosophie der Lebenskunst [Philosophy of the Art of Living], which is a theory about the good and beautiful life from a modern perspective under consideration of the philosophical history of this topic. Martin Seligman presented the ‘happiness formula’ in his book Authentic Happiness in 2002 and research about happiness, subjective well-being and life satisfaction (among others) began to form the field of positive psychology. This article provides a critical comparative analysis of philosophical concepts of the art of living and positive psychological research from an educational point of view. It will explore the extent of common ground between these disciplines, where they differ, and where they might be complementary.

对话教学是体现新课标"以生为本"理念的一种课堂教学模式。教师角色是影响学生课堂主体地位的重要因素,新课改要求教师角色从传统角色向现代多元化角色转变,但目前中小学教师的角色认同与新课标理念并不一致。对话教学的师生主体间性特征,要求教师重塑课堂角色,教师应成为课堂活动的设计者与参与者、学生学习的启迪者与帮助者、教学过程的推进者与协调者、学生学习活动的指路人与主持人。     

A Shared Place of Discovery and Creativity: Practices of Contemporary Art and Design Pedagogy

This article is based on a project that explored the practices of art and design beginning teachers (BTs) working with learners in a post‐age‐16 context. The aim of the project was to: explore contemporary art and design practices; explore the concept of artist teacher learner researcher; enable beginning teachers to collaborate with post‐age‐16 pupils and develop new approaches and strategies to art and design pedagogy. Through practices that blurred learner‐teacher identities a dialectical pedagogy emerged and a collaborative community of practice developed, all enabled through a renegotiation and reconceptualising of places of learning. The beginning teachers also started to construct their artist teacher identities, understand what it means to practise as an artist teacher in the classroom, understand the impact of these practices on teaching and learning and develop new learning and teaching methods. This project demonstrates the possibilities of these practices for contemporary art and design pedagogy and also how these practices can endure and be sustainable for this community of beginning teachers in the current cultural, social and political contexts of education.

教学方法论不同于教学方法,是研究教学方法与教学对象适切性的问题．教学方法论自觉就是有意识地把这种适切意识渗透到日常教育教学生活之中,并在不断的反思、体悟、师生互动过程中得以内化。为提升教师教学方法论自觉,就需要教师的自身认同和自我完整的实现,需要教师学生立场的价值追求,需要学术共同体的滋养共生,更需要教师扎根实践、坚守立场,在不断的开放、生成过程中形成自我的发展。     

中国当代文学史课程教学整体优化的几点做法——以丽水学院中国当代文学史课程为例

中国当代文学史课程教学要走出困境必须进行教学改革,实现整体优化。在问卷调查的基础上,针对教学对象特点和教学目标要求,通过优化教学大纲、教学内容、教学方法和课程评价方式等,力求实现课程教学的整体优化。     

Conceptions of Teaching Art Held by Secondary School Art Teachers

Research into teachers' conceptions of teaching can be justified in that deep seated beliefs impact upon the way teachers teach and influence the learning approaches of their students. This study examined conceptions of teaching art, through interviews with 18 secondary school art teachers in Hong Kong. The analysis resulted in a two‐level characterisation of conceptions under broad essentialist and contextualist orientations. There were four subordinate conception categories, namely moral development in art and aesthetic development in art under the essentialist orientation, and intellectual development through art, and expression and therapy through art as sub‐categories of the contextualist orientation. The categories were defined and delimited by six dimensions. The categories were seen as clearly distinguishable but related, though not hierarchically. There was no evidence of the category scheme being culturally specific, as the majority of the teachers held beliefs which were not consistent with the traditional manner of Chinese painting.
