Neuroscience in the HBSE Sequence: Mandate and Methodology

Important findings from neuroscience research provide valuable knowledge for social work practice, and although these findings are already being incorporated into practice in many other disciplines, social work has been slow to integrate this content into foundation professional education. This article describes how one social work program incorporated this knowledge into Human Behavior in the Social Environment courses, noting both challenges and successes over 8 years. The authors include information on content, pedagogical methods, and useful resources.

教学反思主要是教师从自己的经历、学生的反馈、同事的评价和理论文献的解读中对自己的信念、知识、教学实践及其背景进行审视。然而,并非所有的反思都是批判性的,只有当反思关注教育权利的分配并从更广泛的视角审视各种教学假定、实践及其背景时才成为批判性反思。教师反思的方法和手段主要有撰写教学日志、建立档案袋、对话和阅读。教学反思的目的在于增加教师的理性自主,使教师对其实践信念和实践的因果决定因素有更多的自我意识,从而使教师处于更多的理性自我控制之下,摆脱外在无形有形的束缚,使教师的成长始终保持一种动态、开放、持续发展的状态。

I Hate Writing: Making a Case for the Creation of Graphic Novels in the Caribbean English Classroom to Develop Students’ Creative Writing Skills

ABSTRACT

Caribbean students are repeatedly engaged in rigid forms of writing to meet the requirements of external exams, which often leads to negative attitudes to writing. With current shifts to multimodal and multi-literate texts to engage students’ multiple literacies in learning, students’ creation of graphic novels in Caribbean English classrooms can enable their engagement in meaningful creative writing. To illustrate this, I draw on my recent experiences with four inner-city boys at a Jamaican high school who showed marked improvement in their attitudes and their creative writing skills after creating graphic novels. The preliminary findings from my research suggest a need for more personalised learning strategies and for more opportunities for students to use their home language in Caribbean classrooms.

Research and the Secondary School Teacher

To one degree or another, inclusion is the word of the day in public schools across the country, and as a result many general education teachers find themselves face-to-face in their classrooms with students who have been diagnosed with behavior disorders (BD). While the behavior of these students is frequently (and euphemistically) referred to as “challenging,” sizeable portions of public school teachers see their presence as little more than a painful problem. Perhaps these teachers simply do not feel up to the challenge and reflexively turn to their coping skills rather than their creativity. Their attitudes can be altered, however, and the educational process can be enhanced for everyone concerned, when universal design for learning (UDL) is adopted as the foundational approach in the classroom. This article makes the case for UDL, and provides a specific illustration of a lesson plan that utilizes UDL.     

土家族民族文字的创制及其思考

文字是记录语言的符号,文字的产生和发展与民族社会的历史密切相关。历史经验表明,一个有文字的民族就有发达的科学文化和高度发展的社会。但是,在人们的语言生活和谐以及交往程度越来越深的当代社会,并不是每一个少数民族都要创制本民族的文字。文章在实地调查的基础上,对土家族文字创制的缘起以及过程进行了概述,并对土家族文字的创制进行了反思。认为任何一种文字的创制和推广都需要科学理论作指导,即根据民族语言文字使用的实际情况和实际需要出发,理性地创制文字并在群众中推广使用。     

Blending Voices: Autoethnography as a Vehicle for Critical Reflection in Social Work

Critical reflection is important to vital process issues within social work practice; thus, it warrants attention in teaching and supervisory contexts. Autoethnography is a newer qualitative research methodology that uses the experiences of the author/researcher to extend social science understanding (Sparkes, 2000). In this article, the authors use autoethnography to frame critical reflection as a process of exploring social work knowledge and its potential implications, given that such knowledge is situated within fragmented and diverse selves and identities. Thus, good autoethnography is a unique way of accessing knowledge within intersubjective realities, which simultaneously generates a form of critical reflection (the comparison and assessment of emergent knowledge situated within selves and identities). Purposely incorporating an autoethnographic strategy, the authors draw from their experiences to show how personal narratives, the core of autoethnography, might be used to infuse critical reflection into social work education and practice.

综合英语课程是英语专业基础阶段的主干课程,理应成为学习者提升思辨能力的主要渠道。学习者的“四层学习身份模型”较好地契合了思辨能力的层级结构特征,能有效促进学习者思辨能力的发展。运用该模型改革和设计英语专业综合英语课程教学,有机调整学习者四层学习身份能力训练,突出学习者文本使用者和文本分析者身份,有意识有目的地提升学生分析、推理和评价为核心的思辨能力。这种教学应尊重学生主体地位,发展学习者自主学习能力;贯穿学科内容主线,促进语言技能与思辨能力共同提高;在教学中注重启发诱导,突出学习者的批判性语言能力的运用。     

高职应用写作课程教学改革的成效与反思

应用写作课程教学改革的研究与实践在课程大纲、教材、教法上取得了较大的阶段性研究成果,且创新强,推广价值大,不但提高了应用写作课程教学的质量,而且促进了学校课程改革的深入发展。文章反思改革的实践经历,深感项目结题后课程的继续改革将面临投入不足及管理滞后的发展瓶颈,建议学校在实训室建设、教师发展、评价方式、学生管理等方面进行综合改革以促进改革的深入发展,为切实提高学生的就业竞争力服务。

英语专业学生的"思辨缺席症"的原因主要体现在学习目标不清、教学方法的误导和知识面狭窄等方面,思辨能力的培养能有效改善英语专业学生的"思辨缺席症"。从设置真实写作任务、注重同伴反馈与讨论和建立写作手册等方面阐述如何培养学生的思辨能力。培养学生的分析能力、思辨能力和解决问题的能力,从而提高英语写作水平。     

关于电大阅读与写作课程实践性教学的反思

对电大远程开放教育条件下如何加强电大小教专业阅读与写作课程的实践性教学进行反思,找出存在的主要问题,并提出相应对策,即导学教师应在不断提高理论修养和写作技能水平的基础上,着力加强案例教学,切实强化网上训练,有效指导社会实践写作,积极鼓励学员踊跃参加写作竞赛和努力发表作品。
