The purpose of this study was to continue the investigation into the cognitive domain of communicative competence (Duran & Kelly, 1984; McCroskey, 1982; Spitzberg, 1983). The relationship between interaction involvement (Cegala, 1981) and communicative adaptability (Duran, 1983), a communicative competence construct, was studied. Canonical correlation analysis produced three significant canonical roots. Root 1 was defined by social confirmation appropriate disclosure, and responsiveness. Root 2 was defined by social composure, social experience, andperceptiveness. Root 3 was defined by social experience, and attentiveness. The theoretical implications of the results as well as suggestions for future research are discussed. 相似文献

This paper investigates the designs of a numver of 32-bit binary adders using four different adder equations implemented in a CMOS technology using CLA and ripple adder schemes. The designs are constrained by factors usually considered by the computer designers in real-world environments, such as ma ximum logic stages allowed for the design of a particular adder, fan-out restrictions, regularity of the design, etc. An extensive comparison of all designs is also reported intended to provide guidelines for the designers of adders. In particular comparisons are made in terms of delay (logic stages and transistors), area (number of gates and transistors), and time area where time is measured in terms of gate and transistor delays and area is measured in terms of number of gates of transistors required for the implementation. 相似文献

Stereotype reduction through humor and accommodation during imagined communication with older adults
Ageism can generate conflict and harm well-being. Our paper integrates the Aging Stereotypes in Interaction model with intergroup contact theory to predict how communicative elements mediate the effect of intergenerational contact on warmth and competence stereotypes of older adults as a group. Students (N?=?288) were randomly assigned to imagine having a conversation with an older adult in one of six experimentally manipulated contact conditions: a competent/incompetent older woman, a sociable/unsociable older woman, or a moral/immoral older woman. Participants’ stereotypes of older adults were affected by the characteristics of their communication partner, and this effect was mediated by specific communication behaviors imagined by the participant for two of the three trait dimensions. For perceptions of competence, overaccommodation was the key mediator. For perceptions of sociability, the key mediator was humorous communication. These mediators represent an expansion in how we understand not just the outcomes of intergroup contact, but also the communicative mechanisms through which it occurs. 相似文献

Relying on the fundamental assumption of violation theories that norm violations stimulate receiver thought processes, we explored receivers' symbolic cognitive processes in response to particular types of norm violations. Specifically, we reasoned that imagined interactions serve as a processing mechanism whereby individuals review the behavior of another, identify the type of norm violation, and make decisions about how to respond-all within their efforts to cope with deviations from norms. Utilizing the classroom context, we examined how teacher norm violations, operationalized as teacher misbehaviors, provoke students' imagined interaction activity. Results revealed that imagined interactions were used in respect to all three types of violations profiled and that participants were significantly more likely to engage in imagined interactions than to interact with or confront norm violators. The results are discussed in terms of implications for extending violation theories to include context-based goal attainment and power differentials between interactants. 相似文献

采用问卷法调查重庆市科技期刊编辑人员职业满意度,以13个因子代表满意度13个维度.结果显示:职业满意度总体评价良好,及格线以上人数占87.5%.按年龄分组统计,青年组得分显著高于其他年龄组;按期刊类型统计,科普类期刊组得分最高,其次是学术类期刊组,而技术类期刊组得分最低;按编辑的学历专业分组,显示文科组和理科组得分显著高于工科组.影响不同类型期刊编辑职业满意度的因素,主要是编辑对刊物发展现状和前景的评价及工作环境、人际关系评价,其次是编辑的年龄、学历和专业. 相似文献

The purpose of this paper is to explore the understanding of e-library usage and e-library acceptance behaviors. In this paper, we use the technology acceptance model (TAM) and flow theory as theoretical frameworks in order to propose a new model for explaining users' intentions to cont'inue using the e-library. The sample for this study consisted of Korean elementary students that use an e-library system (booktobi). Booktobi, which was established in 2005 in Korea, is the earliest and most famous e-library for elementary school students in Korea. The data for this study were gathered in February 2009 by means of a paper-and-pencil survey. In total, 541 students participated in the study, and a total of 395 students completed the survey, resulting in a response rate of 73%. Of the 395 participating students, 192 were male and 203 were female. With respect to age and education, most of the participating subjects were between 11 and 13 years old. The participants had approximately six to seven years of computer and Internet experience and reported spending an average of 1 to 4 hours on the computer and/or Internet every day. In terms of their usage tendencies, 34% of respondents chose gaming, 29% chose chat-rooms, 19% chose Web browsing, 13% chose e-mail, and 5% chose downloading.The results of this study indicate four major findings. First, interface characteristics (in terms of terminology, screen design, and navigation) can indirectly influence the perceived usefulness via the perceived ease of e-library system use. Second, system characteristics (in terms of relevance and system quality) can directly influence the perceived usefulness of e-library systems. Three, system quality can positively influence both perceived usefulness and the perceived ease of e-library system use. Finally, the total influence of the perceived ease of use can be singled out as a primary determinant of behavioral intention. Although smaller in magnitude, the significant effect of system quality on perceived usefulness suggests that by improving the fit between e-library systems and user information needs, we cannot only generate positive perceptions about the usefulness of e-libraries but also about the ease of their use. These findings highlight the importance of e-library system characteristics and, in particular, system quality. 相似文献

This paper investigates eParticipation practices and the mechanisms of influence that help promote changes in public policy formulation. We use the perspective of power as a lens for our investigation. We analyze eParticipation processes in the drafting of three public mobility policies in major Brazilian cities. Based on comparative and retrospective cases, we propose a processual framework for understanding eParticipation practices and the mechanisms used over time to influence decision-making. We show how the actors involved, tools chosen, platform design, interactions on the platform, mediation, and mechanisms used by engaged citizens and the government influence public policymaking. Our study contributes to the literature concerning eParticipation with an original processual framework to explain actors' practices and the mechanisms of influence on policymaking in digital participation spaces. Additionally, we broaden the discussion regarding the complementarity between possession and practice views of power. We argue that a better understanding of the eParticipation platform interactions that influence public policy decisions requires attention to formal authority and critical resource control. However, it is also necessary to recognize the interactions and mechanisms implemented in practice. Our findings are helpful for policymakers seeking to create effective participatory processes while considering citizens' opinions. 相似文献

Previous research indicates that data yielded by the method of ordered alternatives are not suitable for univariate parametric analysis. As an alternative to the measurement of latitudes of rejection, acceptance, and noncommitment by frequencies of rejected, accepted, and unchecked stands on social issues, a scalar distance index is proposed. Under the scalar distance model, a ratio‐scaled map of the alternative stands is derived from multidimensional scale analysis. Latitude of rejection is defined as the absolute difference of the distance from the subject's own position to the rejected stand. A FORTRAN IV program, LATSCAL, is available to compute scalar distance measures of the three latitudes. 相似文献
