爱、理性与正义－“9·11事件”引起的思考

恐怖主义的一个重要特征就是思想的狂热与偏执.这种思想的形成是广义教育的结果,即整个社会环境对人心的综合性作用.因此,我们应该营造一种充满"爱"的大环境,并引导人们进行"爱"的升华,从"喜爱"、"性爱"到"仁爱",最后教育人们用"理性"的头脑和正义的思想来规范自己的行为.

Navigating unfreedoms & re-imagining ethical counter-conducts: Caring about refugees & asylum seekers

This article uses Foucault’s concept of the care of the self to interrogate the accounts of ethical agency provided by professionals involved in the settlement of refugees, in a global and national context marked by fear of the stranger and the embrace of neoliberal political rationalities. An argument is made to ‘free the professional self’ by refusing an individualised, psychologised and dehistoricised approach in working with refugees and asylum seekers. In its place, a threefold ‘ethics of engagement’ for ‘international citizenship’ is proposed as a way forward to further professionalism and civic action. By understanding the refugee problem as an ‘integral part of North-South relations’ rather than as a ‘Third World’ problem, new possibilities are opened for an ethics of civility and an ethics of care.     

The secret between storytelling and retelling: tea,school, & narrative

In this paper, I will tell two of my personal stories to try to explore the secret or opaque space between the original telling and retelling of stories in narrative inquiry. Based upon my difficult struggles with the two stories of tea, school, and narrative, I suggest that narrative inquiry has to be a complex loop of relationship, reflexivity, responsibility, and recursion.     

Design & Technology: New Directions

The Design and Technology Working Group appointed to advise the Secretary of State on design and technology, and on information technology for ages five to 16 reported in May. The joint comments of the Secretaries of State and the report of the Design and Technology Working Group together form the formal proposals for attainment targets and programmes of study published in June. Phillip Rodbard, associate lecturer in education, Brunel University, and in-service trainer on CDT and special educational needs, discusses the report, on which views need to reach the National Curriculum Council by September 22.
