不作无补之功不为无益之事——南京市档案学会工作侧记

在不久前揭晓的“南京市第六次哲学社会科学优秀论文评选”及“江苏省档案学优秀论文评比”活动中 ,南京市档案学会取得了骄人的成绩。这是对学会３年工作的回报 ,更体现了学会工作的思路 ,实现了学会工作目标。在此 ,我们认真总结和思考 ,谈谈我们的认识和体会。南京市档案学会是一个成立较早的专业学术团体 ,曾经辉煌过 ,会员最多时达５６０人之多。到９０年代后期 ,由于诸多原因 ,各种学术交流、研讨活动已基本停止 ,已只是形式上的机构。１９９９年初 ,新一届学会领导人产生 ,大家统一思想 ,调整思路 ,对学会工作的性质、任务、目标重新…     

When in Rome,Do as the Romans Do: A Comparative Analysis of Chinese and American New Teachers' Compliance-Gaining Strategies

The exchange of information and of member preferences are two different avenues for social influence during group discussion with potentially differing implications. The goal of the study was to evaluate the impact of three factors proposed to influence the relative proportion of preference and reason statements during group problem-solving discussion. As hypothesized, groups beginning in consensus discussed relatively more preferences than groups beginning in disagreement. Contrary to expectation, judgmental and intellective tasks did not differ in proportions of preference and reason statements. Opposite of prediction, the opportunity to form a pre-discussion preference resulted in a smaller proportion of preference statements than the absence of this opportunity.     

Winning Is(n't) Everything: The Paradox of Excellence and the Challenge of Organizational Epideictic

Encompassing both the controlled messages of values advocacy and less explicit rhetorical actions such as philanthropy, community programs, and volunteerism, organizational epideictic affirms common values. This essay argues that such common values are problematized by the presence of paradox even in seemingly innocuous epideictic subjects. Through a case study of the National Collegiate Athletic Association's “Stay in Bounds” program teaching children to be good sports both on and off the field, the essay demonstrates the challenges of organizational epideictic through the paradox of excellence. It also provides suggestions for the management—but not elimination—of paradox in organizational epideictic, particularly directed at external publics.

安德烈亚斯·赫普:我们生活在“万物媒介化”的时代——媒介化理论的内涵、方法与前景

本文通过深度访谈,对欧洲知名媒介研究学者、媒介化理论的奠基人安德烈亚斯·赫普的学术思想与研究实践进行深入考察,并尝试就媒介化理论的核心观点展开深入探讨。在赫普看来,媒介化研究作为一种历史元进程,始终对各种正在发生的各种变革保持开放态度,并期望对复杂的社会现象进行清晰的理论化;通过对"型态"与"构造"、"社群"与"集体"等核心概念的区分,媒介化理论创造了一种理解社会结构的话语体系。此外,赫普也回应了媒介化理论所面对的"决定论"批评,指出"语境"在媒介化研究中的重要性。     

They Will Use It,If You Buy It!: Results of an Expanded Survey on the Use of Classification Web

This article presents the results of a survey examining the extent to which working catalogers use Classification Web, the Library of Congress’ online resource for subject heading and classification documentation. An earlier survey analyzed Class Web's usefulness on an institutional level. This broader survey expands on that analysis and provides information on such questions as: What types of institutions subscribe to Class Web? What are the reasons for using Class Web when performing original or copy cataloging? and What other resources do catalogers use for classification/subject heading analysis?

Every Step You Change: A Process of Change and Ongoing Management

ABSTRACT

Established services have the benefit of experienced and knowledgeable staff, confirmed money streams, designated space and resources, and recognized links to users and stakeholders. So when change needs to happen, it requires a great deal of patience, skill, and an unwavering belief in a better future. After more than 30 years operating in a large academic institution, a distance education (DE) library service needed change. Services needed to be added, resources needed to be improved, and overall processes needed to be streamlined and upgraded. This article will reveal the dramatic changes that occurred over the span of 6 months to change this service from an office literally drowning in paper with a “this-is-the-way-we've-always-done-things” orientation to a new paperless service with a Web-based request, monitoring, and statistical tracking system. Screen shots demonstrate how staff track requests and keep separate records for library and distance education departmental reporting purposes.     

A Citation Study of American Literature:

A total of 7,149 references appearing in 253 source items (including books, book artiles, journal articles, and dissertations) in the field of American literature were analyzed. From the analysis lists of the most frequently cited periodical titles and book titles (both primary and secondary) were formulated. Since such a large number of titles is cited, the lists reveal relatively small clusters of frequently-cited materials and do not identify fringe areas. The results do point to areas for retrospective development of collections and indicate possibilities for cooperative collection and study of citation data.     

Who You Know in Hollywood: A Network Analysis of Television Writers

“It’s who you know, not what you know,” is a familiar phrase—often repeated by professionals in Hollywood. The present study focuses on “who knows who” among Hollywood television writers. Using network analysis, this exploratory study identifies the degree of centralization and types of connections found in this elite writers’ network. Results show a great deal of collaboration in the network, and while male writers are more connected overall in Hollywood, women are more likely to be brokers—a structurally advantageous position. The authors provide explanations for collaboration patterns, especially with regard to gender differences in network roles, and propose avenues for further research.

在社交媒体的时代,市场化传统媒体遭遇到的最根本危机源自原有盈利模式——二次销售模式的坍塌.因为社交媒体消解了公众和广告主对新闻媒体产品的购买意愿.而主营新闻的新媒体也同样面对缺乏稳定盈利模式的困境.通过改变对新闻价值的认识和创制原生广告,BuzzFeed仍然能够在二次销售模式中获得迅速的增长.然而,用户趣味的快速变化和原生广告制作的复杂过程仍然考验着盈利模式的稳定性.更值得反思的是,BuzzFeed可以创造出一种新的媒体盈利模式,但它可能无法复制原有新闻业的社会功能.

按量付费(PPV)作为辅助性期刊采购方法,近几年迅速应用于美国大学图书馆.该文通过分析以往期刊采购的方法以及催生这种新型期刊采购模式的原因及技术环境,以美国几所大学图书馆的实践为例,研究按量付费期刊采购的工作流程及可能出现的问题,冀此对国内大学图书馆的期刊采购工作有所启示.     

抵制美货:100年前的华洋冲撞

2010年10月,洛杉矶著名脱口秀演员罗素·皮特斯（Russell Peters）,在他的新节目中,加入了这样一个桥段——说他在上海某商场买鞋子,因为柜台里找不出适合他脚的鞋子尺寸,于是提出这样一个问题：“怎么会,全世界的鞋子不都是你们中国制造的吗？”引得现场观众哄堂大笑。显然,他的这段调侃,恰好印证了中国商品在美国人心目中的形象。

勿忽视高校图书馆首要职责:“Buyer”——从美国高校教师的视角谈起

现今高校图书馆存在不根据自身实际情况盲目追求信息延伸服务(如学科服务),希望能在教研中担任重要的信息服务角色,但往往忽视了从教研人员角度审视在他们心目中最希望图书馆承担什么样的信息服务角色。本文根据美国对高校教研人员的调研结果提出,高校图书馆首先必须要担当好"Buyer"(采访者)的角色,严把采访关,高度重视成本效益,并在此基础上,若有足够的实力,图书馆才可进行延伸性服务。
