Information Literacy Programs

Summary

With the rapid advances in information technology, the proliferation of information resources and formats, and the increasing complexities of access and evaluation, libraries recognize the necessity for a dynamic information literacy program that will address the needs of all categories of users. University faculty constitute one group of users to which the systemic college library increasingly endeavors to extend and market its services and programs, including its information literacy training workshops. A consideration of this library/classroom faculty relationship in the context of the adult education literature, as well as successful models that have been employed in this effort, provide insight on ways in which the library can successfully accomplish its information literacy training objectives among this group.     

Library-Led Faculty Workshops: Helping Distance Educators Meet Information Literacy Goals in the Online Classroom

ABSTRACT

At University of Maryland University College (UMUC), librarians have designed and led a number of multiday, asynchronous online workshops for faculty. The workshops teach faculty how to meet information literacy goals in the virtual classroom. Through hands-on activities and discussion among their colleagues, participants in the faculty workshops learn about the university's information literacy standards, library resources and services, free Web tools, and how best to design class assignments involving library research. Library-led faculty workshops at UMUC have increased library visibility and furthered collaboration between faculty and librarians. This article discusses 5 workshops, detailing workshop content and logistics and demonstrating how librarians can help distance faculty further information literacy goals for students.

文章以信息素养标准和研究模型为基础，针对数字参考服务的特点，探讨了信息素养与数字参考服务的关系，提出了一个适用于数字参考服务信息素养分析的模型，并结合实例对该模型的应用做了说明。

本文建立了图书馆员与教师的合作模型，并在此基础上，提出了基于图书馆员一教师合作的信息素养教学模型。     

论信息素质教育管理模式

基于信息素质教育的管理具有现实意义,结合目前我国信息素质教育存在的问题和不足,提出信息素质教育模式,在此基础上构建出一个由主体管理、内容规划管理和制度规划管理等构成的高校图书馆信息素质教育管理模式,以完善高校信息素质教育体系,提高大学生的信息能力。     

信息素养及相关概念的学术梳理

自20世纪70年代中期以来,信息素养研究逐渐成为图书馆学界的热门课题并产生了广泛而深刻的影响.文章对与信息素养密切相关的核心概念做一梳理和辨析,以求界定它们之间的区别,找出它们之间的联系,从而推动这一领域的进一步研究.     

Collaboration and Information Literacy

Abstract

The National University Library Information Literacy Plan has been in place since 1999. Following a slow start, information literacy has begun to be accepted throughout the University. Faculty collaboration, dogged determination of librarians, and impressive assessment results have helped pave the way for this program. In this paper, a program overview will be briefly discussed followed by the National University LIC Librarians (virtual librarians at the regional learning centers) discussing faculty collaboration efforts, a University core curriculum class on information literacy, and information literacy assessment.     

Information Literacy for GIS Curricula

Abstract

Undergraduate GIS courses, regardless of parent department, frequently follow similar formats culminating with long-term, self-directed ‘capstone’ projects. Instructors usually acquire data for students, rather than having the students search for information from online repositories or campus libraries. While on the library side of life, librarian-led classroom sessions are unsatisfying for students and librarians, chiefly due to a lack of connection to important research-based assignments. A model is presented herein to train instructors to include information literacy components into courses, thereby increasing students' ability to work independently.

本文主要论述了美国高校信息素质教育研究的一个重要方面－－美国高等教育信息素质标准问题，对该标准提出的历史背景、标准的内容和特点进行了明确而又精炼的分析和论述，为促进我国高校信息素质教育的发展提供理论依据。

信息时代，科研人员的信息素质已成为影响我国科学界研究和创新能力乃至国家的综合国力和国际竞争力的一个主要因素。本文基于实际调查走访中得到的一些数据，分析了我国科研人员信息素质水平现状，阐述了对科研人员进行信息素质教育的必要性，并探讨了具体的教育目标、教育内容和方式。     

天津市民信息素养现状调查研究

本文通过对天津市民信息意识、获取渠道、筛选、评价、组织、创新以及信息法律等方面抽样调查,对市民信息素养的现状进行评价,以期能更好的提升公民的综合素质。     

信息素养与文献利用

文献的情报价值有显在的，还有潜藏的，需要读者从广度和深度两方面开掘与利用。影响文献利用的主观因素是读者的信息素养，包括情报意识和情报技能两方面，综合体现为情报接受能力。在一定的文献信息保障条件下，读者的情报接受能力对文献利用率起决定性作用，因而必须强化读者的信息素养。以强化读者在文献利用中的自主能力。

考虑到不同学科的差异性以及评估的可操作性,基于学科的信息素质评价标准研究逐渐成为关注的热点。本文简要概述了制定学科信息素质评价标准的必要性,介绍了国外分学科的信息素质评价标准的研究进展及主要特点,提出我国应成立专门机构全面指导和规划我国信息素质评价标准的制定,应与各专业学会/协会或教育部专业学科指导委员会合作,在统一的通用信息素质评价标准基础上建立学科信息素质评价标准,并将其与大学生的培养目标相结合。

文章以信息素质的定义、内涵和标准为基础，介绍了国内外信息素质教育理论研究与实践进行的情况。     

我国信息素质教育研究的现状与建议

本文基于中国知网对我国产出的4951篇信息素质教育(信息素养教育)论文进行文献计量学分析,探讨了信息素质教育中存在的问题,提出了信息素质教育发展的一些建议。     

Tying Television Comedies to Information Literacy: A Mixed-Methods Investigation

Many components of Information Literacy (IL) are too massive to be addressed in a single instruction session, yet an introduction to these concepts is essential for students' academic careers and intellectual development. This study evaluates the impact of applying excerpts from television comedies that illustrate ACRL's Information Literacy Competency Standards for Higher Education to library instruction sessions for first-year students. Pre- and posttest results from 193 subjects and interview data from two focus groups indicate that television comedies can be integrated into one-shot instruction sessions to demonstrate IL concepts in an accessible and dialogue-provoking manner.     

The Application of Learning Theory to Information Literacy

ABSTRACT

Many colleges and universities are advocating information literacy within their mission statements. To this end, many librarians are offering for-credit courses that incorporate the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) Information Literacy Competency Standards in their instructional programs. In their role as instructors, librarians should be familiar with learning theory, in particular behaviorism and constructivism. The application of a particular learning theory dictates the structure of the course and reinforces the role of librarian as educator.
