At the same time, the blended learning approach to course delivery has gained in popularity, promising better learning with flexible modalities and pace. Abstract

Mathematics has a unique and powerful role to play in the teaching of social justice issues. There is substantial quantitative evidence for social injustice, but many citizens lack the quantitative skills to understand that evidence. A course in quantitative literacy is a unique opportunity to provide this quantitative understanding to a wide range of students in a general education context. Quantitative literacy skills provide citizens with the tools they need to critically analyze misinformation and make good decisions about civic issues.  相似文献

Abstract

The authors have completed a 2-year quasi-experimental study on the use of inquiry-based learning (IBL) in precalculus. This study included six traditional lecture-style courses and seven modified Moore method courses taught by three instructors. Both quantitative and qualitative analyses were used to investigate the attitudes and beliefs of the students in each section. In this article, we provide a summary of those results with a particular focus on the Openness to IBL survey we developed for assessing student preferences for either student-centered or teacher-centered instruction. Although the majority of the students exhibited a strong preference for direct instruction, students whose scores favored student-centered approaches according to the survey also tended to perform better on the final exam, indicating that a key element to success in an IBL course may be students’ perceptions of the method.  相似文献

当前社会城市化进程的加快,越来越多孩子已经远离大自然,孩子在室内由于过度保护和应试压力,天性得不到释放。本文主要以广西南宁的户森校园作为研究对象,以领导力为相关理论基础,通过随机抽样进行个案描述分析探讨教师扮演的角色以及如何在户外自然环境中支持孩子的探究式学习,最后指出以询问为基础的方法切入孩子的认识边缘,可以引发孩子进行长时间的深度探索,有利于这个年龄段孩子在各方面的全面发展。  相似文献

目的:探讨非言语学习困难青少年二维空间和非空间关系推理策略。方法:从初中二年级选取三组被试:非言语学习困难组(简称NLD)、言语学习困难组(简称VLD)和一般组(简称C)。结果:(1)NLD组空间关系推理成绩显著低于一般组;(2)在空间关系推理中,两类单模题推理成绩显著高于双模题。在非空间关系推理中,有无关前提的题推理成绩显著高于没有无关前提的题;(3)一般组正确运用模型建构策略显著高于NLD和VLD组。结论:NLD青少年通过建构模型解决空间关系推理,但不能有效运用该策略,非空间关系推理则采用逻辑规则策略。  相似文献

探究式教学是针对传统注入式教学存在的弊端而提出的。化学理论性知识探究式教学必须结合其所具有的概括性、抽象性和较强的逻辑性与严密性等知识特点展开。首先教师要创设一定的问题情境引发学生的认知冲突,从而激活知识的意义;其次,教师要设计一定的探究活动,帮助学生转变原有的认知,从而使学生体验知识建构的过程;再次,教师要组织学生开展有效的交流与讨论,引导学生阐明解释自己的观点,从而形成学生之间知识的有意义互动;最后,教师要及时开展评价与总结,引导学生反思完善新的知识,从而进一步转变观念。  相似文献

Abstract

This article shares an example of a course in Combinatorics, taught at Adelphi University in Fall 2012, designed with a primary goal of engaging students in pursuing mathematics as mathematicians do. The course went beyond usual applications of inquiry-based learning in that students were also charged with the responsibility of posing the mathematical statements that would be examined as part of the course. In this way, students decided what was interesting to study and were responsible for the creation of mathematics within their classroom community.

This article looks at the syllabus policies for the course, describes some of the work that students did as part of the course, and reflects upon the outcomes of the course.  相似文献

发展学生的归纳推理能力是数学课程的重要目标.初中生数学归纳推理的发展状况为:信息表征的类型随着知识量的增加而增加;归纳猜想随年级的升高而呈现缓慢增长趋势;假设检验随年级的增长并不显著;归纳推理与演绎推理在各年级中的发展不均衡.因此,在教学中加强归纳推理的教育与心理研究是十分必要也是刻不容缓的.  相似文献

Inquiry-based instruction has become a hallmark of science education and increasingly of integrated content areas, including science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education. Because inquiry-based instruction very clearly contains surface, deep, and implicit structures as well as engages students to think and act like scientists, it is considered a signature pedagogy of science education. In this article the authors discuss the nature of scaffolded inquiry-based instruction and how it can be applied to the use of emerging technologies, such as data mashups and cloud computing, so that students not only learn the content of STEM, but can also begin answering the critical socioscientific questions that face the modern era.  相似文献

The authors argue that skills in quantitative literacy (QL) and quantitative reasoning (QR) augment students’ communicative effectiveness. This article offers a pedagogical framework and model for how QR can be productively interwoven with the rhetorical know-how of technical writing pedagogy. This paper explores a case study of a class of Year 10 students (n=24) whose learning of genetics involved activities of BioLogica, a computer program that features multiple external representations (MERs). MERs can be verbal/textual, visual-graphical, or in other formats. Researchers claim that the functions of MERs in supporting student learning are to complement information or processes, to constrain the interpretation of abstract concepts, and to construct new viable conceptions. Over decades, research has shown that genetics remains linguistically and conceptually difficult for high school students. This case study using data from multiple sources enabled students' development of genetics reasoning to be interpreted from an epistemological perspective. Pretest-posttest comparison after six weeks showed that most of the students (n=20) had improved their genetics reasoning but only for easier reasoning types. Findings indicated that the MERs in BioLogica contributed to students' development of genetics reasoning by engendering their motivation and interest but only when students were mindful in their learning. Based on triangulation of data from multiple sources, MERs in BioLogica appeared to support learning largely by constraining students' interpretation of phenomena of genetics.  相似文献
