Resolutely carrying out Chairman Mao's instructions on the proletarian revolution in education, the poor and lower-middle peasants of the Layaotzu, Sungshukou, and Waisantaokou production brigades of the Aihui people's commune in Aihui County (Heilungkiang Province) entered the schools in November last year, seizing back the power in education in rural areas and smashing complete domination of the schools by bourgeois intellectuals. The poor and lower-middle peasants are masters of culture; they have become the main force in the proletarian revolution in education in the rural areas. They have carried out the recent instruction issued by our great leader Chairman Mao: "In the countryside, schools and colleges should be managed by the poor and lower-middle peasants - the most reliable ally of the working class."     

How Should "May 7" Cadre Schools Give Prominence to Proletarian Politics?

In response to our great leader Chairman Mao's call to "send the masses of cadres to do manual labor," we left the city and our offices to enter the "May 7" Labor School in January this year. For more than seven months, we abided by Chairman Mao's brilliant "May 7 Directive" and persisted in giving prominence to proletarian politics in productive labor. We perseveringly put production under the command of politics and enhanced the revolutionization of the students' ideology. From practice, we are deeply convinced that in order to run "May 7" cadre schools well, we must adhere to the basic direction of giving prominence to proletarian politics. Only in this way can we guarantee that the cadre school will march triumphantly along the road of the "May 7 Directive" without losing its bearings in fog or storm.     

An Overview of Environmental Education in Middle School Natural Science Courses

Spurred by the movement to criticize Lin Piao and Confucius, our college has committed itself to implementing Chairman Mao's instruction that "new China must care for her youth and show concern for the growth of the younger generation" and that "the focus of medical and public health work should be shifted to the countryside." Under the unified leadership of the Shanghai Municipal Party Committee, we have conducted, since 1974, a correspondence course on "Prevention and Cure of Common Diseases in Rural Areas" in Fu-yang District of Anhwei Province. Led directly by the Party committee of our college, we strove to combine correspondence education in medical science with public health reform in rural areas and associate the revolution in education with the revolution in health work. With the participation of clinical personnel and teachers of basic medical science, we formed a "Medical Treatment and Teaching Team" [i chiao tui], a traveling medical unit which also runs correspondence medical courses. Experience over the last year has proved that combining correspondence education and medical treatment is a rather effective approach.     

湘西南农村中学“阳光体育运动”开展困境及破解

采用文献资料法、访谈法、问卷调查法和数理统计法等方法,对湘西南农村中学开展阳光体育运动的情况进行调查研究.针对湘西南农村中学"阳光体育运动"开展存在场地设施缺乏和师资力量不足、内容形式单一、活动时间没有保障的现状,结合"阳光体育运动"的宗旨,提出了"阳光体育运动"在湘西南农村中学开展的新思路.

The discussion on how to run "May 7" cadre schools well, which was initiated by Jen-min jih-pao, is necessary and well timed. We sincerely welcome and support it. We also have some preliminary experience and ideas about this problem. We would like to mention some of them for the discussion.

中国大学生体育协会龙狮分会正在大力倡导全国百校龙狮进课堂,在此前提下笔者调查发现,在湖南省普通高校中存在以下特点:开展龙狮运动的学校数量少,主要集中在设置了体育专业的普通高校;龙狮运动的参与者主要是体育专业的学生;主要参加"中国大学生体育协会龙狮分会"这一协会组织;主要以课程教学和运动训练的形式开展龙狮运动,其经费来源主要是学校拨款和进行有偿表演.     

Remember to Consider the Varying Needs of Different Students

Many "May 7" cadre schools are now studying the question of apportioning the amount of time to be spent on study and on labor. I believe that in resolving this question they should consider the differing needs of each student.

Hunan Province Overhauls Primary and Secondary School Teaching Guidance Materials

Just before schools began in the spring, more than seventy varieties of teaching guidance materials and educational readers have been dropped from the list of school books for the secondary and elementary school phase of compulsory education in Hunan Province. Looking for a New Road for the Thorough Implementation of Quality Education

Recently a study group under the leadership of Professor Cheng Hejun of Hunan Normal University completed an experimental study on "The Integrated Course of Study and Psychological Quality Development," which is a key item of ther State Education Commission's Eighth Five-Year Plan in educational science.
