幻象?现实?——《蝴蝶君》之析(英文)

该文运用EdwardSaid的刻板东方主义的观点,论述黄哲伦在《蝴蝶君》中如何成功颠覆了对东方女性和西方男性关系的刻板印象。白人绅士伽利默一生追求想象中的如蝴蝶夫人般的完美东方女性,为此幻想而生,又为此幻想而死。极具讽刺意义的是,他到死才认识到,真正的蝴蝶夫人不是他幻想中的宋丽玲,而是现实中的自己。     

死于幻想？或是死于清醒？——论《蝴蝶君》伽里玛之死

《蝴蝶君》是黄哲伦(David Henry Hwang)对普契尼(Giacomo Puccini)歌剧《蝴蝶夫人》的"逆写",颠覆了西方对东方的模式化观念。西方男子伽里玛爱上东方"女子"宋丽玲,二十年后发现自己才是真正的"蝴蝶夫人",而后在监狱中自杀。运用东方主义话语理论分析伽里玛之死,揭示伽里玛死亡的原因不仅在于他的东方幻想,也在于他清醒的认识到他和"蝴蝶夫人"一样的"女性"以及"他者"身份。     

东方女性形象在《蝴蝶夫人》和《蝴蝶君》中的构建与颠覆

文学作为文化的重要组成部分,很大程度地影响着人们的思想。本文以东方主义为理论基础,将《蝴蝶夫人》中的传统东方女性形象和《蝴蝶君》中颠覆性的东方女性形象进行对比,探讨西方人“蝴蝶情结”的产生与幻灭。以期通过分析比较东方女性形象在西方作家和华裔作家作品中的不同呈现,构建客观的东方女性形象。     

东方主义的解构——论《蝴蝶君》的文化内涵

东方主义的实质是西优东劣的区分。美国华裔剧作家黄哲伦创作的《蝴蝶君》将普西尼《蝴蝶夫人》一剧中所隐含的性别关系、东西方关系以及殉情方式均颠倒过来,对东方主义的完全解构——不仅解构了西方男子脑海中作为东方女子典型的蝴蝶夫人的刻板印象,而且也颠倒了原有的东西方权力关系,成为与西方中心主义相对立的他者的声音。

刻板印象（stereotype）指的是个人受社会影响而对某些人或事持稳定不变的看法。刻板印象在初期对人们快速认识事物有帮助,但过于简单机械的分类,长此以往难免形成一种偏见,从而影响人们正常的价值判断。《菊子夫人》是“蝴蝶”形象的源头,《蝴蝶夫人》塑造出了经典的“蝴蝶”形象,《蝴蝶君》又与前两者产生鲜明对立。本文试图通过分析这一系列“蝴蝶”形象对东方主义的解构,探讨及其演变背后文学创作价值取向的转变。     

有意识的解构和无意识的建构——东方主义语境中的《蝴蝶君》

从东方主义的角度看,《蝴蝶君》对东方女性刻板化印象的解构具有重要意义。在"东方主义"无意识地影响下,身为华裔作家的黄哲伦还是没有能够摆脱对"东方主义"的暗合,或者说建构。东方主义所特有的字典编纂式和制度化的强化效果,使黄哲伦的个人思考无法摆脱东方主义的知识机制,因此他的剧作有东方主义的痕迹甚至在某些方面无意识地建构了"东方主义"。
