Government and Bank Collaborate to Support Cultural Industries
On March 10, the Ministry of Culture of China （MOC） and the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China （ICBC） signed a strategic cooperation agreement in supporting cultural industries. Cultural Minister Cai Wu and ICBC Chairman Jiang Jianqing attended the signing ceremony. According to this agreement, MOC and ICBC will abide by the principle of＂conducting long-term cooperation, supplementing each other＇s advantages and promoting common development＂ in order to encourage the development of cultural industries of China.     

Monuments Attesting to the History of China-Japan Friendship

The Monument to Premier Zhou Enlai in Arashiyama, the Monument to Lu Xun in Sendal, the Japan-China Friendship Monument, the Monument to the Japan-China Treaty of Peace and Friendship. . .all these Japanese monuments have close connection with Chinese politics, history and culture and attest to the history of friendship between Chinese and Japanese people. Design Capital, Smart City Beijing Design Week 2013

Beijing Design Week 2013 （BJDW） took place from September 26 through to the Golden P Week until October 3, 2013. The third editionof BJDW is jointly hosted by the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Culture and Beijing Municipal Government, and co-organized by Beijing Gehua Cultural Development Group and Beijing Industrial Design Center.With the theme of＂design capital, smart city＂, BJDW featured a series of creative and inspiring events, including the Opening Series, the Design Award competition, the thematic exhibitions, the Design Class, the Guest City of Amsterdam, the Journey of Design and Design Season, etc. Altogether, 260 events and activities were held during BJDW, from exhibitions to lectures, from annual sessions to trade fairs, from receptions to experience workshops.     

13th World Olympic Collectors＇ Fair opens in Beijing OLYMPIC COLLECTORS＇ RENDEZVOUS

Fans and collectors of Olympics-related souvenirs such as coins and stamps flocked to the 13th World Olympic Collectors＇ Fair which took place from June 22 to 28. Visitors from numerous countries attended the six-day fair which showcases more than a century of treasures representing the various stages of the Olympic movement.Collectors from across the world brought their collections to Beijing to exchange with Chinese collectors and to show to Chinese people the greatness of the Olympic collectors＇ family. Items shown at the fair include Olympic torches, trophies and athlete suits,as well as pins, coins, stamps and other items bearing the Olympic rings. It is the first time the fair has been held in China and it has opened free to public visitors.

AN EMBASSY TO CHINA

From 1419 to 1422, a large diplomatic mission consisting of 510 persons and dispatched by Timurid King Shahruh Bahadur paid a visit to the Ming Empire. The delegation member and painter recorded in his diary traditions and customs he saw along his journey and politics, economy, traditions and people of the Ming Dynasty. These notes were later compiled as “An Embassy to China”, which is now referred to as an important historical record for the study of cultural exchange between Central Asia and China of the time. The author, based on this literary work, reviewed that part of history on friendly exchange between China and lran.

＂Painting of Farming and Weaving＂： a Panoramic Portrayal of the Agricultural Society of Ancient China

Ancient China was an agricultural society where all capable emperors paid much attention to farming and ,weaving activities, Artistic creations depicting farming and weaving scenes can date back to the Neolithic Age. A bronze bottle from the Warring States period （475 BC - 221 BC） features hunting and planting scenes. Bronze wares of the pre-Qin period, painted relief bricks of the Han Dynasty, tomb murals of the Wei-and-Jin period and grotto paintings of the Tang and Song dynasties, all recorded farming, planting and weaving scenes of the agricultural society of ancient China. In the Southern Song Dynasty, in particular, thanks to its highly developed agriculture, a painter named Lou Shu created a piece of ink painting, entitled ＂Farming and Weaving Painting＂, reviewing agricultural skills and approaches of previous dynasties.     

BEIJING＇S SHADOW PLAY： A HISTORICAL REVIEW

Beijing＇s shadow play can date back to the Jin Dynasty. In 1127, Jin troops conctuered inland China and captured the emperor of the Noffhem Song Dynasty and other members of the royal family, They also looted numerous treasures of the court collection and brought many artisans back to the capitol of the Jin Empite （present-day Beijing）, including showmen and artisans In shadow play. Light Shines on the Universe Exhibition of Buddhist Art along the Silk Road

In the end of the 19th Century, Richthofen, a German geographer coined the term Silk Road that refers to the route from China toRome.Then in the early 20th Century, the Silk Road attracted many people of Western countries, such as KozIov of Russia who led an expedition to Inner Mongolia and Tibet, Stein of UK, Pelliot of France, Greenwood and Le Coq of Germany who arrived at Central Asia and Xinjiang for adventure and plundering, and the Otani expedition of Japan reached Tibet.
