Faculty as Mentors in Undergraduate Research,Scholarship, and Creative Work: Motivating and Inhibiting Factors

In this study, we sought to contribute to research about the high-impact practice of undergraduate research from the understudied faculty perspective. We relied on focus group data from faculty members (N = 41) across five institutions to better understand the supporting and inhibiting factors that contribute to faculty members’ engagement in mentoring undergraduate research. We offer implications for research and practice.

在20世纪80年代兴起的高等教育改革运动中，美国大学把培养创新人才确立为大学教育的培养目标。为了实现这一培养目标，美国大学十分重视科研在培养创新人才过程中的意义和作用，并采取多种措施鼓励本科生参加科研活动，鼓励教师指导本科生科研，本科生科研蔚然成风。在加强创新人才培养的今天，美国大学本科生科研的理念与实践对于我国大学具有一定的启发和借鉴意义。     

民办高校教学学术的推进成效与制度反思

教学学术不仅是大学教师个性化的基本素质,更是高校获得持续竞争优势的基础.本文采取混合研究方法,编制民办高校教师教学学术水平问卷,并结合上海市17所民办高校现行制度办法,对其教师教学学术成果与发展水平进行调查分析,较为全面地呈现了民办高校教师教学学术推进的现状.本研究认为民办高校教师的教学学术水平整体较好,但应加强教学学术的学术性与实践性之间的粘合度;民办高校制度文件关注教学学术成果,但应提高对教学学术发展的系统培育及有效落地;民办高校具有推进教学学术的相对优势,但应充分利用教师专业发展活动对教学学术的促进作用.

为应对知识经济对人才提出的更高要求,美国研究型大学近几十年来加强了学生的创新意识和创新能力的培养,其采取的措施主要包括:建立综合化课程体系、倡导探究式学习方式、鼓励本科生参加科研、要求名师登台为本科生上课和广泛应用信息技术等。

介绍了学生通过参加学科竞赛、研制专利发明、发表学术论文、进行科研训练、考取行业证书、参加创新类研究课程、社会实践、课外文体活动等系列项目获取创新学分的方法,取得了一定成效。     

The Role of Institutional Research in a High Profile Study of Undergraduate Research

Armed with a strong toolkit of knowledge and skills, institutional research (IR) professionals often serve as collaborators with campus colleagues who may need assistance with survey design, statistical analysis, program review, and assessment of individual programs or the institution. This paper discusses the role that an IR professional played in a comprehensive and high profile study of undergraduate research. The project was grounded in educational theory and principles of academic assessment. It consumed many long hours, but it also yielded gains in IR visibility, heightened professional relationships with campus colleagues, a second sizable grant, and multiple publications. Implications for the IR practitioner, contributions to the scholarship of assessment, and institutional synergy are discussed.     

基于应用型本科高校创新人才培育与产学研合作教育模式的研究

产学研合作教育模式是应用型高校培养创新人才的重要模式。本文在介绍应用型高校产学研合作教育模式的基础上,详细分析了当前应用型高校创新人才培养和产学研合作教育模式所存在的问题,寻求创新人才培养的途径,为应用型高校深化产学研合作、培养创新人才提供有利的建议。     

The Influences of Faculty on Undergraduate Student Participation in Research and Creative Activities

Using data collected from surveys of college juniors and seniors and faculty members in related academic departments, this study examined whether faculty teaching and research orientations, as well as faculty external funding, had any impact on undergraduate student participation in research and creative activities. The results of the study indicated that faculty research orientation and external funding were indeed positively related to student participation in research activities. However, faculty members’ teaching orientation was not significant. Further analyses indicated that faculty teaching and research orientations had different impacts on a range of research and creative activities by undergraduate students. The findings from this study provide insight on ways of improving college teaching and learning as well as informing the development of institutional academic policies related to faculty and undergraduate education. Shouping Hu is Associate Professor of Higher Education at Florida State University. He received his M.S. degree in Economics and Ph.D. in Higher Education from Indiana University. His research and scholarship focus on college access and success, student engagement, and higher education policy. Kathyrine Scheuch is the Deputy Director of Research and Evaluation in the Division of Community Colleges, Florida Department of Education. She received her Ed.D. in Higher Education from Florida State University. Her research interests include undergraduate research activities and minority student issues. Joy Gaston Gayles is Associate Professor of Higher Education at North Carolina State University. She received her Ph.D. in Higher Education from Ohio State University. Her research interests include the college student experience and its impact on student development and learning.     

汉语言文学本科教育的改革要点研究

随着经济全球化的发展,学生对英语的需求越来越明显,所以在我国掀起了一股股学英语的狂潮。与此相反,汉语言文学在当代大学生群体中的影响力越来越小,学生对汉语言文学的兴趣也越来越小,而如果想改变这种现状,让大学生重新关注汉语言文学,激发他们学习汉语言文学的兴趣,首先应该知道影响汉语言文学本科教育的因素有哪些,然后采取有针对性的措施。为此,文章首先对汉语言文学专业特点进行了阐述;其次,探讨了当前汉语言文学本科教育阶段教学过程中存在的问题;最后提出了几点对汉语言文学本科教育改革的建议。     

教研融合 科研实验室促进本科创新人才培养

本科创新人才培养不仅需要基础知识学习,更需要加强科研素质和综合能力的提升。基于创新人才培养目标,提出本科教学与科学研究相融合的方式,探讨科研实验室对于本科创新人才培养的促进作用。从师资队伍建设、教学资源建设、实验教学体系建设和支持创新实践活动等方面展开研究,并以力学与建筑工程学院教研融合实践活动为例,介绍了实践方法和取得的效果。研究表明,教研融合有利于促进科研实验室在本科创新人才培养中发挥重要作用。针对实践过程中发现的问题,从加强实验室安全管理和实验技术人员队伍建设方面对加强科研实验室开放管理提出了建议。     

设立本科生研究学分与创新人才培养

世界一流大学的成功经验表明，设立本科生研究学分对进一步完善学分制，提高本科教学的质量，加速培养创新人才，增强学校的综合竞争力大有裨益，这是一项有现实意义的，值得深入研究的课题。章围绕这一课题从以下三方面展开阐述：1．学分制中设立本科生研究学分的缘起；2．世界一流大学本科生研究学分个案分析与启示，3．对我国本科生研究学分设产的探索。     

Scholarship and Research in the Graduate Program

In a report entitled Reshaping the Graduate Education of Scientists and Engineers (National Academy of Sciences, 1995), the Committee on Science, Engineering, and Public Policy proposed a modified PhD training model that retains an emphasis on intensive research experiences, while incorporating additional experiences to prepare graduates for an increasingly diverse job market. The National Science Foundation (NSF) subsequently instituted the Integrative Graduate Education and Research Traineeship (IGERT) program to foster interdisciplinary training of doctoral students. Faculty in kinesiology graduate programs are often well positioned to contribute to such interdisciplinary training programs. We highlight an example of such a program, specifically the NSF IGERT program on Musculoskeletal and Neural Adaptations in Form and Function at Arizona State University. Both benefits and challenges of IGERT participation are considered.

收入分配差距不断扩大已经成为当前我国社会关注的焦点问题,而市场经济体制不完善、一些制度设计不够科学合理是导致收入分配差距扩大的重要因素。尽快缩小日益扩大的收入分配差距,要从完善制度入手,消除不合理因素,创造一个公平合理的收入分配新环境。
