The quality of virtual view based on multi-view video (MVD) plus depth format is often evaluated by PSNR or subjectively judged. However, due to synthesizing arbitrary view images, the virtual view images mostly have no reference images and are only assessed using non-reference. Virtual view images synthesized by depth estimation reference software (DERS) and view synthesis reference software (VSRS) often accompanied with blockiness and other distortions on the edge. In addition, matching level for the depth map and the corresponding texture maps of left and right views also affects the quality of the virtual view. This paper compares the edge similarity of the depth and the corresponding texture maps which generate the intermediate virtual view and combined with the virtual view’s blockiness which causing blur to evaluate the quality of the virtual view. Experiment results show that the proposed method can reflect the quality of the virtual view better.  相似文献

Providing a wider movement range of virtual camera is an unsolved problem for state-of-the-art image-based rendering system. In this paper, we present a new image based rendering technology called panoramic mosaics of slit images with depth that can provide large virtual camera motion region for some scenes. By limiting camera motion to a horizontal plane only, a slit image with united depth value is used as the rendering element. The panoramic mosaics of slit images with depth are easy to capture, and the data size is as small as that of panorama. We present here the capturing, construction as well as rendering process of panoramic slit images mosaic with depth. Depth estimation is an active research area with the developing of stereo vision in recent years. It is one of the key technologies to resolve the large data of stereo vision communication. Now depth estimation still has some problems, such as occlusion, fuzzy edge, real-time processing, etc. Many algorithms have been proposed base on software, however the performance of the computer configurations limits the software processing speed. The other resolution is hardware design and the great developments of the digital signal processor (DSP), and application specific integrated circuit (ASIC) and field programmable gate array (FPGA) provide the opportunity of flexible applications. In this work, by analyzing the procedures of depth estimation, the proper algorithms which can be used in hardware design to execute real-time depth estimation are proposed. The different methods of calibration, matching and post-processing are analyzed based on the hardware design requirements. At last some tests for the algorithm have been analyzed. The results show that the algorithms proposed for hardware design can provide credited depth map for further view synthesis and are suitable for hardware design.  相似文献

Recent improvements in three‐dimensional (3D) virtual modeling software allows anatomists to generate high‐resolution, visually appealing, colored, anatomical 3D models from computed tomography (CT) images. In this study, high‐resolution CT images of a cadaver were used to develop clinically relevant anatomic models including facial skull, nasal cavity, septum, turbinates, paranasal sinuses, optic nerve, pituitary gland, carotid artery, cervical vertebrae, atlanto‐axial joint, cervical spinal cord, cervical nerve root, and vertebral artery that can be used to teach clinical trainees (students, residents, and fellows) approaches for trans‐sphenoidal pituitary surgery and cervical spine injection procedure. Volume, surface rendering and a new rendering technique, semi‐auto‐combined, were applied in the study. These models enable visualization, manipulation, and interaction on a computer and can be presented in a stereoscopic 3D virtual environment, which makes users feel as if they are inside the model. This paper presents some techniques for synthesizing novel view for a virtual viewpoint from two given views captured at different viewpoints to achieve both high quality and high efficiency. The whole process consists of three passes. The first pass recovers depth map. We formulate it as pixel labelling and propose a bisection approach to solve it. It is accomplished in log2n(n is the number of depth levels) steps,each of which involves a single graph cut computation. The second pass detects occluded pixels and reasons about their depth. It fits a foreground depth curve and a background depth curve using depth of nearby foreground and background pixels,and then distinguishes foreground and background pixels by minimizing a global energy,which involves only one graph cut computation. The third pass finds for each pixel in the novel view the corresponding pixels in the input views and computes its color. The whole process involves only a small number of graph cut computations,therefore it is efficient. And,visual artifacts in the synthesized view can be removed successfully by correcting depth of the occluded pixels. Experimental results demonstrate that both high quality and high efficiency are achieved by the proposed techniques.  相似文献

The implementation and optimization of the traditional contour generation algorithms are always proposed for the common processor. When processing high resolution images, the performance often exists low efficiency. A new graphics processing unit (GPU)-based algorithm is proposed to get the clear and integrated contour of leaves. Firstly we implement the classic Sobel operator of edge detection in GPU. Then a simple and effective method is designed to remove the fake edge and a heuristic algorithm is used to repair the broken edge. It is proved by the experiments that the results of our algorithm are natural and realistic in terms of morphology and can be good materials for the virtual plant.  相似文献

A new algorithm is proposed for restoring disocclusion regions in depth-image-based rendering (DIBR) warped images. Current solutions include layered depth image (LDI), pre-filtering methods, and post-processing methods. The LDI is complicated, and pre-filtering of depth images causes noticeable geometrical distortions in cases of large baseline warping. This paper presents a depth-aided inpainting method which inherits merits from Criminisi's inpainting algorithm. The proposed method features incorporation of a depth cue into texture estimation. The algorithm efficiently handles depth ambiguity by penalizing larger Lagrange multipliers of flling points closer to the warping position compared with the surrounding existing points. We perform morphological operations on depth images to accelerate the algorithm convergence, and adopt a luma-first strategy to adapt to various color sampling formats. Experiments on test multi-view sequence showed that our method has superiority in depth differentiation and geometrical loyalty in the restoration of warped images. Also, peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) statistics on non-hole regions and whole image comparisons both compare favorably to those obtained by state of the art techniques.  相似文献

Radiology and radiologists are recognized as increasingly valuable resources for the teaching and learning of anatomy. State‐of‐the‐art radiology department workstations with industry‐standard software applications can provide exquisite demonstrations of anatomy, pathology, and more recently, physiology. Similar advances in personal computers and increasingly available software can allow anatomy departments and their students to build their own three‐dimensional virtual models. Appropriate selection of a data‐set, followed by processing and presentation are the key steps in creating virtual models. The construction, presentation, clinical application, and educational potential of postprocessed imaging techniques including multiplanar reformats, minimum intensity projections, segmentation, volume‐rendering, surface‐rendering, fly‐throughs, virtual endoscopy, angiography, and cine‐loops are reviewed using examples created with only a personal computer and freeware software. Although only static images are presented in this article, further material is available online within the electronic version of this article. Through the use of basic and advanced image reconstruction and also paying attention to optimized presentation and integration, anatomy courses can be strengthened with appropriate radiological material. There are several key advantages for the anatomy department, which is equipped with the ability to produce virtual models using radiology images: (1) Opportunities to present anatomy using state‐of‐the‐art technology as an adjunct to current practices, (2) a means to forge an improved relationship with the local radiology department, and (3) the ability to create material locally, which is integrated with the local curriculum avoiding the problem of information overload when using the internet or other commercially available resources. ON THE COVER: Students at the University of Bristol in the UK using virtual microscopy in the histology teaching laboratory . In this issue of ASE, Dr Margaret Gatumu and co‐authors describe how virtual microscopy (VM), alongside traditional light microscopy, is used in histology teaching and learning for medical, dental and veterinary students. Students work in pairs or small groups facilitated by teachers to select, explore and annotate VM images as seen on individual desktop computer screens. A printed handbook guides the students through the slides. Student‐led learning is supplemented by lecture‐demonstrations by a teacher delivered from a podium; the view from the teacher's computer is visible throughout the laboratory on drop‐down projector screens.
