The Stanford Instructional Television Network (SITN), the largest single university provider of live televised graduate level engineering courses in the world, partners with industry to address the issues of competitiveness and job productivity. For over 25 years, SITN has offered engineers, scientists and technical managers a means to extend their education without leaving the workplace. Computer graphics is widely used in several areas of science such as computer science education. The execution of hardware and software computer systems can be skillfully simulated using computer graphics. Such a simulation is very attractive in teaching at a university level. It is a way of visualization where students can see the unseen. In this article, the function of a simple computer is simulated. A simulator ASSEM is developed which is suitable as a teaching tool in computer system courses along with mnemonic and assembly language. A teaching and learning development project is currently under way at Queens-land University of Technology to develop advanced technology videotapes for use with the delivery of structural engineering courses. These tapes consist of integrated computer and laboratory simulations of important concepts, and behaviour of structures and their components for a number of structural engineering subjects. They will be used as part of the regular lectures and thus will not only improve the quality of lectures and learning environment, but also will be able to replace the ever-dwindling laboratory teaching in these subjects. The use of these videotapes, developed using advanced computer graphics, data visualization and video technologies, will enrich the learning process of the current diverse engineering student body. The development of Internet technologies stimulates the increase of online technology-supported education in universities. Online learning based on remote experiments is capable of diminishing the scantiness in practical courses. In this paper, we present online practical courses based on remote experiments (OnPReX). These courses consist of online experiments, interactive graphics and an online tutoring-system organised at the Berlin Institute of Technology (TUB). We developed two online practical courses, one focusing on classical and the other on modern physics, for bachelor and intermediate diploma engineering students. Our online practical courses based on remote experiments took place in two test phases during two semesters. These courses were evaluated and the results were used to improve the courses. Our online practical courses on remote experiments have successfully been integrated as electives at the TUB. 相似文献
