开展社区教育项目建设的几点思考

社区教育在形成全民学习、终身学习的学习社会,促进人的全面发展,建设人力资源强国方面,发挥着越来越大的作用,其影响力和独特功能是其他教育形式不可替代的。近年来,我国社区教育正在深化改革,完善并创新体制机制,扩大功能,丰富内涵,努力推进由传统社区教育向现代社区教育的转变。广大社区教育工作者为此做了大量的基础性的卓有成效的工作。其中,社区教育项目建设就是改革创新的重要举措之一。     

Projects in Undergraduate Engineering Education in America

A survey of engineering educators in the US was conducted to ascertain actual practice regarding the delivery of engineering projects in the curriculum. The survey focused only on project experiences carrying significant academic credit that are free-standing elements of the curriculum; that is, they are not associated with or part of a course. Inquiries covered: the degree to which such activities meet requirements for graduation, accreditation and/or professional licensure; the extent of involvement of off-campus professionals in the conduct of the project, and in its support and its evaluation and assessment; the size and make-up of student teams in such activities, and the preparation and evaluation techniques used for team efforts; and the degree to which faculty members act as advisors or teachers. This paper briefly describes what is meant generally by the project mode of instruction in engineering education in the US, and describes the breadth of pedagogy in the current delivery of engineering projects represented by the survey responses, and by the engineering education literature discussing project education. The paper is intended to provide a basis for the international exchange of ideas on how engineering project education is being presented in various nations. Current trends in US engineering education that affect project education are also highlighted for comparison with those in other countries.

教育质量之内涵:对本科教学工作水平评估后整改的思考

The Core Curriculum and Undergraduate Education: Reflections on an Experiment

This paper describes the implementation of a common core curriculum in undergraduate programs at University College of Southern Queensland (UCSQ) in 1990. A justification for the core structure, and a specific core unit titled “Australia, Asia and the Pacific” is argued in detail. Opposition from Schools within UCSQ which considered the core units took away limited time from specialist and professional studies resulted in a review of the curriculum one year after its introduction. The paper argues that the changes proposed for 1993 by the review are likely to effectively dismantle the core structure, and that the changes proposed to “Australia, Asia and the Pacific” are symptomatic of an inwardness in Australian culture and will marginalise the study of Australia's relations with regional societies at a time when there appears to be general, community‐wide agreement that studies of this kind are an urgent, national priority.

Year-long Undergraduate Research Projects

Abstract

Undergraduate research has become the centerpiece of many institutions of higher education’s efforts to attract and recruit high school graduates. Since 1987, throughout my tenure at Bloomsburg University, I have involved over 20 students in my research. In my experience, there is clear evidence that students of mathematics substantially benefit if they engage in research during their undergraduate studies. Whether the student plans to apply for employment after graduation or continue with graduate studies, the undergraduate research experience has a tremendous effect on the student’s success. In this paper, I will provide some personal insight on my experience in working with undergraduate students. In most cases, my experience has been in working with one student on a long term (one semester or mostly year-long) research problems. I will discuss my approach to identifying students, the type of projects, providing guidance, and finally the challenges that we face in supervising undergraduate research. To exemplify, emphasis will be placed on the status of a recent 1-year research project, which was funded by the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education, and a senior undergraduate student worked on it for one year.     

开放教育法学专业开设法律英语课程的思考

法律英语语言能力是我国高级应用型法律专门人才应当具备的基本能力之一。然而,电大开放教育本科法学专业学员的法律英语语言能力却未尽人意,这与该专业法律英语课程的缺位有关,并在一定程度上阻碍了该专业培养目标的实现。本文在分析法律英语的主要特点后,重点论述了电大开放教育本科法学专业开设法律英语课程的必要性和可行性,并得出结论：开放教育本科法学专业应该开设法律英语课程。
