Fine mapping of multiple interacting quantitative trait loci using combined linkage disequilibrium and linkage information

Quantitative trait loci (QTL) and their additive, dominance and epistatic effects play a critical role in complex trait variation. It is often infeasible to detect multiple interacting QTL due to main effects often being confounded by interaction effects. Positioning interacting QTL within a small region is even more difficult. We present a variance component approach nested in an empirical Bayesian method, which simultaneously takes into account additive, dominance and epistatic effects due to multiple interacting QTL. The covariance structure used in the variance component approach is based on combined linkage disequilibrium and linkage (LDL) information. In a simulation study where there are complex epistatic interactions between QTL, it is possible to simultaneously fine map interacting QTL using the proposed approach. The present method combined with LDL information can efficiently detect QTL and their dominance and epistatic effects, making it possible to simultaneously fine map main and epistatic QTL.

MRN complex is an essential effector of DNA damage repair

Genome stability can be threatened by both endogenous and exogenous agents.Organisms have evolved numerous mechanisms to repair DNA damage,including homologous recombination(HR)and non-homologous end joining(NHEJ).Among the factors associated with DNA repair,the MRE11-RAD50-NBS1(MRN)complex(MRE11-RAD50-XRS2 in Saccharomyces cerevisiae)plays important roles not only in DNA damage recognition and signaling but also in subsequent HR or NHEJ repair.Upon detecting DNA damage,the MRN complex activates signaling molecules,such as the protein kinase ataxia-telangiectasia mutated(ATM),to trigger a broad DNA damage response,including cell cycle arrest.The nuclease activity of the MRN complex is responsible for DNA end resection,which guides DNA repair to HR in the presence of sister chromatids.The MRN complex is also involved in NHEJ,and has a species-specific role in hairpin repair.This review focuses on the structure of the MRN complex and its function in DNA damage repair.

Dissolved oxygen sensor based on sol-gel matrix doped with tris(2,2’-bipyridine)ruthenium dichloride

To establish a immobilization method of oxygen sensitive dye, a dissolved oxygen sensor based on a sol-gel matrix doped with ruthenium complex ([Ru(bpy)3]2+) as the oxygen-sensitive material is reported. The results indicate that the I0 /I100 value of the [Ru(bpy)3]2+-doped in tetraethylorthosilane (TEOS) composite films are estimated to be 10.6, where I0 and I100 correspond to the detected fluorescence intensities in pure nitrogen saturated water and pure oxygen saturated water, respectively. Also, the Stern-Volmer plot shows a very good linearity at low dissolved oxygen concentrations. The response time of the composite films is 5 s upon switching from nitrogen saturated water to oxygen saturated water and 10 s from oxygen saturated water to nitrogen saturated water. The dissolved oxygen sensors based on the ruthenium complex/TEOS composite films exhibit greater sensitivity, stability and faster response time as compared to the existing ones. Furthermore, the thin films possess greatly minimized dye leaching effect.     

Machining Complex Oriented Compensation System for Generalized Kinematic Errors

This paper puts forward a machining complex oriented compensation strategy for the generalized kinematic errors(GKEs) According to this strategy,the error map,which is constructed by using the off-line measuring information of the machined workpiece,is not oriented for the machine tool but for the machining complex to compensate the GKEs.The error map is derived by theproposed predictive learning control algorithm(PLCA),which is supported by the information model of machining complex,Experimental results show that the machining complex complex oriented GKEs compensation strategy and the information model based PLCA is effective.     

Complex Dynamics Caused by Torus Bifurcation in Power Systems

Torus bifurcation is a relatively complicated bifurcation caused by a pair of complex conjugate Floquet multipliers coming out of unit circle on the Poincare section. A three-bus system is employed to reveal the relationship between torus bifurcation and some complex dynamics. Based on theoretical analysis and simulation studies, it is found that torus bifurcation is a typical route to chaos in power system. Some complex dynamics usually occur after a torus bifurcation, such as self-organization, deep bifurcations, exquisite structure, coexistence of chaos and divergence. It is also found that chaos has close relationship with various instability scenarios of power systems. Studies of this paper are helpful to understand the mechanism of torus bifurcation in power system and relationship of chaos and power system instabilities.     

A Method of Calculating the 3D coordinates on a Micro Object in a Virtual Micro—Operation System

A simple method for calculating the 3D coordinates of points on a moro object in a multi-camera system is proposed.It simplifies the algorithms used in traditional computer vision system by eliminating the calculation of the CCD( charge coupled device) camera parameters and the relative position between cameras,and using solid geometry in the calculation procedres instead of the calculation of the complex matrixes,The algorithm was used in the research of generating a virtual magnified 3D image of a micro object to be operated in a micro operation system,and the satisfactory results were obtained.The application in a virtual tele-operation system for a dexterous mechanical gripper is under test.
