In 1964, a special committee — the Schools Council for Curriculum and Examinations — was set up to carry out the necessary planning in preparation for the raising of the school-leaving age to 16, which was originally scheduled for the end of the sixties but for financial reasons had been put off to the fall of 1972. (116) From the first, the council concentrated on the effects that the desired reorganization of the secondary system would have on the curriculum. Its proposals in this regard were based on the results and recommendations of the Newsom Report, but it also developed its own research projects to obtain additional data and information for the contemplated reforms. 相似文献

This article summarises the issues which have arisen in one grant‐maintained school as it attempts to respond to the needs of its highly supportive community. Saved from closure by opting out, Bankfield School is managed by a governing body for whom community education is a fundamental principle, and a Head and staff with a strong commitment to local needs. Problems might arise in the future from pressure for admission for out‐of‐area pupils, from tensions consequent upon the joint use and funding of facilities used by the community, and from possible interference in curriculum management by governors. The issue of accountability, and the achievement of complementary, and not competing, demands upon the school also require some special management awareness. Because the precepts of effective community education are recognised it would seem that the balance between school and community is being achieved to the mutual benefit of both. 相似文献

The Department of Education in the Philippines has undertaken initiatives to restructure the curriculum for secondary schools as part of its ongoing effort to improve the quality of learning. After a decade of study, the Department produced a new basic education curriculum, as the 2002 Basic Education Curriculum. All public schools in the country were mandated to implement the curriculum at the start of 2002–2003 school year. Makabayan (nationalistic or patriotic) is one of the learning areas in the Basic Education Curriculum along with English, Filipino, Science and Mathematics. Makabayan from First to Fourth Year is designed to develop the personal, social and work special skills of learners especially their interpersonal skills, empathy with other cultures, vocational efficiency, problem-solving, and decision-making in daily life, that is, to develop socio-cultural and politico-economic literacy. This paper describes the context and content of the Makabayan curriculum and the extent to which it develops in learners a sense of citizenship, that is, a healthy personal and national self-concept. To delimit scope, this paper focuses on the study of geography only as one of the components of Araling Panlipunan (Social Studies) in the secondary school Makabayan Curriculum, using the results of a study of third year high school students' learning of geographic knowledge and skills as bases of empirical data. AbstractSocial, personal and environmental achievement related influences in the lives of 1070 Ss, enrolled In a state hospital school system and a public school system, were studied in an attempt to Improve the curricula available to these and similar young people. A data-gathering instrument was created and used to gather information relative to 73 preselected variables. The data were studied to Identify relationships between these variables and educational retardation, and to determine differences between educationally and noneducationally retarded public school and hospital pupils in terms of variables found to be commonly related to preselected achievement criteria. Although many of the variables found to be significantly related (5% level) to the achievement of educationally retarded public school youth were also found to be so related to the achievement of noneducationally retarded youth, many significant differences between the variable measures were found. Similar results were obtained when public school pupils were compared with hospitalizd pupils. Finally, patterns of difference were Identified when all data were pooled. Experimental curriculum development was based upon this study. 相似文献
