Normative and Technological Problems of Bibliographic Control over Information Resources on Social Sciences and Humanities

This paper describes the goals, tasks, and main areas of bibliographic control over documents that enter the databases of the Institute of Scientific Information on Social Sciences (INION). It analyzes the features of how bibliographic records of publications on social sciences and humanities (scientific, abstract-analytical, information, scientific-methodical, reference and bibliographic records) are formed. The functions of the software technological complex for automated analysis of the names of persons who are responsible for various types of publications are disclosed. The paper considers the potential of modern software and technological tools for bibliographic analysis and control of bibliographic records, references and citations, including bibliographic managers, scientific work organizers, knowledge managers, and personal information managers.     

Research Issues in Systems Implementation, Risks and Tradeoffs

This article identifies open research issues in the management of electronic records in complex systems over time, with an emphasis on system development and implementation. The author proposes that it is necessary for archivists to address the issues at three levels: the organizational/professional level, the technological infrastructure level, and the system- and function-specific level. The paper discusses the technological factors which influence archivists' ability to manage electronic records currently being created, and goes on to recommend that archivists broaden their technological knowledge base, work toward influencing others in their organizations to gain buy-in, and develop models and success stories for positively influencing the development of electronic systems.     

Linking approval plans and automated library acquisitions systems

This paper will describe the process whereby an approval vendor provides machine-readable records corresponding to books sent to a library automatically and on approval, for loading into the library's automated acquisitions system.     

Towards Automated Record Keeping, Interfaces for the Capture of Records of Business Processes

In June 1996, the National Archives of Canada issued its Guideline on the Management of Electronic Records in the Electronic Work Environment to all Canadian federal government institutions. Part of the Guideline contained a vision of automated record keeping in which records would be captured automatically based on the incorporation of record keeping rules in the design of automated work processes. As an illustration of this concept, the National Archives developed a demonstration prototype based on a project management work process situated within one of the operational activities of the department. This paper provides an overview of the prototype and an outline of both the lessons learned and the outstanding questions that have emerged concerning the feasibility of building an electronic work environment reflecting automated record keeping.

Mechanization of library procedures in the medium-sized medical library. 8. Computer applications in hospital departmental libraries

To test the hypothesis that a standard library system could be designed for hospital departmental libraries, a system was developed and partially tested for four departmental libraries in the Washington University School of Medicine and Associated Hospitals. The system from determination of needs through design and evaluation, is described. The system was limited by specific constraints to control of the monograph collection. Products of control include catalog cards, accessions list, new book list, location list, fund list, missing book list, and discard book list. Sample data form and pages from a procedure manual are given, and conversion from a manual to an automated system is outlined.The question of standardization of library records and procedures is discussed, with indications of the way in which modular design, as utilized in this system, could contribute to greater flexibility in design of future systems.Reference is made to anticipating needs for organizing departmental libraries in developing regional medical library programs and to exploring the role of the departmental library in a medical library network.     

Making Periodical Holdings Available to the Public

Library users of periodicals need to know what parts of a title a library has, but maklng this information available to the public is a complex task in an automated environment. The author describes types of holdings statements and discusses practical steps involved in attaching holdings information to bibliographic records and keeping such records up to date.     

Cortes's notary: The symbolic power of records

This article explores the relationship between records and various expressions of political and social power. Records are often made and used for explicit, instrumental purposes, designed to put into effect the plans and desires of those with the upper hand in certain relationships. They may also be used to enhance subtler forms of symbolic, emotional, and psychological power. Drawing on a selection of historical examples, the essay argues that record making itself can sometimes be as potent as any particular records resulting from that process. The essay concludes with some speculations on how these powers inherent in records may be changing in the context of current technological developments.     

Integrating records management into information resources management in U.S. government agencies

This article presents several key issues facing federal agencies with regards to electronic records management practices. The article identifies selected management, technology, implementation, and definitional barriers that agencies encounter when considering how to create and maintain an electronic records management process. A key question for federal agency technology managers is: If an enterprise creates and manages virtually all of its information in an automated information technology systems environment, does it make any sense to manage its records in a manual environment? Based on research conducted by the author, the article reviews various federal agency electronic records management processes and the implications for those practices.     

我国医疗档案管理研究综述

医疗档案管理对我国医疗事业的发展有举足轻重的作用。本文基于1992-2011年CNKI核心期刊文章并以"医疗档案管理"为检索词对其进行标题式检索,之后对检索出的文献进行内容分析,归结出20年来我国医疗档案管理研究主要集中在医疗设备档案管理、医疗事故技术鉴定档案管理、农村合作医疗档案管理、信息技术与医疗档案管理、病历档案管理、医疗机构改革后档案管理和计划生育医疗档案管理七个方面,并对这些研究的相关观点进行了较全面的阐述。同时本文提出了医疗档案管理的研究不足。

QuickDOC: an interlibrary loan department in a microcomputer

Interlibrary loan (ILL) is a critical service in most libraries and one that may consume much staff time. QuickDOC, a software program written by a medical librarian, has been designed to expedite and organize the process of requesting loans, keeping records, and preparing reports on ILL activity. The software communicates with DOCLINE, the automated ILL and referral system of the National Library of Medicine (NLM), and simplifies the management of all borrowing and lending, regardless of how requests are transmitted. QuickDOC's creator is very responsive to suggestions from users and continues to enhance the capabilities of this excellent software package.     

What You See May Not Be What You Get:

Current issues of nearly 300 social science and humanities periodicals received by a large academic library were compared with their records in the OCLC database. Over 18% of the records contained errors, indicating that the bibliographic information had not been kept up to date as there were changes in the issues over time. The search for out of date data was confined primarily to the place of publication, publisher and editor areas of the record. The study confirmed that information appearing in automated databases is not necessarily more correct than that found in paper files just because it is in machine-readable form.

Technological trends in Swedish medical libraries

Medical libraries in Sweden are digitised to a large extent, technically advanced and developing rapidly. This paper investigates technological trends among Swedish medical libraries in the near and distant future and their application within different areas of library activities. The authors also present a roadmap to increase technological developments within medical libraries in Sweden. Current technological trends include digital collaboration tools, mobile technologies and visualisation. Artificial intelligence, big data and smart technologies are upcoming trends. Technologies are applied within all areas of library activities, but preconditions for academic and hospital libraries differ. To remain a relevant provider of information services, libraries must be able to monitor, test and adopt new technologies.     

中医病案数据库元数据方案的设计

目的：设计一套适用于中医病案数据库的元数据方案,以满足中医病案数据库保存和分析的需要。方法：经过资源分析、文献及网络调研、用户调查后,采用 MARC 元数据设计了中医病案数据库元数据方案。结果：中医病案数据库元数据方案由17个字段组成,分为9个部分。结论：使用 MARC 作为中医病案数据库的元数据标准,初步达到了组织和描述中医病案资源的目的,但在元数据标准的选择、著录的标准化方面仍需讨论。
