大学去行政化路还有多远

我国大学行政化的形成因素有历史、文化、制度和社会的根源.但是,大学去行政化符合大学的逻辑,是历史的必然.经济体制改革后,国家的政治、经济、社会、文化领域都发生巨大的改变,出现了有利于大学去行政化的积极因素,大学去行政化的动力也初步形成;大学去行政化的制度装置已经出现,但还不够完善,还不能保障去行政化的有效实施.     

自主招生任重道远

随着社会主义市场经济体制的确立和教育改革的不断深入,统一招生考试制度逐渐显现出一些弊端,人们也在不断地进行改革和探索,力求使高校招生考试制度能够发挥更大的功效。教育部提出的2003年在22所高校试点自主招生的方案,无疑是高校招生录取制度改革的重大突破,也成为人们关心

高校学科德育刍议

学科德育是指教师在学科教学的过程中有意识地对学生进行的道德教育。高校实施学科德育有其学理、政策和现实依据。实施学科德育应加强学科德育的组织领导、做好学科德育的宣传和培训工作、探索学科德育的考核激励机制、推进通识教育、加强专业伦理和职业道德教育、加强师德建设。     

Asia's Four Little Tigers: A comparison of the role of education in their development

The economic success of some of the countries within the East Asian region has generated a range of studies which have attempted to identify the sources of that growth. One strand within these analyses has focused on the critical role of schooling in the accumulation of human capital. This paper examines the role which education has played in the rapid development of the four 'Asian Tigers'; namely: Hong Kong, Taiwan, South Korea and Singapore. It is argued that whilst patterns of educational provision displayed some common features there were also significant differences in other areas such as the role of the state, sources of educational funding, the role of technical education and of the school curriculum.     

The liberal arts college and adult continuing education: A rationale

Discussion concentrates on feasibility of private liberal arts college involvement with adult and continuing education. Evidence of need is provided by national and local surveys. Basic model is that developed by Saint Mary's College, Winona, Minnesota, which sponsors an Employee Learning Program with support from the Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education. Experiences of the exploratory period indicate positive support from college administration and faculty, increasing response to course offerings (life-coping skills and personal enrichment), cautious involvement by business and industry, and meager interest from organized labor. The program continues to define the model in its second year of operation.     

Effects of a college access program for youth underrepresented in higher education: A randomized experiment

This article describes EXCEL, a program that encourages youth underrepresented in higher education to enroll in higher education, specifically at the sponsoring university. Eighty-three eighth grade students with GPA of B and above and standardized test scores at grade level or above were randomly assigned to the program or to a control group. The program guaranteed a scholarship to the sponsoring university and provided enrichment activities throughout high school. Program students were more likely to enroll at the sponsoring university than were control students. However, program and control students enrolled in higher education at rates that did not differ significantly. No differences were detected in self-esteem or high school GPA. Program students desired more education than control students. The results suggest that scholarship incentive and support programs that target average to above average achieving students in the eighth grade may not raise the overall number of aspiring minority youth attending college, but may be useful to specific universities to raise their minority enrollment.
